Star Trek Online may launch on Stardate 63554.5 (February 2, 2010), but beginning January 12, fans can beam into the open beta. The intergalactic guinea pig session will take place from January 12 until January 26. Players interested in kicking the warp nacelles should head on over to startrekonline.com to enroll.

Somehow, I bet that everytime my ship gets hit with a photon torpedo, it'll either be "warp core offline, Captain!" or "Main energizer hit, Captain!"

I'm totally on the fence with STO. While the space stuff looks great and apparently plays great, everything I see that doesn't involve the actual ships just looks mediocre.
The gameplay vids with you running'n'gunning just made me step away slowly. Doesn't help that outside of space the game seems to lack a distinctive natural art style... a lot of the character models looks like those cheesy renderings you see on video card boxes.
Ugh, so hoping Cryptic doesn't blow this.

Red is also the colour that command officers (ie. admirals, captains, first officers, and helmsman) wear, too.
