Okay, if you want honesty: we can't usually tell the difference between Xbox 360 and PS3 clips when put side-by-side. We've been gaming since characters were less detailed than gingerbread men, so comparison clips always look like two gateways to the future chugging along next to each other. But if DigitalFoundry tells us there's juddering, then we're inclined to believe them, no matter what juddering actually means.
Luckily, the team seems to be pretty happy with the PS3 version of Assassin's Creed II, following the original iteration's disappointing performance on the platform. That said, though the two consoles versions are much closer to each other this time, the site still leans towards the Xbox 360 version of the game for its sharper picture and smoother performance.
For what it's worth, we think they're both winners.

have they ever heard of changing the fucking brightness thats normally all that distinguishes these pictures
same as sharpness since the PS3 and Xbox both use different outputs(As in there not the same method from GPU to the TV not just HDMI socket) the TV needs to be tuned to output as well
Ghost busters is the only one that seem reasonable to complain about from memory havent seen it since its patch

No because the two versions are virtually identical you fucktard. This isn't Bayonetta or Ghostbusters where one version was half assed and you can see it easily. Are you seriously that stupid?

these kinda tests have been proving in favor of the xbox 360 since day one on almost all multi plat games. it's no surprise to me that the 360 version runs smoother and performs better for this game.
ps3 has caught up big time as far as the dev teams catching up to it. xbox 360 maybe almost tapped out. although we'll find out when alan wake comes out, i dont see this generation getting much greater than it has. a couple more bang for ur buck and by the time developers finish tapping into the ps3 and perfected the 360 we all might be headed in a new direction.

As someone who actually works in the music industry( I manage and produce some bands), i'd like to say: Mars, imagine you have a potato farm. Now imagine after a year or two of hard work, your potatoes are ready to be sold. Then, you get fined for stealing, fall into debt, and kill yourself( As you should). Who will sell the potatoes? I'll tell you who. Gary Busey. And he is a terrible salesman.
I guess what i'm trying to say is fuck you... And that is isn't a good idea to post while you are high, because when you look at it later, it won't be funny anymore
To keep this on topic, I've played both versions, and i didn't notice any difference. I'm not quite sure why joystiq is even mentioning this, since most people won't recognize the difference and its guaranteed to start a flame war

It's the same with most comparisons. 360 versions usually have sharper texture/darker (but make things feel too artificial), while PS3 version looks softer/brighter (not necessarily a disadvantage as the softer look can make the visual feels more cinematic/movie like).
When faced with multiplatform option, I tend to like the 360 for its achievement system (and the fact it is linked to Games for Windows too). However, I prefer the PS3 controller, but I hate the PS3 game-patching system and long installation times. Then again, my 360 is too noisy. In the end, I usually just get whichever one on sale/discount/clearance... LOL.

Uh oh, am I gonna get spanked now?
Anyway, system comparisons are handy, but I care more about how the control schemes match up. I'll usually tend to purchase more towards the PS3 usually beacuse I like the Dualshock so much better. If I played online more, I might lean more to the 360 due to Live, but I don't.

Ya know. This is probably blasphmy to say this, but if I were ranking (with real rankings no tthat inflated crap), I would only give this game an 8. Very Good, but not Amazingly OMG freaking great.
It is pretty, detailed, great concept, great art design and all around very very cool...But in the end, I just don't find it THAT much fun to play. Its just that cool. I dunno.

Tthey do not mention 2 important factors if they go so in depth with so little diff. Is the 360 composite or hdmi? and what HDTV are the testing it on? I, like many , interested in this minutia, are early adopters of both systems. So my 360 is composite and my ps3 is hdmi, also I own a 1080p Sony Bravia tv. So does that factor? I would guess so. In my case the ps3 with hdmi may perform better then my composite 360 on a 1080p television? these is pertinent, if going this far in comparing.
Posted: Nov 20th 2009 1:04AM (Unverified) said
In my experience (also as an owner of a 1080p Bravia), there isn't much difference between HDMI and Component, at least video wise. Audio is another story.
But they don't enable the special features, like HDMI Super White, that would give the PS3 the edge over the 360 version, so we get vids like this.
They're both equal enough that an owner of either version should be satisfied.

Strange thing about my TV (52' Sharp Aquos 1080p HDTV) is that it won't output a component connection on 1080p only a max of 720p regardless of the device. I confirmed this when I hooked up the PS3 using component and HDMi. I'm not sure why thats the case in my situation.

Very few TV's can handle 1080p over Component. Few bother to implement it when HDMI exists.

360 looks sharper and that really changes the look of the game. The different remarkable. Also, PS3's in-built habit of over-brightness also kills a lot of the image. Oh well.

It's always the same damn thing. 360 looks darker and richer. PS3 looks faded. Every comparison is the same!

No mention of Dynamic Lighting? It was pretty much the only thing the PS3 version had going for it. Sitting on rooftops and looking at the lighting bloom up as the clouds cleared was fantastic. But God the fps...
After completing it on the PS3 I ended up buying it for PC for an more overall complete edition.

Just an observation, but the PS3 version just looks brighter than the 360 version, unless they're just covering up the texture with bloom? I dunno

Yet another worthless comparison. As in most games, the 360 always look like PC game, and PS3 version has a `movie` look about it.

Achievements > Trophies.
I have both, but I can't stand the trophy system. It seems so copycat and less addictingly implemented.
Regardless, I enjoy the game, but look forward to one day that the polygons don't look as though someone smashed together playdough and put them on an awkward skeleton.
There are some games that get it right.
This one, not one of those. Better than some, but not good enough.

It's good to see the "all powerful" PS3 is finally catching up to the "lesser" 360! INSERT EYE ROLL HERE. Actually they look the same to me so why there are 190 comments on this baffles me.

I find it interesting that the first game was claimed to be a PS3 exclusive at one point and had such horrible performance. I'm glad they improved the output on the PS3 for the second game, but did it didn't seem like they spent too much time on improving the engine on the 360.

The graphics difference isn't worth it either way. I decide which to buy on other factors and that always seems to favor the 360 in my case.
For me the controllers aren't even close. The 360's just feels right to me. Nice weight, feels sturdy. Gets even better w/ chatpad attached. Hate the PS3's. Hate their charging system. I think the 6-axis stuff generally sucks at least so far.
I am totally invested in Gamerscore. Not very competitive with others - I know I don't have the time they do - but I really do enjoy seeing "Achievement Unlocked". Winning trophys don't mean anything to me. Can't explain it - just the way it is.
I really don't like the user interface on the PS3. You look at the 2 of them and you can the roots of the companies. Microsoft - software company who knows how to deliver information in a nice fun way. Sony - it looks like it was designed by engineers from their ivory tower clean rooms - efficient but nothing else.
Blu-ray of course you can't compare but to my eyes at least the PS3 does a bit better job on the regular DVD upscaling. Maybe thats just me since I have the PS3 connected via HDMI and the 360 by component. That being said I have had some TV show DVDs that played fine on the 360 but certain episodes wouldn't play on the PS3 - very weird.
To each their own - buy it on the one you would rather sit and use for hours upon end.

they use the default settings on the PS3... when ever they show the Enhanced RGB mode the PS3 version looks just as good if not better... not that it matters... but if you don't optimize both consoles video settings then these comparisons are completely useless... go to the MW2 side by side and look at the rollover pic that shows the difference between the PS3 and 360 with the RBG enhanced... notice how the gray film over the PS3's picture goes away... so again these side by sides are complete nonsense.
