Great news. Some good arcade titles as of late in the DotW. Got NHL this week, will pick up Peggle next week (will probably take a pass on Death Tank though) and now this. If Microsoft wants more of my moon dollars spent then they need to keep putting up Arcade titles. Hoping for Kingdom for Keflings and Mega Man 9 at some point.

I've had this game on so many systems that getting it on XBLA for a whole $2 more at full price is nothing compared to how much I've *actually* spent on Sonic the Hedgehog 2 over the years.

My 2 cents:

Emulated games of the past are NOT worth the price of today's games. Games today are developed and sold for $5... I'm not going to pay the same $5 for a game that was developed 10 years ago and made it's money back 100 fold.

Sonic was great for its time (as was Mario World, Day of the Tentacle, etc.) but these damn companies are selling the same damn game from 10 years ago for the same price as games made today...

Go f**k yourself. Update them, put some development time in them... and THEN ask me to pay you some money.

That's like selling a brand new 1985 Accord for the same price as a brand new 2009 Accord... I don't f**cking think so.

BOTTOM LINE: Sell 10 emulated games for $5, 25 for $10. People who buy these old games are spending $5 per game for a memory... a misconstrued memory at that.

Yeah, and what's with companies re-releasing movies on DVD and Blu-Ray?

pff

The movie hasn't changed and I still have my VCR, why bother getting it again?

OH RIGHT

+1

I got Sonic 1, 2, 3, & Knuckles and all the other ones that came in that pack, PLUS altered beast for next to nothing. I don't know why you wouldn't just get all of them and play them through to see the evolution of Sonic.

Yeah, I'm a nerd that did a Sonic marathon. What of it?

"why anyone would ever buy it for xbla I don't know why"

Simple; the ability to play as Knuckles in Sonic 2 (and also Sonic 3).

That alone (to me) is worth the cost of getting it on XBLA vs the Collection disc.

Convenience, Achievements, Online Leaderboards, Online VS Multiplayer.

Atleast that's what I guess. =/

Movies and games are NOT the same, that's not apples to apples like automobiles which is technology driven.

And when they re-release movies, YES, they are updated to take advantage of the newer format, smart-ass. So my point is, games should be TO.

This is a good lesson for you - If you're going to disagree and be a smart-ass about it, at least be RIGHT instead of wrong and looking like a dipshit... like you do now.

The disparity between movies and games lessens more and more. In this context, I brought it up as an example of media and a device that plays the particular media.

Also, I wasn't talking about formatting or quality, but rather, the content itself is the same (i.e. straight port). But what I was intending to say, is that not everyone has the old devices to play the old games so even if when they release old games on new devices with no changes, it's still new and becomes accessible to SOMEbody (again, it is on this note that this 'idea' is the same for movies). New prospective gamers are born each day.

Lastly, to some extent, Sonic 2 actually did have some graphical updates via smoothing for HD display, as well as basic online multiplayer and leaderboards. It's nothing to boast about, but it is there.

Ok, fair enough. I see where you're coming from but I still think it's dangerous to allow a precedent to be set where a game developed over a decade ago can demand the same price as a game developed today.

Unlike movies, which while they may have better sound or even clarity compared to those of a decade ago, video games are significantly different from their predecessors of a decade ago. And I understand it's the "content" but lets be realistic here, games do not compare to movies and music because movies and music are, to an extent, are mass cultural whereas games are still very niche (granted, this is a very interesting topic that professional discuss everyday)

Developers should've already covered their costs of development and gained optimal revenue from said title when they originally released it. Now they're trying to continue getting revenue just like movies and music... and they shouldn't, IMO, because they just aren't up to par.

Honestly, does Phil Colins "In the Air Tonight" really need a sequel to improve on sound clarity or performance enhancements?

But, playing devil's advocate, it's fair to say that those $50 titles are only $5 today. It's just that $5 titles developed today are MUCH better than even $80 titiles of a decade ago.

I guess relativity is getting the best of me... damn that Einstein!!

And I recant my previous slanders towards you, I'm sorry.

's alright. I knowingly poked a bee's nest. And I don't deny being a bit of a smart-ass for comic effect.

But yes, I think with games being as big a part of my life as they are that I do not see them as being any different than movies and music, and often forget that it actually puts me in a minority viewpoint; not everyone plays games.

As for pricing *shrug*. Nostalgia can often blind a consumer and make price irrelevant; to a point. But hey, considering they dropped the price of a $5 game down to $3, I would say you're right. Maybe their sales at $5 weren't quite up to snuff.
