Last we heard about the movie version of Uncharted, it was in the hands of writer Kyle Ward, who most recently penned the big screen adaptation of Kane and Lynch. According to a rumor being reported by LatinoReview.com, Ward has been removed by Sony and producer Avi Arad, who didn't want to wait on the script while Ward finished his current project, Hitman 2.
Reportedly, Sony is considering filling his slot with Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, the duo that's currently writing a relaunch of Conan.
The bigger surprise, of course, is that movies based on video games have scripts. Who knew?

I can't believe those idiots at Naughty Dog (and Nolan North) want Hugh Jackman. The choice is obvious.

Uncharted might just be the best video game movie adaptation ever. Playing through the game is like playing a movie as it is ... they should just cast all the peeps from the game (Nate, Sully & Elana) to reprise their role for the movie since they all look like the game characters anyway.

Since when has the game's content ever mattered when it comes to the movie? The fact that this movie was ever associated with and then LOST priority to a Hitman movie guarantees that this is going to be some low budget Uwe Boll style shit fest.

Yeah, I was kinda thinkin the same thing. If the game is already as theatrical as any movie, why bother making a movie?? I stil haven't gotten around to buying it, just cause I'm trying to put off buying games till after Christmas. Gotta buy gifts, and I put it on my last anyway, not that I expect anyone to buy me a $60 game for Christmas.

I would like to know why Naughty Dog doesn't just write the script if anyone will do it justice and not make it horrible it would be them.

I wouldn't think you'd have to write a really innovative script. Just add a little dialogue to the existing one.

Add? I think you mean "edit". Those games are over 8 hours long.

I agree, that seems pretty obvious. Why would you want the person writing for Kane & Lynch and Hitman 2? There has to be someone out there with writing talent that is a fan of the games.
All I know is that the movie better pass the quality control regulations that Uncharted 2 went through, the game is already so close to a movie in terms of presentation that this shouldn't be an adaptation that gets screwed up.

I renounced my religion after I heard New Moon broke the record set by The Dark Knight for highest opening say sales. And I'm not even religious. You have to realize that we just proved that we like shirtless sparkly vampire teens who carry bloom lighting WITH THEM, apparently, more than The Dark Knight.

ugh, horrible writer get tossed aside for a duo of horrible writers.
Here's an idea, if you want this movie to do well go The Dark Knight way, not the Resident Evil way.
Hire Nathan Fillion to play Drake, shit...maybe even Joss Whedon could direct the film. Don't turn this into another crappy Hollywood film just because you want to make a few quick bucks. Make a quality film that people will remember like Indiana Jones.

The consumer wants art, the producers (businessmen) want money. Just get used to it. :/

That doesn't make much sense, if the producers want money, then they should make art...since that's what the consumer wants.

I should have rephrased that, I oversimplified it. Basically, the main audience wants art, but.. what if they altered it so that they could make the main audience even larger? Exactly. All about the money.

It would be awesome for this franchise to become the next Indiana Jones, but really, I'll just stick with the games because theres no possible way the movies can live up to the source material

truthfully i really don't want the uncharted movie to be the first uncharted in movie form i just don't want that.......what would be perfect in my opinion is a lead up to the game i know a lot of video game based movies majority are prequels but i think with the uncharted IP they could make it work they could explore more of Nate's origin like when did he meet sully why did they become friends......they need to do this because as a film maker i know the importance of establishing a main character and origin because let's face it majority of us know who nathan drake is but there is also another audience the "I don't play games but love action movies" type people.........if they can establish a connection with non gamers they will feel curious and actually try the game becaue they feel something for nate...........if the story is going to be pretty much the first uncharted i pray they don't mess up because having a horrible movie will discourage new people to the franchise in exploring an already incredible franchise

It's an action adventure movie. As a filmmaker, you should know that origin matters not. Did we get an origin story in Raiders of the Lost Ark? No. Did that movie kick ass? Yes.
Besides, any new story in the Uncharted Universe, I would rather enjoy playing it as a game

I think Naughty Dog would have written the best script, even though they are a game company. They should use the same guys who wrote the script for Uncharted 2.

Uncharted is a great game series, but I doubt that would translate well to the theater. Studios have a habit of really messing this up. I can't think of a genuinely GOOD video game to movie adaptation.

An Uncharted film adaptation should be fantastic, but the games are already so cinematic and like a movie on its own...Still, I expect something AWESOME to coem out of this.
