First post on Joystiq. Still learning the ropes. Next time I'll just state my opinion with no linkage. Thanks for the heads up. Cheers! ^_^

no reason not to pimp your blog / content here. As long as it's on topic, Joystiq is one of the best ways to get spikes - despite the criticisms and flames you may get from JS readership ;)

MusicBox, I would argue that the main question is actually "Why don't you read the review that I just wrote which addresses that exactly question?"

Justin McElroy, I read the review. ;) The comment was directed more to readers of the article than to yourself. As you stated, you *liked* the first game. I was just wondering if the game is so good that those who didn't like the first game (such as myself) could be won over by Assassin's Creed 2. I *want* to like it, but I'm hesitant to pick it up and be disappointed again.

I, like Chris Grant, believed that the first game was basically broken, and I look forward to hearing reviews from those who share my point of view of the first game.

Great to hear from you, sir. Much respect! Cheers! ^_^

Assassin's Creed 2, Bayonetta, FF13, GoW3 (+ GoW Collection), Blazblue, Devil May Cry 4, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 1 & 2, an Xbox 360 w/ Left 4 Dead 2 and Gears of War 2...

God. Damn.

I seriously need to find a job if I wanna buy all these games within the next year or so.

It's settled. I shall flip burgers after school like an average 17 year old for cash!

*Twitch* this is killing me. There are sooooo many good games that are coming out and so little time to finish them. I was having a hard enough time before I bought my PS3 trying to balance those games, Champions (yes I am one of the few who bought and enjoys Champions Online,) and the Xbox games I've got back logged is killing me. And worst of all damn Bioware released Dragon Age which is like this siren call. I tried finishing Assasian's Creed last night. I'm I'd say 3/4s of the way in (I'm guessing.) Any how I'm at the point where you are sent to kill the three city leaders.

God knows I'm probably not even that close to the end. But I wanted to try and plow through and get the game done. I get an hour in and I just can't resist. Dragon Age just calls out to me with it's haunting voice. The most damn frustrating thing is it's these waves of game releases.

If the industry didn't cluster everything so close together it wouldn't be so painful. Also, they'd probably get better sales numbers. Instead of having two or three big clusters of purchases in the year they could have a stead flow of income. Ah well... I'm going to want to play for a little bit tonight but dollars to donughts I wont be two hours in before Dragon Age sneaks up on me again and next thing I know I'm fighting the blasted Dark Spawn. :-P

I love this game so far, but the clinching moment for me was the obligatory "It's a-me, Mario!" line coming from Ezio's uncle. I saw it coming a mile away and I STILL fell out of my chair laughing.

"more slots for injury-curing medicines"
Can someone confirm that this is actually in the game? I mean, the first AC took a long time to make a point that your ancestor was NEVER hit and all the mistakes were your mistakes (that's why there was a synch bar, not health bar), why the hell are they ruining it like this?

I loved AC1 and am excited to play AC2. But for some reason, I'm just not tripping over myself to pick this up. It's more of a Xmas list pick or a " when-I-get-around-to-it" title for me at this point.

Great review, and I agree with it one hundred percent.

I enjoyed the first game, but it really fell flat with me about half way through. I just became bored with it. It was beautiful and introduced some really neat concepts but was not enough to keep me coming back.

I hesitantly picked up Assassins Creed II and have barely touched anything since. I am having almost as much fun running around the world and doing side missions and seeking out all of the secrets as I am interested in continuing the story.

Fantastic sequel that already has be curious for the next one.

As a person who didn't finish the first Assassin's Creed mainly because of the boredom, I was very satisfied with Assassin's Creed 2. I didn't know about the E _ _ N when I read the summary of AC1 prior to playing AC2, so I instantly knew crazy shit was going to happen during the final levels of AC2 and I was right - I was definitely not expecting the ending of AC2. "Nothing is true, everything is permitted" INDEED

IMO, this is the sandbox game that GTA IV wished it could be. There are so many side missions and the best part is that it still feels like you're progressing through the story when you do them. I haven't had this much fun with a sandbox game in awhile.

I understand how people want score values. It's something tangible we as a society hold dear. It makes it simple, makes it easy to say "7 out of 10 means I will probably enjoy it, but maybe I should wait until it goes on sale"

Joystiq bucks the trend and I enjoy the reviews, I like them not putting in the score, but even knowing that, there is a teeny part of me that wouldn't like that score. Maybe I'm just OCD or something.

Also, I liked AC1. It did get repetitive and the same damn phrases from every character got on my nerves. Having to reply the start of every mini-mission made me want to punch a kitten.

But on this one... why are you able to decline even major plot point tasks? I'm afraid to do it for fear of screwing up the game somehow, but what happens?

Anyway, AC2 is fantastic. I LOVE the characters, LOVE Mario's introduction (seriously... SERIOUSLY) and it's an all-around better experience even though the fluidity of gaining tasks, abilities and such in what seems to be a strange order... But I'm not making sense. This is becoming a TLDR.

Get this game. I was lucky to trade in my Batman AA that I got for 40 and my original L4D to get it, and it really is worth it, even at full price it feels like one heck of a game.

this game is awesome. i have lot of fun playing it. two double kills to the throat with the hidden blades is the most satisfying thing you can do. its the perfect level of difficulty and the story is engrossing. the only thing that gets annoying are those terrible fake italian accents.

Ah, seems the game is about on par with what i'd anticipated. Still, it's a shame to see the game has, once again, been ported to PS3. When is Ubisoft going to walk with the cool kids who develop the PS3-version, then port it to a 360-version? I heard this is easier, and makes neither version look crippled.
Not that i'm not picking this up of course, i loved the first one, even the Desmond-scenes, and despite the horrible framedrops in the PS3-version and stupid leaps into nothingness at the most inconvenient moments.
How's the polish on this one? Are there less things that seem out of place? do the acrobatics seem more fluently? Is the city filled with more actually plausible humans than mongoloid steriotypical folks who push you or toss their vases on the ground when you're on the other side of the street?

Bloodlines sucked btw.

I can even tell i want a game from a bad review, just by what the reviewer says about points of the game and so forth, things he nitpicks and stuff... I can usually tell what is objectified opinions in some cases, and like i said, I've gotten some games that i loved for reasons some reviewers hated... and of course, like all things reviewed, its personal opinions in most cases, and like a**holes, everyone has one...

"Assassin's Creed has been expanded on so much that I kept wondering why, if this was the game Ubisoft wanted to make in the first place, the company even released the first one."

Could not agree more. I fell in love with the first game and for a small while I didn't mind the repetitive missions, but eventually I stopped seeing the point. I read a walkthrough to get the story details but I sold the game back before completing it.

Assassin's Creed II easily did away with that. It's always going to be "kill x" or "assassinate this guard" or "remain undetected" but I was never left with the impression that I was just doing busy work. Every leg of the mission was advancing the story at a good pace. Even the game's only collectible--the feathers--had some purpose.

It would have been nice if you had more frequent returns to the real world. They provided good stopping points in the first game.

The combat is still pretty lackluster. I hated it in the first game and it's not much better here. It's slow, clunky, and countering blows always seems like it's left up to chance. It's never really fun--I always just felt like I wanted to get it over with so I can do anything else.

Still a must-have, though, and definitely what Assassin's Creed should have been.

I personally think that Assassin's Creed 2 was the best game of the year. First off the storyline was amazing as it showed clearly what type of person Ezio was, and also made you feel like you were part of the story. Secondly the graphics were mind-blowing they had every detail cornered and all the angles of the architecture and people brought in the game. I am very happy to say that Assassins creed 2 is a must have game and that they should make more games like this in the future.

9/10
Thank you Ubisoft!!

Hi, my name is Anita Johan. I am a mother of 5 children, 1 boy who is 14, and 4 younger girls. I have a passion for gaming, and my son does as well. I always play through a game before him to check it for anything inappropriate. Let me tell you, Assassin's Creed 2 might just be the game of the century. Not only that, but it is a great learning experience for my 14 year old son. You explore Renaissance Italy, learning about various cities, as well as learning about the legendary Leonardo Da Vinci. This game might be rated M, but I would say any kids 14 years and older could play this. It is not too violent, and although the rating has sexual content listed, this is really stretching the truth. There was maybe one suggestion towards sexual content, it played virtually no part in this game. This game is a 10 out of 10.
