It looks like Capcom USA was tired of us making fun of the proposed name for the upcoming Resident Evil 5 expansion, "Alternative Edition." The division has chosen a bling-ier title for its stateside release: Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition. Gold Edition will be released as a retail box copy on March 9 for $49.99 as a single Blu-ray disc, including the original game and add-on content, on PS3 and as a DVD with download voucher for Xbox 360.
If you already have Resident Evil 5, you'll be able to pick up the first DLC chapter earlier. "Lost in Nightmares" and a custom pack will be available for download on February 17 for Xbox 360 and February 18 for PS3, while the second, unnamed DLC episode will be released March 3 (Xbox 360) and 4th (PS3) alongside a second costume pack. No mention has been made of a possible PC release.
Update: Capcom passed along dates for the European release. The PAL DLC release dates are the same as those reported above. However, the Gold Edition retail release will be Friday, March 12.

that´s a good question man, so far we don´t know anything about this or super street fighter iv, even though capcom said that they were very happy with the pc sales of street and soon we would have some "surprises" ... well i just hope the surprise is not something like: this is not going to be released for the pc , surprise!!!!

I thought RE5 'alternate edition' was gonna use the new motion controllers? Am I misinformed or is this a hint at when we can expect full motion control?

Expect the PS3 wand around March or early Q2 2010.

I can confirm this, as I just sauntered over there and retrieved my own key. The only caveat is that I'd recommend a good junk email account.

The DLC is on the disc for the PS3 version, but not for the 360 version? That sucks for 360 owners who don't have Internet access... and is kinda odd, actually...

I don't see how that's odd considering Bluray holds more data.

I would think Capcom would put the DLC on a second disc on 360. I think a lot of people who pick up these re-releases are those who don't have Internet access, don't have a hard drive on their 360, etc.

I could see why Capcom made it a DLC. It would cost Capcom more money to make an extra disc, move and duplicate data to second disc while trying to fit in the costumes onto the first disc. Plus, it would be a whole lot cheaper for Capcom and slow down used game sales. Now, 360 owners who purchase resident evil 5 used will be force to buy the dlc if they want the gold edition which in turns more money for Capcom.
On the PS3, they have no excuse why it couldn't fit into a Bluray and it would promote the usage of the ps3 wand which they seem to be so happy about.

Agreed - all this has done is encourage people who only post to win stuff to fill the comments with useless garbage.

I agree, but must admit that I'm a little jealous of the PS3 owners who get to try out the motion control version (if it's good). Now I'm forced with the question of selling my Xbox version and getting the PS3 version with motion control without knowing if it'll be worth it. Ah, such is life.

Hardly. A step down from the previous, sure, but not the worst.

i need to go back through RE5, only beat it once then i completely forgot about it lol. but this alternative edition looks neat.
But in a few months they might release something with even more content, kind like what nintendo does...

So wait... half naked Chris is actually a part of the DLC? I thought the first time I saw that pic of him with Librarian Sheva that it was a mod of the PC version....
