Okay, so headshot might be too strong a word here, but Modern Warfare 2 has certainly wounded Xbox Live Arcade activity, as GamerBytes reports that top Arcade titles have seen a massive reduction in leaderboard activity since the release of Infinity Ward's latest blockbuster. Specifically, Trials HD -- long the reigning XBLA champion -- saw its leaderboard numbers drop from 14,890 players on the week of November 2 to 8,942 the week of November 9, about a 40 percent loss. Meanwhile, other titles including South Park, Zombie Apocalypse and Tower Bloxx Deluxe saw their leaderboards almost halved. Castle Crashers, curiously, only saw its numbers drop from 8,395 players to 6,034, a reduction of only 28 percent.
Still, it's pretty clear that Modern Warfare 2 has pulled a lot of gamers away from the more casual fare on XBLA. Either that, or lots of hardcore Call of Duty fans unceremoniously yanked the controllers from their more casually-oriented significant others.

Liek omgawd, Call of Duty is stealing players from other games! Especially the Arcade ones!

I noticed this with Halo 3 and Halo ODST as well. Before MW2 Halo 3 was averaging about 800,000 unique players in 24hrs but now its down to about 400,000. And ODST was averaging around 200,000 but now is down to 50,000.
Not really a surprise though when you see close to 1 million players on MW2 at any given time.

Very true, checked bungies website and it has dropped to 400,000 players. Whilst ODST is at 50,000 players.
ODST was pretty bad though, didn't have anything that kept wanting me to come back for more. And Firefight was fun, but just got plain boring after I got all the achievements.

I enjoyed the story and game play in ODST but what i think really killed it was the lack of matchmaking for Firefight. If it had that i think it would have hung around a lot longer but, yeah i agree that there is not much reason to keep playing after the achievements.

What was Gears 2's player number on the day of MW2 release? They had triple XP and I couldn't even get a game.
They say the triple XP was for GoW 2's first anniversary, but it was clearly to try to stop people going on MW.
Its still on double XP now because 'they received good feedback' about it. Not that I'm complaining, of course.
