Mad Catz offers alternative to Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter

Following the release of Microsoft's improved Wireless N Networking Adapter for Xbox 360, Mad Catz has announced its own wireless adapter, which improves upon Microsoft's device in a couple of ways. First, the adapter, essentially an Ethernet bridge, works with the PS3, allowing for the use of the 802.11n standard with Sony's console.

Second, and most importantly, the Mad Catz adapter improves upon the most reviled feature of the Microsoft model: the price. At $79.99 (£49.99/€59.99 in the UK and Europe), the Mad Catz Wireless-N Gaming Adapter is no impulse buy, but it's exactly twenty dollars better than Microsoft's version. Mad Catz told Joystiq that its device is currently shipping to North American and European retailers and will be available in the company's online store this week.

I just went thru a lengthy re-wiring process just so I could use a wired connection...fuck that...besides, as someone else pointed out, they suck at making controllers so I'm iffy as to how good this adapter is

Now MS will block the ethernet port and sell an official USB-ethernet adapter for the same price of the new wireless adapter, so no third party products will prevail.
If you want to use this adapter, you still can, but you'll have to purchase the official USB-ethernet one too.

BTW, when will people learn that it's really easy to bridge any router, even that extra one you have laying around?

The official one has two antennas. DOUBLE THE ANTENNAS!

I think this would actually be useful if we can connect both the PS3, 360 and Wii at the same time for Wireless N advantage. Would be awesome if it were dual band too!

MS will not block this because they just see a cable. MS will not block it because you've been able to do this over the whole life of the Xbox. I've used a Linksys one for over 3 years.

Listen to Aguiluz. Get a DD-WRT enabled router. Been playing on Live lag free for months because of it.

well... it's still overpriced but at least its a decent amount cheaper than the evil Microsoft version!

The wireless standard. A / B / G / N. Google them. G has been the household standard for a few years, N is the replacement of G, which will be replaced in a couple years again. Most of your devices are probably G.

Is it USB powered? The last thing I need it another wall wart on my TV power strip. (Acutally I don't have any place to put it)

It will work on wii too... Wiith the USB Wired Adapter plus this adapter =P

I dunno, I'm perfectly happy with the built-in wireless 802.11b on my PS3 (despite never using it because I have a switch less than a foot from the system anyway).

This is still better than Microsoft's expensive ass solution and it reminds me of the great Xbox ethernet bridge from a while back. That thing was awesome. Of course, it IS Mad Katz, so who knows how well it will work.
