The Witcher 2 being developed on multi-platform engine; CD Projekt seeking publisher
Bilingual Polish gaming news site Polygamia recently did us English-speakers a great kindness by attending a CD Projekt presentation on The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, translating its findings into our native tongue. According to Polygamia, CD Projekt's Michał Kiciński and Marcin Iwiński revealed that the RPG is being developed using an "internal, multi-platform engine," which they hope will become "the vanguard among game engines, and especially RPG engines."
CD Projekt's goals for the title are as lofty as you might expect -- the team claimed the The Witcher 2 will handily net an "over 90% score at Metacritic." However, before that happens, the game has to get made. The two developers explained that the studio is currently in talks with publishers and hoped to finalize distribution plans by Q1 2010.
Additionally, some footage managed to leak out of the closed presentation, which we've posted after the jump. However, unless you're a diehard fan of the first Witcher, we recommend skipping it, lest you be forced to suffer seven minutes of severe thoracic discomfort. You'll see what we mean.

Well, why not the Odyssey Engine? It's a bit old, sure, but the games that used it were the best!

I hope this game is amazing, because I feel spoiled by Dragon Age (the game that knocked The Witcher from its spot as my favorite RPG). It will certainly be nice to have 2 medieval-fantasy RPGs of such high quality though. =)

I feel spoiled by The Witcher when I play DA.
The Witcher looks massively better. The environment textures, controls and camera are terrible in DA compared to The Witcher.

Wasn't this canceled for consoles already? Or was that something different? It was called Rise of the White Wolf or something right? I thought that was Witcher 2

No, that was a console remaker of Witcher 1.

I'd buy it. The first one was actually pretty fun.

I'm curious if the PC/console versions will use the same battle system as the first game. The canned console port of The Witcher 1 was to use a fully real-time battle system like an action game.

I love how the second the presenter says "no filming, please", the guy just tips the camera on the side and keeps going.
Class!

The first one was my favorite RPG this decade.
This one looks so boss for sure. The 2 things it needed (a better combat system and mega huge monsters) are in here! Nice.

According to rpgcodex.net, The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf will still be made, though it may come after The Witcher 2. Hope that port comes to the PC, as I'd like to see the game with a fully real-time battle system.

I never played the first Witcher, should I pick it up before this new one comes out?
monkeyroach @ Nov 19th 2009 8:18PM
first game is a must play for rpg fans

There are some very unique things in The Witcher that definitely make it a great game to play through. The alchemy system and mutagens were very cool.

@RKN
Yes, Rise of the White Wolf is only suspended, which RPG Codex actually got from the very same Polygamia article this post is based on, and which is linked from here. :)

The PC fanboy in me doesn't want Witcher 2 to come to consoles, nor Crysis 2. : (

I hope they pace things out a little better in this one. My only beef with the first one was how you could gain almost every skill before the game really went anywhere story-wise.
