I don't see the relevance of using this photo. Poking fun at disabled dogs? Ridge Racer? Why not just go the full distance and have a picture of a human in a wheelchair?

Honestly? I'm sure the dog was crushed when he saw his picture on Joystiq.

The amazing part is that if it were a picture that some other group found offensive, most of the commenters here would say to "just deal with it" and would be outraged if the picture was switched.

It's not like the picture promoted dog violence or anything. I have absolutely nothing against animals, and I have no idea how the picture was even taken as something negative.

I'll never forget those weird combination of moments for that presentation @ E3.
Riiiiiiiidge Racer. Indeed.

I've not ever played much RR, had the DS version and is was okay, though you HAD to finish first in each event in order to progress. I traded it in, too much drifting as well.

I KID YOU NOT! I turned off the tv as Sara Mclaughlin was singing and they were showing homeless and/or abused puppies and sat down at the computer and this is the first picture I see..... I'm turning off my computer now.

Joystiq posted this picture not me, but why do I feel so awful now?

But still. Really immature and tasteless. I wonder how her owners would feel knowing the picture was used in such a context?

In addition:

Given the comments here already, I don't think it's too much to ask that Alexander Sliwinski apologise and/or remove this article entirely. It reflects badly on Joystiq and the writer, in particular, sitting at his desk googling 'disabled dogs' for an otherwise pointless article about a trademark being filed. Poor poor journalism, if it can even be called that.

at the very LEAST, the picture and the article's remark made about quadriplegics animals should be removed.

Dreadedfear

Fair enough really, although hopefully Joystiq never reaches this level of tabloidism: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/

I love Joystiq too so luckily they've now removed the picture. Should never have been up there in the first place though (even if the text still is...).

@willooi (www.willooi.com)
Holy crap! Half that page is filled with half-naked women. The Sun here in Canada (more specifically the Toronto Sun) usually has half-naked women on the last few pages, including the sunshine girl.

Half-naked women aside, damn it must suck to have to see that garbage in every newsstand, grocery store, and some idiots walking around "reading" it.

Dreaded Fear

Indeed, modern society has taken a horrendous turn for the worse. Here in Oz there's also 'Zoo weekly', which is like a 2 dollar British bikini trashmag which I won't link to, and you just see schoolkids reading it casually with the covers splashed on buses and at supermarket checkout aisles, etc. Not surprising that kids these days are getting pregnant at 12, etc. *sigh*

... But I'll stop myself now before I stray any further off topic!

I wish I lived in Canada

"I don't think it's too much to ask that Alexander Sliwinski apologise..."

It's been about thirteen hours since the post went live, and since Joystiq bloggers monitor comments it's a bit of a head-scratcher why an apology has yet to appear.

It seems Joystiq staff that an apology is needed here, and a fast change of picture to something more...in tune with the news.

I wont say shame on you, but, what did you smoke/take/eat in order to think that this would be in general accepted?
