I actually do visit the PSN Store on a daily basis...

I saw Sony is expecting to push 14 million PS3's this year as well. Those new consoles=more revenue on the Store.

Why do you visit it every day? It only updates once a week...

Some movie rentals, sometimes I just browse.

I guess it's not EVERY day. About four or five times a week, though.

Yeah, I guess I visit it a lot too. It's kinda like if you're hungry for something and you open the fridge, but there's nothing in there you want, but you still check fifteen minutes later knowing there is not gonna be anything new.

Nice to see them making money from the 'loss' they made on each PS3.

More money=more awesome games, gamers on all formats have been treated recently, aside from the Wii, unless you are Ant and Dec.

This subscription service is just not a good idea for consumers. Always beware when huge companies float trial balloons to the public about their intentions to start vaguely "offering premium content and services." But again, most people fail to read between the lines and blindly trust PR speak from a giant company that views consumers as sheep that need herded in the right direction. These kinds of initiatives start out innocuously enough. However, slowly but surely unwanted conditions creep in over time until the consumers can (only in hindsight) realize the faults made by the naivety of the collective, but they have no way to stop it.

This is what a truthful Sony-subscription press release would say:
For the next fiscal year, Sony is counting on preying upon some true idiots that cannot wait to relieve themselves of their personal disposable income to be test subjects for a recurring subscription to borderline-worthless piecemeal "premium services" in order to gain an additional revenue stream to further subsidize the costs of operating an already-profitable free worldwide online service.

These premium subscription services are additional revenue streams not for accessing the network. Something like an MMO, movie subscription service, digital comic book subscription service etc etc.

Kaz Hirai says as much point blank following up on the erroneous reports that it meant Sony would charge for online gameplay access.

I cannot see how going to the PS3 Store equate to actually making a sell. I go to the store but I have purchased only one game in the 3 years that I have had my PS3. Just because more people have purchased the PS3 also doesn't equate to more sells from PSN. From the friends I know that have purchased the PS3, none of them has made one purchase since the bought their unit.

You and your friends are the minority then, I on the other hand am always buying, and because I am, I tend to convince my mates to buy the same games as me to experience the same fun as me, alternativly, they convince me.

Think about what your saying: "Just because more people have purchased the PS3 also doesn't equate to more sells from PSN." Of course it means more sales on PSN. The more people who own a PS3 are more people who have access to content. If 13 million more people own a PS3 thats 13 million additional streams of revenue. Just because you and your small group of friends hasn't bought anything doesn't mean the rest of the user base follows that lead. In contrast to you, only having bought 1 thing in 3 years, I've probably purchased over 100 pieces of content be it dynamic themes, movies, tv shows, downloadable games, downloadable content, PS1 classics and even PSP games. I typically buy at least 2 downloadable games a month on the service and sometimes as many as 2 a week.

if sony does go through with the subscription thing (obviously attempting to repeat the success of XBox Live), then the Wii really does win.

Not sure why Joystiq hasn't posted an update with the clarification from Sony where they states that the PSN as you know it to play g ames will remain free.

Sony has been making the move to preimum content for awhile now. You have Qore, Home and Premium Themes. It only makes sense to expand on those money making services. Lets be honest, most decisions weather it benefits the user or not are made with money in mind. Sony is a business so every decisions that wins for you is something they have decided also wins for them in another capacity. I highly doubt that Sony does anything out of the generosity of their corporate heart but instead it's a means to a certain end.

They are stupid. If only they let the rest of us Europeans access the Playstation store as opposed to the select few countries they currently allow, that number would shoot up by at least a couple of millions.

As a current PS3 owner, I am really looking forward to an application store from Sony. This seems like a good plan. We all of us the PS3 owners have subscription of Qore so far and of course PS Home. Now, it would be pretty awesome to add applications from third party companies. Why not? PSN: XxTheDarkness-xX....any MW2 rivals are welcomed :) No worries I'm no douchbag.

Joystiq covered this a few days ago ... The Saboteur is being moved to EA Montreal (Army of Two team) and will release as scheduled. The properties that Pandemic made (Mercenaries etc) will all still live on according to EA.

If they ever made trial versions avaialable for every game on PSN Marketplace like XBOX Live Arcade does.....they would make more sales.

I have purchased tons on XBL Arcade based on the trial versions alone.....but only about a handful on PSN as you don't get to try before you buy for 90% of the games.

You figured SONY would figure out this basic thing after a couple years....but then again...the whole PSN seems to be a work in progress.......

I still can't get reliable voice chat in a game and I have FIOS.

I think the fundamental difference between the services is that MS charges consumers for the bandwidth that developers and publishers use and Sony charges developers/publisher for the bandwidth they use. As such, to put a demo of a game out said company would have to pay a bandwidth charge on PSN for each demo someone downloaded and it hasn't been proven conclusively that demos move more games. I remember reading elsewhere that

It seems to me this is a big miss step for Sony. They started out saying their service is free, but if they are going to start charging it will be like Xbox Live and perhaps not as good as Xbox.

If they only charge for certain things, why not just charge for everything, right? Sorry Xbox from day one said we are charging and they are doing fine, Sony is horrible for flip flopping. I say Sony is playing catch up to Xbox and not in a good way.

As for the Wii winning, their service might still be free but does any one know how to add friends? of have a online community? Sure the new feed channel and shop are ok but as far as design goes its pretty lackluster.

I say Xbox has online anything in the bag. From online community to store shopping with demos and trials.
