Nintendo DSi LL gets DS-ected
The Nintendo DSi LL (DSi XL here in the West) may be big, but it's still susceptible to being dissected by anyone with the proper screwdriver and no qualms about potentially ruining a 200-plus-dollar piece of electronics. In this case, it's the daredevils at PC Watch who had the guts (and spare yen) to pop open the Big N's newest handheld offering.
The site has posted step-by-step photos documenting the teardown, the highlights of which include a look at the system's larger capacity battery and downright mammoth mainboard. Rumors that a member of the site's staff fell into the device and got lost during the process remain unsubstantiated.

Wait... no! I see him! right there! next to the cartridge slot!
Foetoid @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:27PM
Your right! Someone get this guy a rope!
Anti-Villian @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:55PM
I seriously don't see him, which side of the slot? this is like where's wally in a DS
Special Agent Steve @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:05PM
Odd, I expected to see more smurfs inside it.
Oh well.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:07PM
Jeez, I think a Genesis mainboard is smaller!
Saturn2888 @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:07PM
It'd be funny if it was gaudy, but it's really not that big guys.
MechaGamerX @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:23PM
...Am I looking at console porn?
MowDownJoe @ Nov 24th 2009 8:53AM
Mmm... that's right... work those circuits... I'll take a charge from that...
...I'm not looking forward to when the word "technophile" isn't just synonymous with the phrase "gadget geek".
Granger @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:25PM
All I see is all the extra space that could have been used for GBA hardware. Hell, they probably could have included GBC hardware in there as well.
I'm still on my original Electric Blue Nintendo DS, but I think I'll upgrade to this when it comes out. It's not like I actually take portable consoles with me anymore, seems the perfect lazy Sunday at home device.
Scuffles @ Nov 24th 2009 10:01AM
..... with all that space they probably could have added support for NES and SNES
Still might just force me to get a DSi, I'm not one for super small screens and unlike a lot of this latest generation I suffer neither from ADD forcing me to carry a gajillion game carts with me at all times so I can play 30 seconds of each game in quick rotation. Nor do I suffer from an apparent crippling lack of pockets, allowing me to carry the one or three games that will keep me entertained with little trouble
NK @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:28PM
Where are the papers and inks?
The Aquacharger (PSN:Elvenmonk) @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:50PM
Do explain.
Because, if you're reffering to "It prints money" money is cloth, not paper.
Hydrophobicfish (PSN: HydrophobicFish) @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:56PM
Well, since you're getting technical, money's actually a combination of paper and cloth, not just one or the other.
Anti-Villian @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:56PM
Your money is cloth? thats weird, ours is made of plastic.
The Aquacharger (PSN:Elvenmonk) @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:59PM
Then I was bested.
Foetoid @ Nov 24th 2009 2:27AM
Yeah ours is plastic here in Aus too Anti-Villian, tho it obviously still bends and folds like paper. You can get it wet all day and it means nothing, its even colour coded for easy counting and identification.
The Aquacharger (PSN:Elvenmonk) @ Nov 24th 2009 2:30AM
Plastic money doth blow my mind.
Pedro Vasquez @ Nov 24th 2009 10:31AM
When I moved to the Uk, I was all like "Oh... paper money... how... quaint..."
Brian @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:31PM
This Thing Is So Huge, I'm Scratching My Head Thinkin Why Didn't They Add the GBA Slot Back In Again? -__-
Special Agent Steve @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:34PM
That would be hypocritical. Oh wait, no, sorry, I confused that with "logical".
BruniBrun @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:43PM
It would be counter-productive to waste resources on compatibility of an older platform. They don't make GBA games anymore.
There's already a GBA, SP, Micro, DS, Lite, and Player that let you play GBA games.
Spike (GT: SitriStahl) @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:48PM
@BruniBrun
well, seeing as i'm the only person in the world who actually has a gameboy player still, and uses it, the argument about that is invalid, also, it isn't portable
The Aquacharger (PSN:Elvenmonk) @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:50PM
Nintendo doesn't make GBA games but third party devs do.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 23rd 2009 11:56PM
Why is it counter productive? Somehow, I doubt Sony makes any money off of retail PS1 games, but they continue to keep the BC in the PS3...
WREturns [Planeteer I Power of The Final Countdown] Personal Shopper of the ATDF @ Nov 24th 2009 12:00AM
How do people still care about GBA compatibility? I hope Nintendo makes a DS that's backwards compatible with the 3D0, Turbo-Grafix 16 and Sega CD but NOT the GBA. That'll show ya!
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 24th 2009 12:04AM
Has A Link to the Past been ported to the DS? Super Mario Bros 3? Final Fantasy Tactics Advance? No?
Then we need GBA compatibility.
BruniBrun @ Nov 24th 2009 12:20AM
Can't you just play those on your GBA?
Before you go debating over how inconvenient it is to have to carry two systems, do yourself a favor and pick which one you want to play and take that one, if it's such a bother.
Heck, my portables never leave my home.
Extinction @ Nov 24th 2009 1:04AM
This DS is huge enough, now you want people to carry a GBA too?
BruniBrun @ Nov 24th 2009 1:23AM
Reading comprehension.
You lack it.
The Aquacharger (PSN:Elvenmonk) @ Nov 24th 2009 1:38AM
Sir, I want to import my pokemon, and I take my DS a lot of places. Carrying a GBA and a DS is a plain pain in the ass.
Emblazin @ Nov 24th 2009 7:14AM
@Darth
Yes they do still make money on PS1 games. They sell 'em on the PS Store. T_T
BruniBrun @ Nov 25th 2009 1:42AM
@The Aquacharger
Ever heard of the DS Lite?
Engerz @ Nov 24th 2009 12:04AM
The painting is interesting.
The top part is black, so is the inside where the buttons and screens are, but the sides and bottom are grey/goldish. Interesting.
BruniBrun @ Nov 24th 2009 12:23AM
I thought the whole thing would be matte dark brown.
I am disappoint.
carmaction @ Nov 24th 2009 12:26AM
Awwwwww yeah. Work it, you naughty DSi.
Milton Crompton @ Nov 24th 2009 1:01AM
Whoa! That's a huge bitch!!
Still, she's got more love to give than a slimmer smaller DS. I was just thinking, the grainy graphics are going to look less appealing on this larger screen than on the original DS screen, though.
I kinda dig it though, appeals to me in a mature way... odd, I find it.
ColorblindMonk @ Nov 24th 2009 1:58AM
THAT is huge. I know this, because I'm looking at it from space.
JC @ Nov 25th 2009 8:33PM
all that extra space is hiding dr octogonapus....
