I'm not so interested in this as I'm not bothered about social networking, but I can appreciate that this is a good update. Others on the other hand can't stop complaining about it, and I can't really understand why. Sure, it may not be quite as fleshed out as it could've been, but it's not bad by any stretch of the imagination. Just be patient.

I guess to some people everything is weak. We all know that the one big update people are waiting for is cross game chat/invites. But it seems that anything else will simply be brushed aside and slandered.
Some can’t appreciate the little things that enhance the overall product.

thank you, you pretty much summed everything i feel about this topic.

Why do people look down on FaceBook? i use it alot, i connect with my work buddys (who i game with), my younger siblings, my HS friends. Are people just going to act like all gamers are anti-social or we hate on anything mainstream. I love this app on the PS3, and wlecome it very much so.

but people who are not with it don't see it as any benifit to them so they give it and its supporters a hard time because Sony doesn't give into THEIR demenads. Like cross game chat (which i myself have no use for)

No one is going to appreciate the little things until Sony takes care of the big ones. PS3 as a great console (especially at its newish price point and the ridiculously good exclusives its had out lately, like demons souls, uncharted 2, etc), free online, blu-ray, netflix, etc.

But everyone simply wants cross game voice chat (the cross game text chat rooms it has just don't cut it). In addition to that it needs to auto-sync trophies. Those two features is all Sony should care about since that's what everyone keeps asking for.

The only gripe I have about the PS3 and Xbox360 Facebook experience is that you have to be in Facebook UI get the status updates. It would be a lot better to see updates while your in games or be able to check it on the side.

It would be a perfect thing to check scores or news updates between matches for games but how it's implemented right now I don't see myself using it much...

Free updates are awesome, but what I'm waiting for more than cross game chat are new avatars! When are they coming? I know I've been rambling about avatars for a long time now because I think they are way overdue and a lot of them suck ass. C'mon, Sony! You can do it! =D

@Damon:
I agree with you in the sense that I'm not terribly interested in Facebook integration being included with the patch. What has surprised me is how fast Sony brought out Facebook integration in the first place. I mean, Microsoft's Facebook integration didn't kick in for everyone until what? Yesterday?

This better be blockable in the same way apps are. With many friends who play PS a little too fanatically, and who enjoy bragging, this will probably get very annoying very fast.

And trigger points? That just sounds like giving a message every time you acheive something like, say, getting a kill streak on MW2. Now THAT would be annoying, given how many devoted (and bloody good) COD fans I'm friends with :/

every other app is blockable on facebook so why wouldnt this be? although I believe that just blocks it from sending you invites etc, but you will still see them as I still see all the countless mafia wars, farmville and stupid quizzes

thing is if you do block said app and they add the ability to find PSN friends on facebook then you won't have that luxury...

By block I meant hide.

And if they do add the functionality to find friends with PSN, that would be pretty great. But only until I get everyone's PSN. Then I'll hide it fo' sho'

a setup for the other added functionality no doubt. but the fact still remains that it took all of a day to throw in some code that would shoot out trophy info and purchases to your profile wall/news feed...

It will most likely be early next year before we see an actual APP that allows photo uploads and viewing, and stat updates....

I'd much rather they had added Auto-Syncing for trophies.....I mean that should have been an instant thing that ran in the background since trophies were first implemented....

Agreed. Automatic Trophy Sync and Cross-Game Chat/Invites, plz!

All the same, as PS3 owners we still can't argue that it's nice to have all this stuff without a subscription fee. And for the record (before people start bitching), I own a 360 as well and have a Gold subscription to Live. And so far, I feel like PS3 has almost everything I need, except for the points stated above...oh, and L4D2.

I'm renting L4D2 and will play online during this "Free" weekend.....after that it goes back to gamefly.....

but yea a UNIVERSAL Cross-game invite system would be nice...as some games ahve already implemented them....I get invites to play Uncharted 2 all the time while playing other games....

dont particularly care for the cross game chat....as I stated before I dont wanna hear someones convo about another game while I am playing something different...but it will be nice to shut people up....

I think you'll thoroughly enjoy L4D2...probably not enough to subscribe to Gold, but it's a lot of fun. Right now, it's the only thing standing between my Live Subscription and its horrid, slow demise. I started off this gen as one of the 360's most staunch supporters, but Sony has proven that though they had a slow start, their system really does have some serious merit.

honestly to ME the ONLY thing that would make be get gold would be IF REACH is actually about something....OR if Gears 3 comes out next year and does NOT come out on PC or PS3....I mean people argue that its worth paying for...and I'm just like ok...for you it is....but for me, a guy who get only EXCLUSIVES on the 360 and Halo 3 is not one of said exclusives....its just not worth it to me...

as of know we have to MANUALLY sync the trophies....which happens by selecting sync or by looking at a PSN profile....it NEEDS to be ran in the background as soon as you get said trophy...like Live does...

lol....I would say I don't care....cause I don't really...but it kinda shows what type of games I play at least....I think thats a good thing...

making it auto update would also kill part of the complaint about it taking too long to look at peoples profiles...

Hahahaha! Yeah, I've been preaching the Gospel of Demon's Souls to my friends to the point where they all caved in and bought the game. Now they curse me for introducing them to a game that they haven't been able to put down for well over a month, even with the launch of Modern Warfare 2.

@Chris:
Considering that Atlus had to do another print run because of ridiculously high demand, I'd say that you should definitely pick it up now while it's still in stock or at least wait until Black Friday. Atlus isn't known for making massive print runs for their niche titles and it shows... as eBay items going for well over the original retail price.

You don't have to play the game immediately. Just buy the game so that it is well within your reach to play it whenever you feel like getting addicted. Otherwise, you'll be cursing yourself on missing out on an excellent game.

+1. I'm really glad they listened to the fan outcry after 3.00. They do look a bit more transparent, but I'm hoping for an opacity setting so we can tweak it to be exactly how we want it. The colors are a better change IMO.

They're still missing the best part of the xbox facebook app, which is that you can see all of your facebook friends who also have gamertags, and vice versa. I added three gamertags to my friends list of people I know in real life on the first day it came out.
