Rock Band Weekly: Tom Petty, Go-Go's, Kelly Clarkson, Pink

A live version of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' "Mary Jane's Last Dance" is available next week within the band's Rock Band DLC six-pack. The song may not be everyone's cup of formaldehyde, but it's certainly memorable for conjuring up one of the creepiest music videos of all time. We have no idea what the song is actually about, but it will always be the story of Tom Petty stealing Kim Basinger's corpse from the morgue, dressing her up, and then at the end .... AHHhhHhHHHH!

Man, live versions? Pass. I'd vastly prefer the studio version.

Keep in mind that they too would most likely also prefer the studio version, but the master may not exist anymore. Be happy you a get a version of it at all.

But how can you pass up on the LIFE version?!?!?

Just a heads up, but most of the Petty tracks are also playable in LEGO. I think of the six, only "American Girl" and "Mary Jane's Last Dance" won't be playable in it.

Kelly Clarkson? I don't remember the song being instrumental heavy. But variety, yay?

"Miss Independent" isn't too heavy instrument wise, but on vocals it'll be a bit of a challenge.

But stuff like "Behind These Hazel Eyes", "Since U Been Gone", "I Do Not Hook Up", and "My Life Would Suck Without You" have some pretty solid instrumental parts.

They probably are toeing the waters with Clarkson by putting her first big single out there.

well "T" I would def buy the one you mentioned, but not this one being released.

Seems like an attempt by Harmonix to detract from sales of Band Hero...I didn't realize BH was that much of a concern.

Anyway, I prefer the studio versions also, but I've waited so long for Mary Jane's Last Dance in Rock Band that I'll have to settle for the live version.

There really needs to be a "mature" version of Rock Band so we can have songs like "U + Ur Hand," "Killing in the Name," and countless other songs with "dirty" words and "mature" themes. I mean...the kids have their version now. What about the grown folks?

For the record i don't listen to metal. Some of my favorite bands are Talkind Heads, New Order, Radiohead, Mew, Broken Social Sean, Blur, Flaming Lips, NIN, Sonic Youth, Pavement, Phoenix...so and so on.

Wonder if the "Last Dance With Mary Jane" will have the same charting as "Dani California"
