The Sims 3 World Adventures downloadable now, hitting retail this week
Is your Sim sick and tired of its usual routine of skipping work, improving its skills, making well-timed bathroom trips and attempting to WooHoo every single person in the neighborhood? Good news: The Sims 3's first (but certainly not last) expansion, World Adventures, is downloadable now for $39.99. If you're an oddly selective Luddite who plays video games but shuns the practice of downloading them, you can pick up a copy of the expansion in retail outlets when it arrives at some unspecified time this week.
The expansion allows your virtual representation (be honest, you modeled him/her after yourself, right?) to collect treasures, learn new skills and travel to France, China and Egypt, where we assume they'll attempt to WooHoo everyone there as well. You should really talk to your Sim about getting that under control, okay?

Make it $20 and more people will buy it.
*looks back to Sims 2* Whoa. Deja vu.

You'd have to be a youngster to not understand why one wouldn't want to download a game.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 18th 2009 3:16PM
I'm 19, I guess I'm a youngster.
I don't understand it, but I don't even think it's something worth arguing.
Industries change. Either accept it or find another hobby.
Taylor @ Nov 18th 2009 3:18PM
I agree. I'm pretty sure it's not oddly selective to want hard copies of your games.
JXCgunrunna @ Nov 18th 2009 3:19PM
Why is that? I have a few hundred dollars invested in steam and had no problems. I love that I can move from one desktop to another and then to my laptop when im at school. It saves my settings and i do not have to carry around an extra case full of games.
You would have to be an idiot to understand why one would not want to "own" their media digitally.
I say "own" because just because you own a disk, you do not actually own the IP.
Shagittarius @ Nov 18th 2009 3:30PM
Yeah if you have to enable a game on steam to play it you sure as hell don't own it.
However all those games I have in boxes from 1981 - Today that aren't activated online, I do indeed own.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Nov 18th 2009 3:41PM
How do you not own them?
They're all linked to your account. No one can take them away from you.
Sounds like someone is just ranting about change.
Damn kids and their music.

I'm 26(27 next week) and I can understand people's arguments about ownin the disc...but not on this...as of late most Disc based games STILL require some sort of online activation on PC....its really no purpose to buy a disc of a PC game anymore for that reason...

$40 bucks for an expansion? Are you kidding me? Whatever, if people find value in paying that ten more times for the next expansions power to them.
I threw away (figuratively) The Sims 3 soon after I realized it was just another rehash of Sims 2 with so many glaring omissions that I knew it would lead down to a dark path.
I mean, seriously, they took out 90% of everything the Sims 2 expansions added. Just so they can add it back again? If I'm the only one who finds this puzzling and offensive, then I guess I really have hit my gaming peak at 23...
I understand them not wanting to give away everything all over again, but some of the missing stuff is just stupid. Certain tools and features. Items, I can live with even if you have to pay for them... (I won't, ever)
Anyhow, I digress. For $40 this better add a heck of a lot more than just items and menus saying what you did. If it's more interactive like The Sims 3 should have been (actually play out your job as a maid, cop, hipster, etc... as an option) then I might get back on board.
Knowing EA, it's rather unlikely.

*sigh*
I was originally going to reply to this thread but I see I forgot to undo it when I decided not to...

There's no guarantee that those servers are always going to host those games spyder...
Xoonaka @ Nov 18th 2009 3:33PM
Saw this in Best Buy yesterday.

Any plans for a console version? The only game my girlfriend liked on consoles was The Sims, she would play it for hours on end.

dear lord...if my wife finds out about this I will NEVER be able to get on my gaming PC....FML
mrcheerful @ Nov 18th 2009 4:15PM
You might want to look into all the issues people are having with the expansion pack. Apparently saved games are being wiped out, traits are disappearing, content is being brought back from the expansion area to the default home, and a host of other worries. My girlfriend played for about twenty minutes and then had to give up because so much of what they promised wasn't working. And here I thought I'd have some quiet time to concentrate on MY games... Anyway, something you may want to ask EA about. :)
arkweld @ Nov 18th 2009 6:01PM
Damn, when The Sims stop being girlfriend gaming crack then you know it's got problems.
the.Alistair @ Nov 18th 2009 10:06PM
It's not just the expansion pack, but even the 1.6 patch for the base game is causing problems. It gave me the Blue Abysses of Death (lots disappearing, leaving nothing but blue abysses in their places). Others are having Error 16 problems (saving issues), and Error 12/13 problems.
This whole thing was a debacle. Thank you, EA. Thank you for these problems. You have certainly earned my business for future Sims games games.

Woohood your mom...
RudyHuxtable @ Nov 18th 2009 4:21PM
I got Sims 3 for my birthday but gave up on it once I saw how much nickel-and-diming was about to happen with the Sims store. I'm not about to spend an additional $20 on a tea set and a table.
INNUENDO 64 @ Nov 18th 2009 6:41PM
Here's to hoping that the next expansion to the sims 3 will be the sims 4
RKN (Steam ID: nerdydesi) @ Nov 18th 2009 10:45PM
I am surprised this isn't on the consoles, its completely possible and there is an audience for this game on consoles.
EA, you like $$$, if Crysis 2 has to come on the consoles, why not Sims 3?
