Gamespot is reporting that Nintendo revealed to them that a few oft-requested classic titles will be added to the Virtual Console within the coming weeks. According to the report, the festivities will kick off this coming Monday, when Super Mario Kart (which has been available in Japan for approximately forever) will be added to the storefront for the standard price of 800 Wii Points ($8).
Later in the holiday season, Nintendo will also reportedly drop the original Pilotwings onto the platform, then shortly after that, will also toss Super Smash Bros. into the mix. No prices have been announced for these two titles, but according to the Gamespot article, both will be released by the end of the year. That's just great. It's not like we're already drowning in huge, time-draining blockbusters. Now we've got to start perfecting our drifting and shell-flinging once again. We appreciate the gesture, Nintendo -- but your timing is rotten.

To me, these three games are better than almost anything out on the Wii. Pilot Wings is the shit.

We've already got Super Smash Bros. here in New Zealand (so I'm not sure who else has it. Most likely Australia, and perhaps the UK and some of Europe). I'm not that excited about Super Mario Kart, but hey, it'd still be fun to play. Pilotwings, I have no idea what that is. Or not much of one anyway.

Interesting, never thought I'd see another game emulated with another chip (besides the SA-1) and now we have a DSP1 game! Next we need a game with the SuperFX chip, you know Yoshi's Island or Star Fox. Hey, how about forget about the special chips and release Earthbound, since that's been on the ESRB list for, oh I dunno, well over a year and a half? No? Seems they're releasing a new version of Snes9x Wii soon, so, perhaps I'll resort to doing that....I mean again. It's almost as if Nintendo is provoking its fans to resort to using HBC. After all, they're still holding off on the RPGs, right? So, my doing so is completely justified as far as I'm concerned. But one thing's for sure, I'm actually glad to see some good games being released on the VC for a change (Mario Kart and Pilotwings). C'mon Nintendo, just a little further!

As far as RPGS go, I imagine SE (who, for my money, had the best 8/16 bit RPGS) is holding on to their older properties and simply not doing anything with them (see: Chrono Trigger), which sucks. As far as Earthbound goes, see my above post.

Pop culture references being an issue? I thought that was just a rumor? Well, if it is, I'll "have" to resort to emulation.

I'm still waiting for Yoshi's Island. C'mon already!

That's cool - it's about time. But I hope they have or can modify SSB so that you can use the X or Y button to jump. It would be a huge pain to have to make every jump with the control stick (and downright impractical to attempt it with the C-stick).

People who are still excited about anything VC related should learn to emulator. That's all I'm saying.

Personally I have a hard time getting any N64 game to work correctly on an emulator for some reason.

About fucking time, Nintendo! Mario Kart SNES is one of the best games of all time and it took you three damn years to bring it to VC. For shame.
