"Playstation forums"
"commenters on PlayStation.Blog"

That automatically makes this article invalid

Yeah, I suspect that most of those users are the same guy.
Back during fw 3.0, there were several new users that were saying the same thing on their first posts.

These are the places that we have to compare and report our problems. How do these resources make the article invalid? How else do you think these things are found and reported? That's a very odd post you have made.

FYI - I am waiting on the UPS man to drop mine on the porch. For my sake(having a launch 60GB) I hope it IS just a blog and forum conspiracy.

No, it's not 360 fanboys (I'm sure some of them are), it's just that they are always finding something to bitch about no matter what it is, for right now they are just complaining because they didn't get their precious cross game chat.

The thing is that anyone can create an account on the forum/blog, without a serial number or any proof of console ownership.
A group of dedicated fanboys (or 1 lone avenger) could cause any company to spend time & resources on a nonexistent problem, while discouraging potential customers.
Whatever.

Thank you. Seriously Joystiq, you guys need to stop combing the forums for article ideas. Anytime anything new comes out there is always thread on "XYZ broke my PS3!!!!". That doesn't warrant a story on a reputable blog.

That's the problem, you can't tell if these complaints are legitimate or the work of 360 fanboys.

Protip: Everytime a problem is reported with the PS3, it's just 360 fanboy's making stuff up.

Gotcha!

To be fair, the official forums is exactly where the average person would go to complain about an issue. So the problem is almost certainly real. But you always have to keep in mind that those without a problem usually don't post so issues have a way of appearing exaggerated online.

Vidkron, no, the average person wouldn't go on forums and say shit like "FW x.xx bricked my PS3, fire Eric lempell!" They would just contact Sony.

I'm not saying the problem doesn't exist, just that it's most likely a very small minority of users.

I was the first one to complain about the freezing issue on the playstation blog (psn id GreySpot). Not sure why people are accusing me and others of lying. I have never owned an xbox and never intend to. I complained about the batman freezes a couple months ago on the eidos forums, and now that I see it with GoW collection, I'm complaining on the sony site. I've owned my ps3 since launch day and have only seen the problem in these 2 games (though PoP froze twice too). Since it looks like the freezing happens to the launch 60GB model, I decided to return my ps3 (thanks costco :) ), and I'm awaiting my new slim. I hope the problem isn't widespread. At least Sony knows about it and can fix it.

inFamous freezed a couple times on me, and I own a 40GB PS3. It just happens, I guess... :/
I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the hardware differences between PS3s.

@Prof. Von Manifest

If you're not having the freeze issue, I'm happy for you. It's pretty obvious that this isn't a widespread issue, even among 60GB owners. Not sure why some posters believe this is some conspiracy to put down the PS3. There IS a freezing issue some users are experiencing with GoW. We are bringing it up in hopes of having a fix from Sony. It's not fun buying a game only to find that it doesn't work on your system.

Seems so, and yet the irony is that the actual PS2 versions run perfectly on BC-enabled PS3s.

I'm sure they'll fix this soon, I can imagine it sucks the finest of balls.

Then I see the PS2 sitting across the shelf, with Component cables, and I forget about it.

@R (Planeteers | Power of Penile Pulse)

The fricken' GameCube had component cables (I've got some). I'd be surprised that the PS2 didnt. Even after that "Special Less-Jaggies" hardware revision.

As a matter of fact, the official Sony component cables for the PS2 are the exact same ones as the PS3.

And yeah Bradwart, I'm the same way...I got an 80GB PS3 for its BC, and guess how many PS2 games I played? 2...they were called God of something, and they looked like shit so I stopped trying. I still have a PS2 Skinny in my entertainment center; that's plenty of BC for me.

Hmmm I have a launch 60 gig and have had ZERO problems playing the game. It's working out quite well. Of course there's not going to be much play time on it since AC2 is eating up all my time and attention! LOL

It's only ironic to people who are too dumb to realize that this is a fully ported game and it doesn't care whether you're console is backwards compatible or not. It probably has more to do with the age of the console than anything else.

Same here, I have a 40gb and I've had no issues yet. I'm looking for pandora's box right now, so far so good. Now playing borderlands last night online with a friend, we did have a glitch with an arena match on the 3rd mission. Everyone was dead but it didn't clear us for the mission, my friend actually had to grenade himself so he'd die and open the doors. Didn't glitch when we did it again though!

I'm no Sony fanboy, but one console generation of small mistakes does not a fuck up make. Using that logic both Xboxes are miserable failures and Nintendo hasn't been a "big boy" since the SNES.
