Refering to me Personaly. That is my reaction to Sony expecting any kind of loyalty.

What have they done with their customer loyalty?
DRM? rootkits that disable computers?
The PSP Go?
Products from many divisions that are outclassed by the competition?

they don't deserve loyalty. I mock the concept.

Really Long Name,

Yeah, that's the thing- Sony products are typically not competitive in price or quality. So why should any consumer be loyal to them? You're argument is basically that Americans aren't Sony tools as much as Japanese or Europeans as we do a better job at being informed consumers and purchasing the best product for the money. What point are you trying to make?

I'd like to think the rootkit fiasco cost them.

It probably didn't, but it should have.

Sony has an arrogance second only to Apple.

The fanboy shit in this thread is ridiculous. MS Fanboys chill out, Sony is NOT copying MS in anyway, in fact they WOULD be the first to do something of this magnitude because they are the only ones who can! They have a Music company, Film company, They make TV's, A/V Receivers, E-Book readers, Speakers, MP3 players, computers and video games. No company has the power to merge a unified network across so many digital electronics.

Now if they are copying anyone its Apple with their unified iTunes across all their products, and its worked wonderful for Apple I might add.

Anyways why am I having a Business Management/Technology debate on a video game blog? Can we just stick to the games, acknowledge what it brings to games/gaming then move on...everything doesn't have to be a pissing contest.

This is probably a good plan for Sony considering the fact that brand loyalty seems to be the only thing keeping them afloat.

"Sony" and "brand loyalty" shouldn't even be in the same sentence.

Sony has never gotten the concept. They still seem to think brand loyalty is the same as tying a chain around your user's necks and bolting them to your product.

Apparently they still haven't.

Some people can't seem to get the simple concept that the harder you force people to do things, the less likely they will be willing to do them.
