Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition hits retail in March, DLC in February [update]
It looks like Capcom USA was tired of us making fun of the proposed name for the upcoming Resident Evil 5 expansion, "Alternative Edition." The division has chosen a bling-ier title for its stateside release: Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition. Gold Edition will be released as a retail box copy on March 9 for $49.99 as a single Blu-ray disc, including the original game and add-on content, on PS3 and as a DVD with download voucher for Xbox 360.
If you already have Resident Evil 5, you'll be able to pick up the first DLC chapter earlier. "Lost in Nightmares" and a custom pack will be available for download on February 17 for Xbox 360 and February 18 for PS3, while the second, unnamed DLC episode will be released March 3 (Xbox 360) and 4th (PS3) alongside a second costume pack. No mention has been made of a possible PC release.
Update: Capcom passed along dates for the European release. The PAL DLC release dates are the same as those reported above. However, the Gold Edition retail release will be Friday, March 12.

Victor @ Nov 19th 2009 12:46PM
What about PC? :(
hunter @ Nov 19th 2009 12:52PM
that´s a good question man, so far we don´t know anything about this or super street fighter iv, even though capcom said that they were very happy with the pc sales of street and soon we would have some "surprises" ... well i just hope the surprise is not something like: this is not going to be released for the pc , surprise!!!!
DeepFriedSushi @ Nov 19th 2009 3:32PM
doesnt the pc version already have the constumes? anyways wait your turn PC users.... consoles get first bite :P
RKN (Steam ID: nerdydesi) @ Nov 19th 2009 6:07PM
I think it will come to PC eventually, along with Super Street Fighter 4. Capcom has shown the PC lots of support recently, especially from a Japanese developer! : )
hardbread @ Nov 19th 2009 12:47PM
uuu sounds good, maybe i should wait for this instead of trying to buy RE5 during black friday
PSN & XBL: StevenMichael @ Nov 19th 2009 12:47PM
I thought RE5 'alternate edition' was gonna use the new motion controllers? Am I misinformed or is this a hint at when we can expect full motion control?
Henry E. @ Nov 19th 2009 1:32PM
Expect the PS3 wand around March or early Q2 2010.
Edgar @ Nov 19th 2009 12:50PM
OMG, RE5 and FFXIII on the same day?!?! Cool!
XLM @ Nov 19th 2009 12:56PM
Beta keys are still available directly from Fileplanet. They're available to Public and Subscribers.

I can confirm this, as I just sauntered over there and retrieved my own key. The only caveat is that I'd recommend a good junk email account.

The DLC is on the disc for the PS3 version, but not for the 360 version? That sucks for 360 owners who don't have Internet access... and is kinda odd, actually...
Henry E. @ Nov 19th 2009 1:02PM
I don't see how that's odd considering Bluray holds more data.
ducttapeBigSexy (PSN&XBL: ducttape12) @ Nov 19th 2009 1:07PM
I would think Capcom would put the DLC on a second disc on 360. I think a lot of people who pick up these re-releases are those who don't have Internet access, don't have a hard drive on their 360, etc.
Henry E. @ Nov 19th 2009 1:26PM
I could see why Capcom made it a DLC. It would cost Capcom more money to make an extra disc, move and duplicate data to second disc while trying to fit in the costumes onto the first disc. Plus, it would be a whole lot cheaper for Capcom and slow down used game sales. Now, 360 owners who purchase resident evil 5 used will be force to buy the dlc if they want the gold edition which in turns more money for Capcom.
On the PS3, they have no excuse why it couldn't fit into a Bluray and it would promote the usage of the ps3 wand which they seem to be so happy about.

Agreed - all this has done is encourage people who only post to win stuff to fill the comments with useless garbage.
Andrew Yoon @ Nov 19th 2009 1:19PM
Funnily, we will be banning people that have ignored the rules. Expect the comments to be cleaned up soon.
Wardo @ Nov 19th 2009 1:00PM
I've been quite pleased with the way Capcom has handled this new edition. Since I already own the original RE5 for 360, the DLC option is much appreciated.
aristokrat @ Nov 19th 2009 1:23PM
I agree, but must admit that I'm a little jealous of the PS3 owners who get to try out the motion control version (if it's good). Now I'm forced with the question of selling my Xbox version and getting the PS3 version with motion control without knowing if it'll be worth it. Ah, such is life.
Dirty @ Nov 19th 2009 1:02PM
I much prefer the old useless garbage.
joeybeast @ Nov 19th 2009 1:03PM
No thank you, I'll wait for the Platinum Edition.
cafecito @ Nov 19th 2009 1:05PM
Worst RE ever!
baby sea tuna @ Nov 19th 2009 2:00PM
Hardly. A step down from the previous, sure, but not the worst.
fohf @ Nov 19th 2009 2:13PM
Resident Evil: Gun Survivor would like a word with you.
cafecito @ Nov 19th 2009 3:30PM
Right. Forgot about Gun Survivor. But hey, Gun Survivor had zombies at least!
profeteer @ Nov 19th 2009 1:11PM
I've learned to ignore that. Apparently people that create shooter games don't do much research into gun safety. But then again, maybe there's zombies in the sky.
Jawmuncher (PSN & XBL:Jawmuncher) @ Nov 19th 2009 1:12PM
Fuck Yes
Guess i'll be picking up both copies of RE5 again.
To bad the PS3 version will still have the 5gb mandatory install :(
N1ghtbl4z3 @ Nov 19th 2009 1:15PM
i need to go back through RE5, only beat it once then i completely forgot about it lol. but this alternative edition looks neat.
But in a few months they might release something with even more content, kind like what nintendo does...
fohf @ Nov 19th 2009 1:37PM
I'll definitely be picking up the new missions for the 360, but I might have to buy the game again for the PS3 cause I want to try it with motion controls...
Vespene -GameTrailers- @ Nov 19th 2009 1:44PM
That's a pretty sweet image... Where could I get a 1920x1200 version?
Foober @ Nov 19th 2009 1:53PM
so this Gold Edition is just the game + released DLC? I dont own RE5, and was waiting for this 2nd release, but maybe I'll get the used version cheap now and download the DLC when it comes out
Solace @ Nov 19th 2009 2:00PM
price should be $40 but I might finally give RE:5 a go with the PS motion controller
KatanaM95 @ Nov 19th 2009 2:10PM
People still play RES: 5?
fohf @ Nov 19th 2009 2:20PM
I do, but I guess I have to quit since you are questioning whether people do and therefore insinuating that the game sucks and only morons play it.
-Jad- @ Nov 19th 2009 3:01PM
Well, wise decision indeed. Gold Edition here I come :)
Energist @ Nov 19th 2009 3:43PM
So wait... half naked Chris is actually a part of the DLC? I thought the first time I saw that pic of him with Librarian Sheva that it was a mod of the PC version....
RKN (Steam ID: nerdydesi) @ Nov 19th 2009 6:15PM
Those are extra costumes in the PC version.
MrAlex @ Nov 19th 2009 4:05PM
This might make me get RE:5, unless some more hardcore games with motion come out around that time.
rambodude72 @ Nov 19th 2009 5:08PM
to be honest i still never really caught on to re5 like i did re4 i finished about half of 5 then moved on :(
Energist @ Nov 19th 2009 6:52PM
Ah. *prays it's one of the DLC costumes*
