ModNation Racers races back into view with new trailer
Here's yet another trailer for the game, which provides an overview of all the major components of ModNation Racers. First you must create a character, then a car -- and if you're feeling creative enough, you can attempt to make your very own track. It looks sleek, but we'll definitely be reserving our judgment until we can get our hands on the beta.
Check out a fast-forwarded look at character creation, after the break.

Character creation looks cool.
Love the idea of this game
TypeF @ Nov 20th 2009 7:12PM
why am i not intrested like i was with little big planet? hmmm
phinnvr6 @ Nov 20th 2009 7:18PM
Mario Kart meets LittleBigPlanet... Love the concept. Sony should get some of their known characters into the game like Kratos, Drake, and Sackboy...
Anyway whats up with Joystiq's flash videos not working today? The problem is definitely not me have no problems on any other site.

Maybe 'cause the fact that it's a kart racer meaning less possibilities, or the art style, 'cause I'm on the same boat as you. I remember when they were showing LBP at GDC I was already thinking of things I wanted to make, not for this though. Also, don't reply to the first comment unless you are directing at that comment. It's annoying as hell.
phinnvr6 @ Nov 20th 2009 7:20PM
weird never mind refreshed the page and the video game up.
Alton Brown (Now With Mystic Eyes of Death Perception!) @ Nov 20th 2009 7:04PM
This is a Media Molecule game, right?
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Nov 20th 2009 7:08PM
No.
Mr Khan @ Nov 20th 2009 7:09PM
United Front, i believe.
Alton Brown (Now With Mystic Eyes of Death Perception!) @ Nov 20th 2009 7:09PM
For some reason, I thought MM was doing this. Thanks, guys.
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Nov 20th 2009 7:12PM
Media Molecule is too busy with LBP for a new game.
jahd5000 @ Nov 20th 2009 7:15PM
For some reason.... yeah, i wonder what on hell made you believe that
johnnynumber5 @ Nov 20th 2009 7:16PM
It's the genre that Media Molecule created with the tagline "Play, Create & Share" and the guys from United Front said they were heavily influenced by Media Molecule but other than that there isn't a connection.
Alton Brown (Now With Mystic Eyes of Death Perception!) @ Nov 20th 2009 7:18PM
Well, beyond the obvious parallels (track/level creation and such), the overall aesthetic reminds me of LBP.
Awetoebawt @ Nov 20th 2009 7:34PM
When I first saw this game, I thought that too. Imagine how cool it would be to import custom sackboys!
Mr Khan @ Nov 20th 2009 7:10PM
I wondered when we were going to hear about this.
I'm happy 2010 is just around the corner. Means the semester is almost over
Alton Brown (Now With Mystic Eyes of Death Perception!) @ Nov 20th 2009 7:14PM
Tell me about it. Term papers are the bane of my existence.
johnnynumber5 @ Nov 20th 2009 7:18PM
You guys just enjoy it while your still young and you don't have responsibilities like a mortgage payment, pets, kids, yard etc etc ... I know it seems overwhelming at times but it really should be some of the best times of your life. You obviously can't party all the time but you also have to make time to do things you will never be able to do again.
Alton Brown (Now With Mystic Eyes of Death Perception!) @ Nov 20th 2009 7:21PM
I love college, but writing 15 pages on fullerenes takes a lot out of you.
johnnynumber5 @ Nov 20th 2009 7:22PM
Better than 15 pages of TPS reports!
Mr Khan @ Nov 20th 2009 7:28PM
~20 pages on the merit of the term "rogue states" in foreign policy, and ~10 on the meaning of the sexual offenses in the book of Leviticus
finnith @ Nov 20th 2009 8:20PM
Better than an entire business plan.
Sly @ Nov 20th 2009 8:31PM
i have to analyze plato's apology of socrates (apology as in defense, as in law) and answer around 100 very deep questions or so in paragraphs of at least 4 sentences. over the break.
did i mention that this isn't even college level work? it's a freshman/sophomore level class at my high school. i'm definitely not looking forward to college with this kind of work.
Marius Returns @ Nov 20th 2009 7:11PM
Any word on the Beta?
Alton Brown (Now With Mystic Eyes of Death Perception!) @ Nov 20th 2009 7:14PM
December 9th, I believe.
Kinsey @ Nov 21st 2009 5:18AM
I was just gonna ask this.
Now I just hope i still have my beta key somewhere.
brian @ Nov 20th 2009 7:12PM
am i the only one viddler has stopped working for?
or w/e is used for this video
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Nov 20th 2009 7:14PM
Not working for me either, though I'm on my PS3.
jahd5000 @ Nov 20th 2009 7:16PM
i had to refresh thrice
johnnynumber5 @ Nov 20th 2009 7:19PM
The video worked for me but generally speaking Viddler is buggy as hell and usually choppy when playing videos.
Fu22y_Pumper @ Nov 20th 2009 8:54PM
dont know bout viddler but vids on this site havent worked for me since the new fw update gametrailers wont load n freezes but youtube works fine (on the ps3 browser)
Hyams @ Nov 20th 2009 7:12PM
Really looking forward to this. I love Kart Racers, and I love level creation/sharing, so this'll be like the perfect game for me.
Well, it'll be perfect if that get 4-player splitscreen in there, anyway. I hear they're working on it.
johnnynumber5 @ Nov 20th 2009 7:14PM
Can't wait for this game! It's like Sony's version of Mario kart + the creation aspect of Little Big Planet and then a little extra. I'm so hopeful this game exceeds the hype for me like Little Big Planet did when it released.
Markez @ Nov 20th 2009 7:23PM
I think I lost the Beta code that came with LBP :( Too bad they pushed the beta back so damn far otherwise I coulda entered it when I got the game.
Finito (PSN: Wretched_Walrus) @ Nov 20th 2009 7:23PM
I like the creativity and what seems to be an easier tool set compared to LBP, but I'm curious if the devs themselves can deliver a satisfying campaign with enough memorable tracks. A lot of the fun of Mario Kart are the wacky and varied tracks, it won't be easy for a new dev to match that.
Sheppy (of the Fidlious Clan of Wong) @ Nov 20th 2009 9:34PM
Surpassing Mario Kart 64 or DS might be hard as hell to accomplish, agreed. But Double Dash and Wii set the bar pretty low. Sadly, even with a bar set so low, most kart racers can't even get over that hump. But at least if you don't like the pack-in levels, you can hunt up custom ones online. And even if this game is "as good as" Kart Wii, that's still better that 99% of the kart racers (CTR on PSX still sits pretty high).
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 20th 2009 7:33PM
I never upgraded my kart racer from Super Mario Kart...but I'll have to make the jump to this one.
rickjamess04 @ Nov 20th 2009 10:13PM
I've already decided I'm going to somehow create a racetrack recreating the attack on the deathstar just for you.
PSN: Erdie (Now equipped with Wii!) @ Nov 20th 2009 7:40PM
I hope it's good. Mario Kart Wii left a bad taste in my mouth.
johnnynumber5 @ Nov 20th 2009 7:44PM
Same here. My kids love it to pieces but for me it was a step backwards compared to double dash.
MrAlex @ Nov 20th 2009 8:03PM
I didn't really like double dash or MK wii, I just felt like 64 got it right, everything else was just imperfecting it.
Hyams @ Nov 20th 2009 8:13PM
Blue shells are the bane of my existence.
Sly @ Nov 20th 2009 8:32PM
i liked double dash. wii is fun, but inferior to DD IMO.
Joey @ Nov 20th 2009 7:48PM
This god damn piece of shit isn't fucking loading. D: WHYYYYYYYYYY
Hyams @ Nov 20th 2009 8:14PM
The only way to fix it is to swear at it more.
Ready? Go.
Ashitaka @ Nov 20th 2009 8:38PM
I'm probably the only one who played this game... But I really hope that ModNation Racers turns out to be like Lego Racers, the best "kart" racing game of my youth :D
Hyams @ Nov 20th 2009 9:09PM
I had Lego Racers. It sucked so bad that whenever I played it, it temporarily created an alternate universe, one in which sugar was good for your teeth, blue was pink, and rainbows could talk (they never had anything interesting to say though).
Ashitaka @ Nov 20th 2009 9:39PM
Really? You thought it was that bad? xD
Oh well, I guess you can't please everybody. I see I'm not the only one who played it but I'm guessing me and my brother are the only ones who enjoyed it. It was one of the few games we had that had split screen, we could construct our own cars (although that was kinda limited. Still, it was this feature that made me remember the game when I saw ModNation Racers...) and we were really into Legos at the time, so yeah, we liked it...
How about Muppet Race Mania for the PS1? I liked that game too!
The thing is, I never played a single race of -any- Mario Kart. Ever. Maybe my standards are just too low.
Hyams @ Nov 20th 2009 10:16PM
Crash Team Racing on the PS1 is the best. Go download it off the PSN store now.
extremus @ Nov 20th 2009 11:09PM
Well, that's platforming and racing down. Anyone else think we'll eventually see a "create your own" first person shooter or RPG/SRPG of this ilk? I admit the possibilities are nice to think about.
xddga @ Nov 20th 2009 11:38PM
I've been hoping for the next iteration of RPG Maker since the ps3 came out. Seriously hope they do it (and allow for massive customization of the game). Was hooked on RPG Maker 2 for the ps2, but since it was really hard to share games, it wasn't really worth making anything. Had some really cool ideas too....
But yeah, can't wait for this game. Even if it isn't on par w/ Mario Kart (any of 'em), right out of the box, give it a month and it'll be a different story. Considering how good some of the LBP levels are and what people have been able to create, I'm willing to bet this game will end up far better then my beloved MK:DD.
