@ Chris:

Sony must've been reading my mind yesterday because I commented in the PS3 firmware release over on engadget that Sony should have a non-game app store: http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/18/ps3-firmware-3-10-released-with-facebook-support-richer-troll/

The thing is that a few replies I got thought I was basically an idiot for suggesting this...

its a ballsy move on their part if it comes to fruition.....I mean what will they allow to be there and what will they cut off? Only time will tell....

I personally think its a great idea--I mean its paid off for Apple and AT&T.

I'm curious though to see how closed they keep the app development since I'm sure that any 3rd party program development could cause potential security holes in the PS OS, but so far it doesn't seem to be a problem for the iphone.

What I would love would be a mozilla made firefox browser... But I'm thinking its just wishful thinking on my end.

I hope this will get microsoft to get their rolling a little faster. Although the current apps on it are pretty well done, I only really use last.fm.

We need more app's out there that launch immediately, like the occasional extra's Xbox LIVE house, and the speed at which Twitter launches on it.

If PS3's Home, photo gallery and life launched immediately, maybe they'd be worth a damn.

Is anyone else having problems with the GoW3 demo voucher included in the GoW: collection? psn keeps telling me that my code is invalid and after trying different ways of writing it gives me an error. I was kinda looking forward to playing it...

Either you bought the game from a different region and in that case you have to create an account of that region (PS3 games aren't region locked, DLC/PSN codes unfortunately are, I learned it the hard way...) OR I don't know. Return the voucher to the store and demand a new one? :/

Its already been discussed. Sony basically said PSN will be free but they will have some services (Streaming video, Renting games from the PSN) that will require a subscription

Sorry, I'm going to break the off-topic trend by saying this is great news, I think. Anything that gives me more stuff on my PSP or PS3 would be awesome. I'd really love it if Skype comes to the PS3, so I could use my camera as a video chat with people outside of PSN.

Forget native youtube app..someone needs to get Ninjavideo running on the PS3, they recently added hd! Its a shame its marketed as such a great piece of hardware but still can't do this.

I hate contests that take place when I have to be at work.

In any case, Sony better not get charge-happy.

The only problem I see with this is that probably the apps I want for my psp would never be allowed into the PSN service and for that I mean emulators for old systems like the Mega Drive (Genesis for those on the States) I've got on the attic.
