We've all seen reports about the PS3 version of Bayonetta's visual inferiority to the 360 iteration of the game, but according to a few forum posters on Platinum Games' site, the title is plagued by a bigger problem on Sony's home console: Lengthy load times. According to one forum post, it takes 25 seconds to load a level, 10 seconds to load a cutscene, five seconds to open the menu and three seconds to pick up an item. In the context of the game, that last one makes sense -- we imagine hair-clothes don't offer the flexibility required to collect an object from the ground.
Fortunately, a Sega representative responded to one such complaint, saying "a patch to correct this issue is under consideration," later adding that there's no time frame as to when a decision about the update would take place. In the interest of universal cross-platform equality, we're sincerely hoping the answer is "before January 5."

It's amazing that a visual and technical masterpiece like Uncharted 2 (or even Demon's Souls for that matter) literately NEVER loads on the PS3 other than at the very beginning of play, then you have crap like this come out. Clearly not a whole lot of work was done to stream data off the blu-ray.Menu loads however are just inexcusable. I might be annoyed by this except I have no interest whatsoever about this game when I could get the GOW Collection or just wait for God of War III.

I was annoyed by the menu's loading times (a few seconds?) in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for PS3. Seems that Bayonetta is worse.

But only two seconds to press the Eject Disc button!
Seriously, though, if this is for real -- WHY? There's half-assing something and then there's this.

I love how the fact that its always "lazy developers" This isnt just one game, or one dev team. A wide range of games from a wide range of companies are inferior on the PS3. Stop blaming the devs and blame Sony for using a shitty game architecture.
Yeah, Naughty Dog can work the PS3. But Naughty Dog is a company that develops for nothing but Sony. They dont have to consider the PC or the Xbox 360. Plus, these other companies are releasing multiple games per year. Naughty Dog, on average, releases 1 game every 2 years. They have 100 employees, and have made nothing but PS games since 1996. Thats why their games are so good. So the hardware complexity of the PS3 effects them less.
On the other hand, some other companies (Sega, EA, etc) can release a dozen or more games a year. They also have to program across a wide range of devices (PC, the handhelds, and all the consoles). Its not finanically sound for them to take 2 years off and focus completely on optimizing a game for the console that currently has the least sales of this generation.
The PS3 is powerful. And Sony first party games will always be really great for that exact reason: They are small, focused, teams who can easily share information and only have to focus on a small number of games each generation, for one particular platform. Sega has 3100 employees, its hard to go around teaching them all the tricks for making the PS3 tick right, and its not even worth it when you have the 360 which is far easier to program for and has a much larger install base anyways.

Stop being a fanboy. Do you even know anything about the development of Bayonetta? This game was shipped off to a 3rd party developer to do the PS3 port. Go play Assassins Creed 2, Modern Warfare 2, Madden 10, Brutal Legend, Borderlands or any other high profile 3rd party game and you'll see that there is parity across the board. Making it out like only exclusives can look good on the PS3 is just idiotic and hyperbolic in nature. No excuse for the game to have that long of loading ... it's obvious they didn't optimize the game and did a rushed port job. Obvious to anyone that isn't being a fanboy anyway.
This is without a doubt a case of a lazy developer. They couldn't even be bothered to make a port themselves so how is it they aren't lazy?

If inferior ports are a case of dev laziness, explain to me why the Xbox 360 verison always plays fine?
By your logic, all these high end devs (EA, Sega, Terminal Reality, Bethsesda) all magically become lazy when they start making cross platform games for the PS3. Nope, has nothing to do with the PS3 architecture, nothing to do with Blu-ray's slowness. All those mandatory installs are just a massive conicidence too, all the dev's fault, even though all these dev's make 360 games just fine.
Who is really being a fanboy?

I don't think its laziness as much as it is just Sega trying to make the most profit out of this new IP, without spending to much time and money on it. The game was being made for the 360 and Sega probably just didn't wanna delay the ps3 version, when they know it'll still sell well in japan.

So why even bother releasing it on the PS3 if the quality is going to suffer greatly especially compared to the 360's version? To me it sounds like rather than trying to release a stellar cross platform product Sega's just trying to cash in as quickly as possible on a new IP. Bayonetta could do very well if it's handled with care and consideration. They should delay the PS3 version of Bayonetta so they can make the port every bit as good as the 360 version of it. I was one of the lucky winners for the early demo access on the 360 and the game is pretty awesome. If the experience is going to be tarnished by shoddy workmanship on the PS3 Sega's just going to kill a promising franchise before it even has a chance to get off the ground. What a shame.....

I played the Japanese PS3 demo and dont understand what's supposed to be so shoddy about it. the graphics look fine and while the frame rate may not be perfect it's far from the stutter fest that people keep trying to make it out to be. Maybe that's because the demo play off the HDD? but in that case just give us the option to install content on the HDD.

This is why we have a hard drive though, we're supposed to have the option to install stuff on the HDD so that we can avoid wait times like this due to the slower drive speed (or in some cases the sloppy placement of data on a BR disk). If they're not spart enough to put data that slows the game down near the center of the disk then they need to offer the option to install data on the HDD so it will load faster. But of course since every one complains when they do this everyone has to suffer.

visually weaker... and now some crazy load times... This is slowly starting to show all the markings of a very bad port. I typically get multi-platforms on my PS3 but in this case I may have to make an exception.. I must admit I find it disappointing that a company the size of SEGA could let things like this get by.

The game hasn't launched yet has it ?
hopefully it hasn't, haven't really been following it but I'm crossing my fingers that the patch won't happen and instead they are busily scrapping all existing copies to remake them with a functional version of the game before it ships.
If there is one HUGE flaw with the upcoming digital age its the Ship now Fix later mentality that seems to be propagating itself at an alarming rate. Which is great they meet their street date and two weeks after the launch they patch a huge game breaking but they left in because it would have pushed the street date back a month. which is all fine and dandy as long as they plan on keeping that patch available from now until the end of time but they won't in five years when most people have moved on it along with all other game support will be cut.
If the game comes out with the Issue on the PSP because they aren't smart enough to code efficiently for a cell processor then buy it on the 360, hard to say because I prefer the PS3 myself but a broken game with a band aid on it is still broken.

All PS3 have HDD's and users even could replace it with third party HDDs.
I've replaced mine with a 500GB HDD.
Its an advantage compared to the Xbox360.(Arcade Edition didn't have HDDs).
So I don't know why developers wouldn't use this advantage.
Street Fighter IV, Tekken 6 had optional install.
Devil May Cry 4, GTA IV, Battlefield Bad Company, Mercenaries 2 etc, had mandatory install.
I really wonder why Sega didn't add any install options with that amount of loading time. Because they definitely should of tested this game before shipping it.
Another one which is the FIFA series.
This game really goes hard on the Blu-ray drive while loading.
(You can hear the drive working very hard)
But they (EA) still don't add any optional install.
The PS3 has a HDD. USE IT!
An OPTIONAL install feature wouldn't hurt anyone.

True. They don't have to install everything, either. Just the most-often needed stuff. The 360 has an option to do it transparently, where DVD data is cached to the hard drive.

And I agree with the first poster. Games like Demon's Souls have proved, among others, that there doesn't need to be excessive load times (or graphical problems). This is just laziness to the worst degree.
I loved you in the Saturn days, and even in the Dreamcast days kinda... but seriously SEGA, screw you.

I imported Bayonetta for the PS3 and have gone through 1.5 playthroughs of it. Yes, the load times are bad and annoying. A patch to improve them is a great idea. No, there is not an option to load it to the hard disk.
However, even with this flaw, this is a *really* great game, and I highly recommend it. 360 if you can, but if you only have a PS3, it's still very much worth getting on that platform instead.

I agree with the guys when they said that fixing this kind of thing isn't a feature, it's a requirement. While not a game killer, it's the kind of thing that detriments from gameplay. The cutscene and load times aren't as bad because gameplay isn't running.

Interesting enough, playing the PS3 version, you probably would not even notice the problems as much and would have a fun time with the game. The fact that there is a better version is what pissing off PS3 only gamers. I do not know how better the 360 version is since I have not played it but the PS3 version looks fine. I did not notice the load times either so I am guessing its the retail version that suffers from this then the demo. One thing I do know is that a huge majority of you know nothing about programming because you only want to blame the developer when a port doesn't meet a certain standard.
The true issue has always been Sony. Yes, we know that the PS3 is a system that can create nice graphics but we also know that it take a lot of work to get those graphics out. Remember that Naughty Dog went on record stating it took them 3 years on the PS3 engine alone (first Uncharted game). You know Platinum is a small time developer, new company and probably no expertise on the PS3 platform. Next you have Sony who's business was to make the PS3 harder, who countless developers stated that Sony did not provide support, resources, tools, documentation to help them get up to speed on the PS3.
Yes, Sony has improved from their stance when the PS3 was released but remember some of these games were in production before that change. It's also not like the change happen the next day but instead took years. Taking a game that was totally coded for the 360 and putting it on the PS3 we should all know is a challenge itself. Somethings just cannot be redone on the PS3 and optimized to work just as good on the PS3 because of development time. This is not the fault of the developer but can be directed towards Sony.
Sony builds a complex system, hand that system to developers and say "make it work" is basically spitting in their faces. Its not like every developer has the resources, time and money like Sony First party devs.
If you have ever coded for a complex project, especially if it's something totally new, you know how dependent you are on documentation, library resources from the OEM to complete that project and get understanding in a short period of time. Have you people forgotten that even Japanese developers have come out to say how MS provides them with everything they need to get their games out within a proper development time while they have to pretty much grunt their way on the PS3.
So, you can take the petty position about PS3 ports and put the total blame on the developers but maybe you should consider that Sony plays a large role in what has happen and the true blame goes to them. It was Sony attitude that has caused such situations we have today with poor ports and if it wasn't for the MS and the 360, I highly doubt that they would have changed. Competition has changed Sony which we all should be thankful for.

Does this really surprise anyone. Bad dev kits and worse hardware equals, slower, worse looking game. Go to any website like Lens of Truth, or Eurogamer and they have many comparisons showing the PS3 version being slower and looking inferior and explaining why. All these games are developed by many different developers and yet almost all the games are still better on 360. Hell, even some games that are ported to 360 are better on 360. And all you retarded Sony fanboys quit being little bitches and blaming the developers. Blame Sony for their horribly designed GAME console and dev kits. I wish all the developers would read these comments and realize their user base is a bunch of jackasses and just not support the PS3 at all. And btw, I have a PS3 and love Uncharted and Metal Gear.
