Remember that silly, insane rumor from back in 2008 about Diablo 3 being released by Blizzard before StarCraft 2? Turns out that Blizzard's Rob Pardo thinks that's a bunch of hogwash. Rather, that's at least what we can infer from his recent conversation with Techland on the subject. "We always announce all of our games too early," he says. "I think it's safe to say that, yeah, [Diablo 3] is not going to be out next year."
Considering StarCraft 2's delay to 2010, we think it's fair to assume that Diablo 3 will in fact not be arriving before a StarCraft sequel. Pardo adds that it's not a question of lacking resources, as "each game has individual development teams; it's just that the way that we develop games, we develop them very iteratively." Worse yet, there doesn't seem to be a finish line in sight for D3. "Now when we announce [a game] we just go, 'Here's the game we're working on, we're going to start talking about it and who knows when it ships.'" If any of you were still holding your breath for Diablo 3's release, now might be a good time to exhale.

Wow. Hi, let me introduce you to my friend Blizzard since you've obviously never met before.
Honestly, anyone who is surprised or disappointed by this must have never waited for a Blizzard game to be released. Blizzard's policy is always to work on a game as long as they feel is necessary and, usually, that takes a few years. If you hear a rumored release date, add two years to it and assume it has no basis in reality.

I.. but.. dammit.. I mean it's just like Diablo 2 except prettier right? And some new levels? Should it really take this long? I don't exactly see any new groundbreaking game play (not that I'm complaining, I like that tried and true game play), I just don't see what could be taking so damn long.. I blame WoW. Damn that game .

Cool, nice semantics. I'm pretty sure it was obvious that I meant it was going to take a long time, and not that the release date has been pushed back.

Cool, a fine display of reply button use. Also, where you're coming from with your argument just doesn't make sense to come out with it in a whirlwind of bitchy rage. Why the hell are you angry at them for that? Did you sign a contract the declares you have dictatorship over the way they do shit, and always have done?
No, and they've never alluded to Diablo being a likely 2010 release as far as I know, only rumours(I'm Australian, that word is being spelt correctly Ameripeople. I love your movies and stuff sometimes, we should hang out).
So calm down, and let's all eat prawns and scorch hardened sausages. Or something. I forget what we were talking about in the first place, damn marijuana...*
**I am saddened at the amount of time I have just invested to arguing with the internet. This comes immediately to mind http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/duty_calls.png

Nothing like people who bitch about a game taking so long and if it comes out half-baked they bitch how it feels rushed and incomplete and bitch the developers robbed them and should release the rest of the game via patches then bitch about how long the patch is taking and then continue to bitch how Blizzard has shitty customer satisfaction only for the game to finally come out in a complete and balanced state and the bitchers suddenly STFU and go on to praise the game endlessly because the developers took their time to fine tune the game and come out with a highly polished and extremely fun product.
I mean, really, if the bitchers didn't bitch then the people who bitch about the bitchers bitching would be out of a job. Son of a bitch.
I guess people just think a game gets cooked up in 4 months and the rest of the time they're just dicking around? Yeah, nothing like having to balance numerous classes with numerous abilities, creating art assets, implementing assets, level design, voice work, storyboarding, re-recording any voice work, re-writes of the script to make it better/accessible/canon-sense, bug crunching, finalizing the backend and user interface, creating a multiplayer system and mating it to the existing infrastructure of battle.net, 3d modeling on a grand professional level, brainstorming new ideas and implementing them to make sure Diablo 3 is Diablo 3 and not just Diablo 2.5 etc. etc.

Calm down people ! Nothing is lost, We just need to find, "Who" and ask when its gonna release. Joystiq get on with it already !
P.S: I think its "Who" and NOT "Wu" as many think, cos "Wu" is a Starcraft player and would do anything to stop Diablo 3's release !!

sorry, but i stopped believing anything Blizzard had to say five years ago. anyone who's even remotely familiar with how they work should know better by now concerning release dates.
im guessing StarCraft 2 comes late 2010 or even sometime in 2011, either way i can't be bothered to give a shit anymore. there are just too many high-quality alternatives out there for me to waste my time wondering when Blizzard is going to 'save us from the bowels of gaming mediocrity with their end-all-be-all titles'.
as for Diablo 3? *laughing* that's not even on my radar. good luck holding your breath for that one.

Remember when there where websites dedicated to at least a solid rumor that Diablo 3 was in development. I remember the day when Diablofans.com had a big announcement that they where told by Blizzard that the name Diablo 3 was no longer available for use in public domain. That was HUGE news! The end of speculation.
Diablo 3 is coming. And that is a fact! be patient.

I get the sense that if they added multiplayer to Torchlight then the demand for diablo 3 would totally dry up.

Diablo 3: The first time period anyone will announce is late 3rd to early 4th Q 2011. It will be delayed to early 2012, then knowing Blizz possibly delayed once more to mid 2012.
Calling it.
Calling it.

I'm not surprised at all. I'm sure there's still a ton of work to be done to get up to their standards. As for people talking about patching stuff, I'd easily say they don't have the campaigns finished, or even anywheres close. I don't think anyone would be pleased to find out they bought it, but the last three acts of the campaign have to be patched in.
And of course Blizzard will patch what they mess up, but they're stll going to put the time in to make a damn good game first.
It's all about how blizzard makes their games, they get an idea, they program it, they test it, they tweak it, then they decide if it will work or get scrapped, then repeat. it's a long process, but you can't argue with their results.

I played D3 at BlizzCon in 2008 and 2009. It did improve in that years time but it still had a LONG ways to go. It just was not to the point where I could pick it up and it was fun. It seemed too boring and just no where near ready to hit the streets.
Starcraft 2 on the other hand... man, that was a blast to play this year. The missions were great. The graphics were wonderful. It's going to be a hell of a game.

I am ok with this, cause I want to see the mods, and maps the community makes for Torchlight. Runic has to give some DLC for that sweetness. I'm still working on my destroyer now. They put out some co-op maps for some loots, I guarantee there will be less crying about Diablo 3 not coming out next year.

Re: Torchlight
Anyone who was bitching and moaning about the art direction of D3, while simultaneously *enjoying* Torchlight, should go jump in a well. Torchlight is a close approximation, if not downright imitation, of the screenshots that Diablo "purists" have feverishly protesting and petitioning blizzard about.
As far as I'm concerned, the success of Torchlight has ended all arguments about the WoW-esque colorful reimagining of the Diablo franchise. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the very reason Blizzard hasn't gone after the "homage" is precisely because it has eased customer sentiment about their new engine. If anything, people will be much more accepting of the change now that they've had a chance to acclimate themselves to the idea that it doesn't have to suck.

It is no secret that Blizzard only releases titles when they are polished and ready. I am disappointed, but I can wait. What bothers me is that of late they seem their other IPs are delayed more because of WoW than anything else. I understand that WoW is a cash cow (I do play), but it would be nice if they had SC2 out earlier and not held up because of this behemoth. I have a feeling D3 is effected by WoW in some manner too. I think waiting a decade is asking too much for us fans...

Seriously people are annoyed by this? It's BLIZZARD. They take forever to make games, it's what they do, and when they are finished their games are amazing.
Sit back and enjoy the ride because you'll probably be waiting until at least 2013 (which you'd know already if you knew anything about the company your slamming)

I've played Diablo 2, but i never really got into it. I also remember the Diablo 3 article in PCGamer.
Honestly, I think Blizzard needs to at least try to get it out earlier than they're saying, and I'm sure it'd still be as good as everyone thinks or hopes it will be.
I'm sure if maybe they also had a little bit more info coming out, Examples like the Dante's Inferno marketing, devloper diaries, gameplay videos and stuff like that ,It might satiate alot of the hunger for it and show that they're putting development time into it. (I'm not comparing the two games, just the release of videos, marketing, et cetera)
Despite all that , i do think that they jumped the gun and announced it a bit too early. But that's a whole other discussion.

How is there no 'official release date' when you can pre-order it for 1st of January next year?
