Once again, Cryptic Studios is giving you a great excuse not to spend time with friends and family over a holiday weekend. The developer's superheroic MMO, Champions Online, will be free-to-play from November 26–30 as a promotion for the game's second free content expansion since its launch in September.
The free update, which is titled Nemesis Confrontation and launches November 24, will include new costumes and perks, and tasks players with escaping from a hostile intergalactic prison -- a mission made much more difficult by the facility's unfriendly inhabitants, seen above. You'll also face off against the Shadow Destroyer (the party responsible for your hero's unrequested detention) and even your user-generated Nemesis. Sounds like a pretty dangerous calling -- but nowhere near as perilous as the crushing throng of Black Friday shoppers that awaits you at your local mall.

I think Champions would make a great story driven single player RPG in the vein of Mass Effect.

I have a friend who does. He likes it. MMOs aren't my bag, but it looks like really high quality stuff.

I had it years ago when it was called City of Heroes.

I have it. It's a fun little diversion. It's so easy to drop in and out of. If I have a spare 30 minutes I can start up the game, complete a few missions, kill a few goons, and log off. And while I'm sure you can min-max Champions Online as much as any other MMO, my character feels powerful without having to resort to spreadsheets to make sure I'm optimizing my stats.

I hope this free weekend actually worse this time. I was really excited when they announced it halloween weekend, but then everyone else was apparently just as excited as me and it took me until sunday to download the fucking game and get it patched, and even then i could never connect to servers : (

You're not a superhero, you don't have super powers. You are a true hero, though.

For the first free weekend, I downloaded it the Wednesday before. You can't log in, but you should be able to download and patch the game at any time.

I am lifetime subscriber of Champs, but seriously guys, you guys have a dedicated MMO blog, Massively, leave it there. Also addition of one end-game Lair, does not equal to an expansion. This is not an expansion, just a much much much needed content injection, something that should have come with the game. It is disheartening to see it being called an expansion.
Did you guys call CoH's Issue 1-15 expansions or content upgrades? Did you call the Books of LoTRO expansions or content upgrades?

they brought it out of the mmo section to let everyone know about the free weekend. If it wasnt for that, then just this addition would have probably stayed there. But seriously, QQ, get used to synonyms

Has Champions gotten better servers? Because after my experience during the LAST free weekend I really don't feel like spending 20 hours downloading the client and the patches just to have it hiccup mid installation.
