The turnaround in hype and PR from this game went from like -10 to 90+ over the course of about 3 weeks. That's pretty impressive, given how cynical the internet in general is (furthermore when it has collectively made up it's mind about something).
I know I'm really looking forward to it a lot more now than I was before.

Am I the only one feeling that the Zelda franchise has been overly saturated recently? It looks like a good enough game, but I can't seem to get excited for another Zelda game...

ill get sick of zelda when it starts to disappoint me. i haven't really played a bad one. a lot of the elements are the same across games, but im one of those people that love them each time.

that said, i do see where you're coming from. i don't think you're alone.

You aren't the only one who feels that way. I've never cared for Zelda all that much but I do recognize it's a super high quality and iconic franchise. The games just aren't all that much fun to me. The most fun I've had is playing as Link in Soulc Calibur on the 'Cube. I tried getting into Phantom Hourglass and it just didn't resonate with me and the same goes for Twilight Princess. Actually, now that I think about it, I liked the crossbow training game more than Twilight Princess. For me, I still think OOT & MM are the best games in the series and we'll likely never see anything that approaches them ever again.

Nah, you're not alone! I am in dire need of an N64-style Zelda game... Twilight Princess was a great experience but I want a game designed for a more classic controller... Call me old fashioned.

If you're talking about recent Zelda game news, maybe. There has been a lot of stories recently about the next installment on the Wii. But as far as actual game releases go, I'm not with you on this one. This franchise is anything but saturated - they take forever to come out with years and multiple delays between each major release.

Like SoulBlade said, they are just so damn consistent. These games have been around forever and have made the jump to each new generation not just by staying alive, but by actually being innovative and setting genre defining standards. It's cool if you don't really like the games or something, but I really don't think this franchise is saturated at all. Then again, I'm in love with Zelda games. Seriously... love.

Also, good response Johnny.

I don't get too excited for Zeldas on portable consoles. But I remember when I saw Twilight Princess, I was so hyped. Now I want a new Zelda so badly for the Wii.

I would buy it if you used the d-pad at least for movement in dungeons and combat.

It does _feel_ like there have been a lot of Zelda lately, but when you think about it there have only been two released in the last three years (not counting Cross-Bow training). Spirit Tracks will be the third; in this day and age that's hardly flooding the market.

And as long as the games remain excellent -- and they have -- I'm not going to complain about a little quantity going with the quality!

It did have a two-player online versus of sorts. One player got Link to carry a bunch of gems to his base at the center of a stage while the other controlled a few Phantoms to chase after and kill Link. It was good fun. I can imagine that's still in there, though.

The whole blowing into the mic thing still sounds awkward.
I'm not really hoping for a D-Pad mode, given how unrealistic that hope would be. What I _do_ hope for though, is that the dungeons actually bring unique characteristics/puzzle themes with them. Although I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't.

I mean, let's just admit it: The whole "revisit the same dungeon multiple times but skip parts you already did" sounds like a cheap excuse not to code versatile environments and/or puzzles into the game. So the general direction of dungeon design seems to be set the exact same way as the one of PH.

Anyway, if this game manages to be fun and doesn't make you feel like you're playing the same dungeon all the time, even though you're supposed to be in different ones, I'm gonna be the first one to be positively surprised.

So... Go, Zelda Team! Please surprise me!

?

The revisiting multiple times is just for the 'central' dungeon. The other dungeons are separate and differently themed, just as they were in Phantom Hourglass.

Right? Or did I miss something.

"just as they were in Phantom Hourglass"
That's exactly the point. in PH all the dungeons played the same. The Ghost Ship was the only one that stood out visually. Only visually though. Modern Zelda games usually have dungeons of which each requires a different approach to reach your goal and solve the puzzles.
Think of the Water Temple in OOT, or the Spirit Temple or to be able to compare it better check out handheld titles like the Oracle series or Minish Cap. The dungeons usually revolve around one central object/mechanic that you have to manipulate. Minish Cap had that barrel in the first temple, the mine carts in the second one and the frozen Octoroc you had to free in the third one just to name a few.
PH on the other hand makes each dungeon feel like a collection of mini puzzles that don't seem to go anywhere. I didn't count, but it _felt_ like I had to do that "read the sign and then pull switches in the order written on the sign" type of... puzzles(?) alot.
It's hard to explain, but what I want to say is that modern Zelda games have the habit of teasing you with one massive object you have to figure out and by this might alter the whole dungeon's layout and open/close some paths and thus make you rethink the whole thing. That's what I don't want to miss again in this installment.

You really don't want a d-pad in a 3d game. Its just awful. Believe me, if they let you use the d-pad, you'll be complaining about that

Maybe, I'm a pretty hardcore simpsons fan (seasons 1-12ish) so perhaps it's more well known than I would assume. Either way it was slipped in very elegantly. I bet there are plenty of readers around here who wouldn't be able to pick it out of the article

I guess so. I had completely forgotten about this game all together and I visit Joystiq daily. I think it's being released to close to NSMBWii though I'm sure it's going to sell regardless of how good or bad it turns out to be. I haven't even heard anyone talking about this game or anticipating it in the least bit. Still seems to be flying under the radar if you ask me.

It seemed to be that way with NSMBW also (albeit to a lesser degree). I didn't hear too much about it after E3 and then right around mid september was when all of the trailers and feature articles started to come out.
