Whoa! We've put quite a bit of time into Modern Warfare 2's online multiplayer offerings, but we've yet to unlock a perk that lets you rapid fire grenades, or jump 80 feet into the air without succumbing to death upon landing. However, the soldiers seen in the video after the jump seem to be doing just that. Is it, like, a prestige perk, or something?
Well, it couldn't possibly be because they're playing on a dedicated server, where such suspensions of the laws of nature are allowed. See, those don't exist. Sure, the video's description says that hackers have enabled these superhuman abilities on "a whole new wave of servers," but we all know that most of those people are total liars anyways.

A Duke Nukem mod? I'm sure that'll take Forever to get out.

I totally called this while the rest of you were crapping your pants about not getting dedicated servers.

Cause while PC Gamers accept their hobby and understand where they are in life... console gamers are just insecure jerks who have to spray themselves down with Hugo Boss cologne before grabbing a controller and reassuring themselves every 5 minutes that they're not just a bunch of losers playing some silly video game on a friday night and not in a club getting grinded on by a bunch of 13 year olds in some lame all-ages party.
Just kidding. :P

Looks fun. Reminds me of hacking Halo 2 on a modded Xbox. I loved turning the gravity low and jumping on top of the maps, firing a dozen rockets out of a shotgun, that sort of thing. It caused a lot of framerate lag, but there wasn't many things better than surprising an opponent with a rocket out of a shotgun.

There are few things as satisfying as killing cheating motherfuckers without doing so yourself. I remember one match a friend and me played where one guy had a speed/invisibility hack. We spent the whole match just hunting his ass down and ruining his fun. Vindication!

I love it when servers ditch the "Realistic Gaming" and just go Bat-shit crazy with the game.
That shit is pure fun.

I'd love the fact that people have already created dedicated servers if it didn't also come with the whole "hackers and cheaters" thing too.

Those hackers will be present on the IW servers as well, they just will take forever to get banned. I also think most are misunderstanding what this is about. This isn't about hacking, but changing gravity and other things like you could on any CS server.

Lol, also, a crack was just released to allow people to play multiplayer through Steam. Man, Infinity Ward FUCKED up. Or was it Activision? Meh, I still like IW a little, so let's go with the latter.

I thought the PC community was boycotting this, so I suppose no one will even be using these servers.

Torrent + 3rd party mod =/= adandonning boycott
In fact, this is the strategy I was espousing for all who were mad about it. Everyone is quick to point out not buying a product makes no difference since you are such a small drop in a large bucket, and I agree. But the one time I do know a big company listened to the complaining consumers was when everyone pirated Spore, choosing the more-functional illegal version, and EA could actually count the lost sales.
In this disturbing trend of companies not caring about what customers want, voting with your bittorrent client may be the only way some big companies will hear you.

Oh I'm sure they'll hear us.
Then go right ahead and make MW3 console only.

I really don't see a reason why you would resort to piracy just to boycott a game. If you don't like the decisions that a company made with regards to its product, then the best and most effective means of slapping them in the face is to ignore their product completely and move onto something else.
The fact that you're even resorting to piracy does two things:
1. Pirating the game only enforces the company's stubbornness because it feeds straight into the "All PC gamers are pirates" bullshit that they've been spitting.
2. That you're playing a pirated game that you're angry about and are supposed to be "boycotting" speaks a lot about your maturity as a person and your complete disregard to the responsibility that you shoulder.
I'm (currently) primarily a console (PS3) gamer and I spite Activision/Infinity Ward by not purchasing nor pirating Modern Warfare 2. It's really easy to do because there are BETTER things out there like the upcoming Bad Company 2 and M.A.G.

I'm not a PC gamer, and I'm making this statement based solely on what history has shown us. Unfortunately, a large percentage of consumers do little research when buying anything (explaining the huge amount of Wii shovelware, the persistence of As Seen On TV products, etc.), and thus it is becomingly increasingly hard to "vote with your wallet" because the informed are drowned out by the clueless (this happens in politics, too, but that's beside the point). PC gamers are in a unique position though, because of their ability to "steal" the product in a way that lets the companies know just how many copies got away (all torrent trackers index the total number of times a file is downloaded, etc.).
While some people claim that increased piracy will lead to a decrease in the number of PC games released, I think that the potential revenue is too great a lure for publishers, especially in the face of the quantifiable loss due to targeted piracy. You cannot argue that the Spore debacle wasn't the death knell for SecuROM, as EA saw millions of "lost" sales in the face of their poor decisions. I believe this quantifiable loss is felt much more strongly by the likes of "Bottom-Line" Bobby Kotick, and he might actually weigh the lost sales revenue vs. the gained forced-DLC revenue when planning the next game.
I don't think there is anything immature about finding a better way to tell a company that you'd love to play their game if they weren't trying to dictate how you play it or force you to pay for something that has been standardly free for all competing games. If you care about gaming as one of your hobbies, I don't think it's at all ridiculous to try to improve its future direction, and if everyone who agrees with you works similarly, progress can indeed be made. As Infinity Ward was eager to point out to me following many a death in COD4, all it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to stand by and do nothing.
So if you'd feel bad about playing a stolen game, perhaps you could just download it and then delete it, to let them know they might have had you as a customer if not for their greed.

It just means you really want to play the game and you're not really all that committed to doing the right thing for the PC community and just perpetuating why the PC game market is going down the tubes. Pay for it or not, you're fucking up the PC gaming community 1 torrent at a time.

Surprisingly, a few of my friends who do pirate 99% of everything they buy (not just games) cause they're super freaking cheap bastards still went out a bought legit PC copies of MW2.
Looks like a lot of people just couldn't resist the hype.
