Cruising the Twitters, as we are wont to do, we stumbled upon a revelation, courtesy of one Major Nelson. That revelation: Today is the fourth anniversary of the launch of the Xbox 360. Yes, just four years ago, on November 22, 2005, the Joystiq universe was just buzzing with excitement. There were freezing cold lines to wait in, boxes to open and new games to play -- in fantastic HD resmolutions! And then, of course, it began.

i bought my xbox at launch. ive sent it to microsoft 4 times to fix shit. it was retarded but whatever.

Um, wut? I thought XBox wasn't HDMI compatible on release day? Am I wrong? o.O

You can do 1080p over component as well, you just have to ensure your TV accepts 1080p via component. I ran mine that way for a while.

I thought that wasn't enabled until a later firmware update, though.

And it's a rare TV that accepts a 1080p signal over Component.

360 couldn't do 1080p over anything at the time. MS rolled it out later.

But not before first indicating that 1080p didn't really matter.

Then, suddenly once they had it, 1080p did matter again! So much so that they're soon going to brag about how they have 1080p movies.

Yeah, 1080p support was released in the October 31st, 2006 software update.

Guess I switched to 1080p after the update. I was the VGA cable after launch. And it's not that rare to 1080p over component, just depends on the brand. Many Samsungs will do it.

@Archon Some of the original setups didn't even have HDMI ports.

I am aware of the lack of HDMI outputs. I also vaguely remember console brickage after the HD dashbord update. I'm afraid I wasn't a XBox owner back then yet.

If I recall correctly the HDMI port for the 360 didn't exist until they launched the elite model, and it was sometime after that that they started adding it to the arcade and pro models.

So why was I downvoted again?
The first XBox 360 models did not sport a HDMI input after all.

Wow, 4 years ago if someone said 'RROD' to you then you would just carry on your day, now it's like a war cry for all fanboys.

to be fair, RROD on the new models are just as rare, if not rarer that the yellow light for the PS3

I know, ive had this 360 longer than my other 3, anyway i wasnt taking a shot at the 360

I haven't touched my 360 in so long. No point in having a 360 if all it's good games come out on PC as well.

There's lots of points to playing PC over 360, just look at left for dead 2 as a prime example.

I've never had to worry about sending it back for repair either, i can resolve that over the phone.

I've played games on my 360, PC, and PS3, just today. They're all awesome.

Man, you guys do a lot of touching (or don't).

Either way, learn to play with your console, not touch it.
