Australian Attorney General Atkinson plans appeal of Modern Warfare 2 rating

An R18 rating can only be a good thing. It would not only mean less import-happy AU gamers, but more money to the local economy (two things which are essentially the same, mind you). They probably let MW2 be R15 because they saw how much freaking money it could make and went "screw it, we need this to come to this country."

Unless I'm mistaken and Australia is loaded to the point of not needing consumers to purchase stuff in Australian businesses; I honestly have no clue.

Can't blame them if they did though... he's irritating as hell! Something freaky about this chap though... Atkins acts all sanctimonious, but I am willing to bet otherwise, especially when he's all on his own... Goodness, I don't want to know, or go there... FREAK!

Has anyone yet pointed out that you don't actually need to shoot civilians in the "No Russian" mission yet? Shooting fake people isn't even necessary until the very end of the level.

I seriously love how in no matter what country or news station that they have misinformation and spread it as gospel truth. This guy should be for a R18 rating hence allowing the games in and allowing money to still roll in to the stores selling them. But instead he'd rather just cut the head off the snake and kill thousands of potential dollars of profit for stores in the country. Curious how the gaming industry is in AU since this guy started his rantings.

i wonder if this "Minister" realises that even if does put bigger restrictions on games that we will just import them...... the mature gamer has other methods of obtaining games other than just asking his mummy nicely to buy this really cool game because we have been really good for the past week.
Australia is a shining beacon among the free world, and yet we have this tyrannical power-hungry ego-mentalist enacting his own will upon the people. if all the other Attorney Generals want to pass this bill then shouldn't it just be a clear majority win, with also the other fact that over 80% of adult people see no problem with having a R18 rating in Australia. shouldn't these public servants serve the people already?.... we really need to change some laws in Australia to stop people like this mad man.

Australia will ban anything, including certain plumbers for inducing violence by jumping.

I also hope that Australia realizes that people can skip the airport massacre. However, it's not up to the people to skip it--it's up to their governments and higher officials. No freedom for all.

when i was like 12 my mum would let me borrow any movies that were MA15+ and under, and i wasnt allowed anything rated R. Same went for games, MA15+ and under only (we just assumed their was a R rating) and once i wanted to get a game that was an import from europe and it had an R18 rating. Straight away she said i wasnt allowed. Obviously parents would be more strict on kids playing R18 games over MA15+ and making minor changes means that kids are playing games they're parents wouldnt want them to be playing in the first place. and if they do keep banning games that means i miss out. Its just so frustrating

It won't make a shit of difference. The policy of the OFLC is that they do not revisit their ratings once made, unless changes have been made to the submission (eg morphine to med-x etc).
The only time that they will review their own decisions is when they discover that a submission (which are usually a video edited by the applicant) was a misrepresentation of the actual experience.
If it is found to be a misrepresentation then the product can be recalled at the cost of the applicant.
The decision of whether or not a submission was misleading can only be made by the OFLC itself however, not by lobby groups, MPs or other interested parties.

In other words...Atkinson can go !@#$ himself.

Citizens should be more than insulted ..... he is essentially saying that all gamers are too stupid to be able to separate video gamed from reality ....

I think its time for the Aussie gamers to get together and figure out what they have to do to peacefully get this guy fired and possibly committed, Send your government the message that you don't need a Don Quixote.
