Well if that isn't a come see what you're missing, I don't know what is.

Microsoft have been working hard to make silver members feel like crap whilst providing gold members with some relatively insubstantial bonuses, the new update not withstanding (if that makes sense).

I bit the £40 bullet a while back after being fed up of feeling like an invalid for only having a silver account and despite not using Live that much, I feel thoroughly satisfied that I'm not a proper Live member and part of the lucky few... wait, many, who benefit from all the random stuff silver members miss out on. Well done microsoft you conned me out of my money by making me feel like a loser.

No one conned you out of anything....if you didnt want it you couldve continued to say no. and if you cant afford 40 euro....maybe you shouldnt be gaming at all, perhaps you should start saving your money for more important things....

My point is that by continuing to say 'no' and not fork out for a gold subscription you are missing out on a lot of features of live (aside from online gaming bit).

I'm sure that Microsoft would freely admit that they are actively trying to get people on silver memberships to upgrade to gold by giving them more reasons to not just stay as a silver member.

In a sense the more features they release the better value a gold membership becomes, unless they increase the price of a gold account.

It's not that I can't afford a gold subscription, more that if I don't have to pay £40 for something I'd prefer not to. And when has not having much money meant that you shouldn't be gaming, if that was the case teenagers would rarely become gamers. However for those who can't afford a gold subscription why should they be made to feel like they're missing out?

Maybe it's just because I have the preview Dashboard, but I have free Halo Waypoint on Silver. I went to download it and it said it was Gold, plus New Zealand child accounts can't download ANYTHING (Microsoft doesn't care), so I need to use an adult account to download stuff, but since it's only for downloading and turning off the stupid parental controls, I don't need gold on it. So, I couldn't download it. Then, I could. Whether or not my brother signing up for Xbox LIVE and getting 1 month free Gold for joining had anything to do with it or not, I don't know, but he also has a child account.

I don't have Twitter or Facebook though so I haven't tried them. Halo Waypoint is cool because it has a bunch of achievements that unlock Avatar gear, which are unlocked by getting a few achievements in ODST. It's all pretty hardcore.

Still, I found I can play online with Silver, just not in Ranked playlists (I can play social), so maybe I could use this time for trying to get some online achievements (or not, because I don't own ODST, I only rented it, and I don't have the map packs for Halo 3, so no ranked matches for me).

It's nice to see that microsoft is giving people the chance to try xbl gold for free instead of making them purchase it to experience the new additions. I enjoyed these days, lot's of noobs online. You can read about upcoming promotions here Free Xbox Live Gold
