Aside from the boss fights and a few funny bits like playing with the cat and saving the game on the toilet, this game has no redeeming features whatsoever. I know the comments section isn't the place to mindlessly gripe, and I don't mind if you downvote this, but I was just that severely disappointed by this game. Shallow gameplay, absolutely execrable level design, padded out by even worse free-roaming segments and minigames.

Don't listen to that guy. NMH is one the very few Hardcore games on the Wii. The story is simple, the gameplay is mindlessly fun (with lots of blood), the bosses and characters unique, and the only thing that really sucked for some folks are the side jobs you have to do to get to the next stage and the driving controls.
If you've got a Wii get this game and it's sequel coming out in January. The Wii really needs more Hardcore games.

If you can appreciate it, graphic design-wise, it (And other GHM games) kicks the shit out of most games.

Well, the reason why No More Heroes was good for me may be the reason it wasn't for some (which is also the same reason why I liked Assassin's Creed), but basically I just stick to the main game, I avoid sidequests as much as possible.
Why? I'm not really sure... when I was a kid a used to have a blast getting them done when I played Zelda or Final Fantasy, but now I just find them boring and pointless. Extra artwork? I can find it on google. Better weapons? Don't need 'em, I can beat everyone in the game with what I have. I realized I'm not a completionist, and since most sidequests don't have plots as nearly as interesting as the main game (or an episode of Pokémon for that matter), I skip them altogether (that's not to mention sidequests that don't even have plot, like in NMH).
So yeah, No More Heroes has it's faults, the open world sucks balls, but it's not like it has any extra stuff really worth visiting. If you stick just to the main game you'll have a blast! Combat while repetitive is REALLY fun, the wiimote motions are satisfying, this game's story is hilarious and really interesting, great dialogue, and the jobs where you get money are somewhat fun and a welcome change of pace.
All in all, I think this game is pretty good, I had a blast playing through it :)
And sorry if I was confusing, english is not my first language :)

It's really quite over rated, in my opinion. Don't go in expecting a game with the polish of something like Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden.
The combat system is incredibly shallow, the game is fairly repetitive (and this is coming from a person who thinks Tokyo Beat Down has been the best game on the DS so far this year), the side quests where you earn money were a game killer for me. The open world hub is completely terrible, too.

It's unfortunate, because as you're playing it, you can see that the game is just bursting with potential...it's not that it really feels unpolished so much as it feels unfinished. Like they had a bunch of really cool pieces and ideas, but they couldn't figure out how to bring them together harmoniously, you know?
My hope is that since Suda has been working with Shinji Mikami lately, he's learned a few tricks from him, in particular with regards to the combat system.
The combat system was only at all enjoyable due to the Wiimote actions you preformed. Using a regular controller is pretty much going to expose how poor it really is, I suspect.

That said, I'm actually kind of looking forward to NMH2. Like I said, I'm hoping that Suda has learned some things from working with Mikami, the jobs have been replaced with much quicker 8-bit style games and the screens suggest that the game really is head and shoulders beyond the original. Still not sure about that terrible open world, though...it really needs to be just a hub world.

NMH is akin to a hot date who periodically recites latin for hours at a time or randomly stabs you with a nail file. You're having a good time, you're bored, you're in pain, you're looking forward to some sort of climax that you're not even sure exists, but you have no real option but to stick it out and see how it goes.

On the up side, you won't be disappointed. Great characters, story, humor, violence... the game had faults, but those could easily be addressed in a port or sequel.

I never got why this game was getting so much praise, I honestly hated it. Terrible controls, graphics and a half assed driving section with some waggles for killing people.

Thank God! regarding your first paragraph mostly, Im glad there actually is people out there that dont need hundreds of crappy quests/challenges to like a game. I mean, all it needs in some substance in its main story and that does it, for me at least.

I know I'll get downvoted here but I have to agree with Abob: NMH is the most overrated game of 2008 - which puts it high in the running for most overrated game of all time.

While I do have to say that I can see where the appeal comes from: at the time of release it was the only game on the Wii with blood, cursing and adolescent innuendo and that got it very far. However, gameplay wise, it's very boring and tedious: lawnmowing and gas-pumping minigames. The boss battles (a few of which were actually good) and levels are raved about because every moment of gameplay in between was mind-numbingly boring.

Let me make it clear, I don't mind that people like this game, just like I don't mind when people like bad movies, but I do have a problem with people trying to convince anyone that this was a well made game.
I myself thoroughly enjoyed the Aeon Flux movie recently but I'm not about to try to convince anybody it was actually good.

This game was good for the wii market but it's going to get laughed off the ps360 consoles.

This is one of the 4 games I have for the Wii. I played it a bit, but was lured away by Fallout 3 for a year (roughly). Now I've got Dragon Age, but maybe if I need a break in between every NPC's life story, I'll pick it up again.

...this isn't even being posted in the "Nintendo" section, it's cross-posted to the "PS3" and "360" sections.

I just found it amazing that you harbor a grudge at being "laughed at" by anonymous people on the internet from half a year ago - enough so to preemptively gloat about it, as if people are going to check their datebooks and say "by Jove, he's right! On June 3rd, 2009, at approximately 2pm, I laughed at somebody on a gaming blog about a Wii game! Where should I send flowers to apologize?!"

Then again, that's just me. I can barely remember what I said last week, let alone what someone said to me during e3 half a year ago.

Keep shining on, you wacky funster!

A "bad girl" is putting it lightly. If you played the game you'd know she loads a huge batting cage full of gimps to smack over the face with a bat. I'd say she's more "bat-shit crazy." Plus she was the #2 ranked assassin, so yeah she's tough.

YAY! I always felt this game would be a little more at home on the 360 than any other system. It was great on the Wii and the controls were done surprisingly well, but I think I'd much rather prefer a more standard control route.

If it is a remake, I hope it adds a little more playability in regards to driving/mini-games than the original.

Whatever, as if the wanking motion wasn't a gimmick.

And no, I'm not a Brit.

Besides, I tried it at my friends house, and it was very fun, and very little of that fun involved the Wii as an exclusive platform. Many people have been wanting this to happen, and it's awesome that it's happening. Still kinda funny that 360 and PS3 fans are getting excited about a *Wii* port. Lawls.

a few random excited posts dont count for everyone. I'm stil waiting to see what all the fuss is about, I've still yet to see more than just a couple of games worth wasting the money on a wii over. If they made these game to not use any of the motion controller functions of either the PS3 or 360 then the waggle wand method looses yet another round to traditional control methods. If it comes out compatible with the PS3 mocontroller then it had better be more enjoyable.

No, the satisfying feeling of slashing your enemy's head off with a quick wrist movement. They could try to do it with the sixaxis or natal, but it wouldn't be the same. Half decent graphics and decent resolutions are welcome improvements though.

Yeah, there will be a certain satisfaction lost with the killing blows. Button presses would feel too sterile. Maybe they'll use analogue QTEs?

Actually, the Sixaxis is perfect for that kind of movement (swiping). I'd go so far as to say it's the only kind of movement it is good for. The problem with the Sixaxis is that it sucks for really precise movement, but when it comes to quick movements in a single direction, then it truly is awesome (see PixelJunk Eden and Rag Doll Kung Fu, for example).

So yeah, I think your "complaint" is a little bit unfounded.
