How ironic, too, that consoles are becoming more and more like little PC's..

Imitation being the sincerest form of flattery, perhaps?

Unfortunately, many of the games for the PC lately have been straight-up console ports. Games should be like Dragon Age: Origins, created for the PC and then ported to consoles. Even if the game is "inferior" on the consoles, those gamers are perfectly happy with it. Whereas with the opposite, the PC gamers will complain, like getting a downgraded console multiplayer experience with Modern Warfare 2.

Even though the gap right now between the console and PC is HUGE, we won't see new engines like Unreal Engine 4 until the next gen consoles come out. The PC sadly isn't big enough on its own to warrant making new engines for, despite its tremendous performance over a console.

I thought it was funny in the latest CryEngine 3 trailer where it shows scenes from the PS3, 360 and "Next-Gen Ready". The last part means those will run on current PCs, and consoles will have to wait until the next-generation to achieve those visuals.

Hey, what are the games that you say the PC guys get to have but the console guys can't? You mean like Crysis? Since Crysis 2 is coming to consoles and PC, I'm really curious of the graphical difference between the two. There's plenty of console games I wish were on the PC, there's a lot of dislike and abandonment on the PC lately by some publishers and developers.

More PC games (especially console ports) are getting controller support and people play PC games on their HDTV with their laptop, desktop or HTPC. Consoles are getting game installations, patches and bug-fixes like PCs have had forever. The PC started the digital distribution trend which the consoles now are following. The line between the two keeps blurring.

Oh, I know there's no way a console can run Crysis, but a few others include The Old Republic, Sins of a Solar Empire, the good versions of UT3 and TF2, and I'd like to see more console games offer a keyboard/mouse option.

Right, so there's even less of a reason to buy a $800+ PC.

Well the funny thing Tmac is so far, the consoles have mostly gotten the "bad" parts of the PC, as I said with the game installations, especially the many required installations on the PC, patches, updates, crashes, etc. ; )

The beauty and issue with the PC is no one company owns it. It is free to have all these mods, upgradability, customization, etc. But it also has no firm backer to prop it up when it needs help. We can't say Microsoft, as their wet dream is for PC gaming to die and every PC gamer buying their Xbox.

Sony allowed the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 to have keyboard/mouse and mod support but it needs the PC to create the mods and port them to the PS3, why not more games at least on Sony's platform?

Also, although I don't have a laptop that plays games (not yet anyways), that's also in my opinion a nice thing the PC has over consoles. I can play games like Burnout Paradise and Batman: Arkham Asylum on my desktop on a desk, hook it up to my TV or play it on a laptop.

You can already get a laptop that plays many modern games for $900 or below and will last you a while if you have "console" gaming standards and don't play all your games at 1920x1200 and maximum details.

Man, I wish you could edit comments.

Wanted to say I find it a bit funny that Tmac and Orchard Pear have ragged on the PC, when they themselves have had at least a slight desire to having a gaming PC. Its alright, I get jealous of consoles too. ; )

Mods mean nothing to me. It runs into a similar problem I had with little big planet, in that I don't want to play your (meaning overall, not you personally) shitty amateur level/mod, I want to stick with someone who actually knows what they're doing.

I want a PC for games that I know won't come to consoles, like Diablo 3 or WoW or the Kotor MMO. If they were to come to consoles, then I won't need a gaming pc.

I have to upgrade anyway, cause this one I'm using sucks big sweaty donkey balls. Doesn't even want to load IE without giving me a hard time.

There's certainly a huge share of horrible mods, but also plenty of amazing mods that highly extend the fun and life of a game such as for Oblivion and Fallout 3, and I don't mean nude patches. ; )

I'm really annoyed with the PS3 right now, because while it has the potential to take some of the really great things from the PC world (dedicated servers, keyboard and mouse support, and mods), a lot of the time these things don't happen. Instead I have to leave a game, download a patch, and then install it separately. In the end it's not a big deal, especially as a PC gamer who's been doing it for years. But then I go on my PC and steam has been updating all my games seamlessly. It's like the PS3 is bringing over the hassles of PC gaming that are no longer there on the PC, while at the same time most developers completely ignore the consoles fantastic potential with mod and kb/m support.

Wait, sorry, this is a 360 birthday thread. On the other hand, updates on the 360 are quick and painless and the whole experience is a lot more streamlined than the PS3's. If there's one thing microsoft did right with the 360, it's the software. It may be closed off, but it's solid.

Oh we're just ranking platforms now with no backing? Sweet!

PC>360>PS3>Wii

And because I own all 4 my opinion is somehow more relevant.
