At the Montreal Games Summit, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada announced that Square is working with
Eidos Montreal, part of the newly absorbed Eidos, on a new game. The studio is also working on
Thief 4 (or ... "
Thi4f") and
Deus Ex 3. Wada said that the new game "would be the first collaboration between Square Enix and Montreal," in addition to being the first work done by Eidos in tandem with its
Square Enix overlords.
Wada framed the development as part of Square Enix's effort to think more globally. What he didn't talk about was what the game is, be it new IP or another sequel. Presumably, it's the first of many such collaborations, since Square Enix is unlikely to let its subsidiary work totally autonomously.

Oh, man, there's that (x) again.
Oh, and btw, Thief 4 is going to be awesome. I can tell.

Maybe Square Enix will get Eidos to do Fortress, the FFXII sequel action game that hit a rut when they fired the Swedish developers. It would fit with Eidos being accustomed to action titles.

As long as they get the stiff-ass Eidos models (see Lara Croft, Agent 43), I'll be content. I'm interested to see what they have cookin'.
Also, it should be D3us 3x.

Toasty Toaster Man @ Nov 16th 2009 7:20PM
Does Lara Croft really need another belt?
uncle jesse @ Nov 16th 2009 7:28PM
All I can do is pray that the new Thief and Deus Ex games turn out to be as good as the originals...
Phix @ Nov 16th 2009 7:36PM
Sorry to burst your bubble but they've already said that Deus Ex 3 is going to be more like a Gears of War style game. 3rd person with cover mechanic shooter focus sorta dealio.
Yeah, that's right. Deus Ex 2 will be more faithful to the original than Deus Ex 3.
(shudder)
Discotheque @ Nov 16th 2009 7:36PM
Fat chance. But we could always hope.
Also I'm waiting on another Hitman.
Phix @ Nov 16th 2009 7:40PM
@Discotheque
Wait, what? You HOPE they make a GoW-clone?
...did you even play the first Deus Ex?
uncle jesse @ Nov 16th 2009 7:44PM
@Phix:
I think he means that he hopes they are as good as the originals, just like I do.
"Hope is a dangerous thing. Hope can drive a man insane."
Discotheque @ Nov 16th 2009 8:24PM
Yes, Deus Ex is one of my favorite games of all time.
I meant "I hope they are as good as the originals" which is too high a bar set for these games. Judging by the very little details I can't fully criticize the sequel though. But regenerating health is pretty lame in my opinion.
rowd149 @ Nov 16th 2009 7:30PM
I'm gonna take this chance to express me support for Le SqueNix (and calling it such).

Wow, I'm retarded. I just realized you're replying to uncle jesse and not me.
damn you joystiq commenting system...

"damn you joystiq commenting system... "
Gotta love when your reply about the comment system being messed up gets messed up itself.
It's almost as if the comment system is trying to give us a message. "Fix me... fix me... FIX MEEEEEEEEE!"

Eidos Montreal didnt do Lara Croft....i work in the same building and they had the open house yesterday (couldnt go) but these guys have the entire 6th floor of the building to themselves. They got a sweet gig going on.
shreck @ Nov 16th 2009 8:51PM
Driving Miss Daisy: The JRPG.
Lurkero @ Nov 16th 2009 9:08PM
Forget Eidos, Square should have bought Rocksteady. Batman AA was the best game that Eidos published in years.
rickjamess04 @ Nov 16th 2009 11:01PM
Is it me, or does anyone else think that Tomb Raider and Uncharted should do a crossover video game?
jondastunna84 @ Nov 17th 2009 12:34AM
yea mang hey should do a Final Batman Fantasy: Cloud visits Gotham city
Pifalcao @ Nov 17th 2009 1:58AM
I was at Mr. Wada's presentation today. It was a little bit uncomfortable how at the beginning he was just apologizing for not understanding video games too much. But hey, Squenidos!
SewerShark @ Nov 17th 2009 7:43AM
