Okay, if you want honesty: we can't usually tell the difference between Xbox 360 and PS3 clips when put side-by-side. We've been gaming since characters were less detailed than gingerbread men, so comparison clips always look like two gateways to the future chugging along next to each other. But if DigitalFoundry tells us there's juddering, then we're inclined to believe them, no matter what juddering actually means.
Luckily, the team seems to be pretty happy with the PS3 version of Assassin's Creed II, following the original iteration's disappointing performance on the platform. That said, though the two consoles versions are much closer to each other this time, the site still leans towards the Xbox 360 version of the game for its sharper picture and smoother performance.
For what it's worth, we think they're both winners.

Not a PS3 owner here. But for what it's worth... Considering how much it costs to own a PS3 vs. a 360 now, I could care less now than ever.

I might be confused but aren't both systems farely priced now where i live you can get a xbox 360 pro for $200 and a ps3 for $300 and considering the ps3 comes with blu-ray thats a pretty good deal, but I guess even without blu-ray it would be decent deal. Also really, there is almost no difference and really does it matter if one is a tiny bit worse than they other?

Yeah, it's great that companies are making both versions of games basically even overall, unlike the times of yore when we experience shitty ports...
But it's not worth it comparing graphics of Assassins Creed 2 because they're just not that good...
I might have thought they looked fine/good if I played it a month ago... but I've got and played Uncharted 2 since then and WOW! I didn't realise how much better (well I obviously realised how good it was, just not compared to some current gen. games) Uncharted 2 was, especially in the cut scene department after playing the first hour of so of AC2.

Actually he was right. "Couldn't care less" is a double negative, not and less. Anyways, for what it's worth I own a ps3 and a 360. I prefer the 360, but I will get a game on whichever system that the game is better on.

Actually, it's not a double negative. Less is an amount, not a negative.

@Cody: How exactly is it a double negative? "Less" is being used to define the degree, or amount, of caring. He's not saying he can't care about it, he's saying he cares so little of it, any less and it would no longer classify as caring. Saying it's a double negative is like saying "I couldn't run further" is a double negative, or create your own "I couldn't VERB ADVERB"

No, it's COULDN'T CARE LESS.. americans always say "I could care less".. the whole point of the phrase is to say "I could not care any less then i already am", if you say "I could care less" you're saying "i am not caring as little as i could" lol.

I hate when people say "i could care less" .. bothers me just as much as when people say "same difference" instead of "same thing"
or "irregardless" instead of "regardless"
or "for all intensive purposes" instead of "for all intents and purposes"
VERY VERY rarely are those often incorrect phrases actually and accurately what the people meant to say.

"I could care less" CAN be used correctly. It's English, rules are meant to be bent and broken. Ask any English major. I'm not an English major. Now lets talk about proper use of end-sentence punctuation marks and quotations...everyone gets that wrong.

@ West:
No, you are clearly not an English major. "Could care less" indicates the possibility that the person could potentially have less interest in the subject/topic. If this was the case, then the intended exaggeration of the statement becomes defunct. "Couldn't care less" on the other hand implies that the person is incapable of caring any less about the subject/topic, which supports the intended exaggeration of the statement.
In my experience, I've only heard "could care less" used by Americans. I put this down to a mishearing of the world "couldn't" at some point in the past, but which has now unfortunately embedded itself into common linguistic usage in North America.
So yeah, I'd refrain from commenting on grammar if I were you, as this is not one of your rules "meant to be bent and broken."

Yeah I find it wierd that all comparison's say they use the systems default settings because most casual consumers won't know to change thier settings to get a better picture.... but I don't know of any casual consumers that check comparison video's.... huh... anyone else find that strange..... I picked up my master assassin version monday night for my PS3 and I couldn't be happier, and I bought the first AC for my 360.

It's funny, because the PS3 version wouldnt look like that if they just went under display settings and turned RGB color to "Full." All the comparisons really aren't fair if they have the color at half for one console.

You'd think Sony would have learned from these comparisons and bump up the default contrast in the latest software upgrades.
Although, for gameplay I do like to have my contrast down a bit, so I can see people lurking in the shadows.

The comparisons aren't fair because they didn't change the ps3's default settings?
I thought the whole point of the comparisons was to run everything STOCK default settings.
Should they tweak every setting so that both look as similar as possible? Or does it make more sense to just use the default settings for BOTH systems and see how they go?
I'd tend to side with the latter for the sake of objectivity.

The funny thing about brightness, and I know this is a new thing, is that you can adjust it.

That's not "brighter", that's "washed out".

I wouldn't say that's washed out. The contrast is lower, which makes the colors less saturated, but it can be compensated for with the tv settings. Washed out is an exaggeration.

CheesePirateAssassin: If by "Washed Out" you mean "Doesn't have crushed blacks.
There are some areas of that video where tons of texture detail is being lost to complete blackness on the 360. If that is the case, then no amount of TV adjustment will bring back the detail.

If you've seen any of the other comparison threads they use the default display settings for both systems. which causes some of this. Their view is that they want to compare an out of box experience and that most casual consumers won't know to change thier settings to best fit thier TV. However how many casual consumers do you know that watch comparison videos?

Comparison videos suck. If it's so minor, would it really make a difference when playing? I even hear at times that people won't even bother to buy a game when it's so different to the version of a system they don't own.

Well, my brother's got PS3, but he just hordes the damn thing to himself most of the time out of fear that I'll shiv it or something. Now before you call me a fanboy, know that I own a PS2, 360, and a DS Lite (see my name). I also recognize that the 360 is a damn good system, along with the Wii, and that the PS3 is harder to fit through than Hilary Clinton's vagina. Also, PSN needs more improvements. In my opinion, playing favorites sucks because you'll never get the it all. I could play some Uncharted, but I'll also want me some Madworld, Left 4 Dead or Crackdown. I'm just against foolish decisions like the one I mentioned earlier. But then again, I may be referring to fanboys.
I'm guessing you are a 360 owner?
