The downside being, of course, that you have to wait for Dell to ship it to you, as opposed to downloading it off Steam.

And the upside is, you have a hard copy once you get it. Funny thing, that reselling games. It tends to not work too well with Steam copies.

So I hope you enjoy trying to sell L4D2 on Steam while others can get it for about the same price and still resell it.

@WIIFTW

That doesn't sound at all condescending... /sarcasm

Maybe not everyone is interested in reselling their games. Personally, I prefer buying through Steam as I can download any of my games to any PC whenever I want rather than having to always keep a disc if I ever want to reinstall a game.

@WiiFTW

Funny, since... the game's CD key needs to be plugged into Steam to work anyway, making the resell pointless. Oh, I'm sure you might be able to play single player with the discs alone, but single player on Left 4 Dead 2? That's a waste.

lol you don't know anything about steam do you? Since L4D is made by Valve, it needs a steam account to run, which means the key is locked to steam forever, and you can never re-sell it. Same thing with COD:MW2. I got a hard copy on sale for $30, activated it on Steam, and now I never need the disk ever again.

@Fausk: I realized that after I posted it. I was thinking of comparing non-Steam games to their Steam equivalents; I believe CoD4 had this situation where people were debating where to buy it. I love TF2 and probably will be getting L4D2 on 360, but I'm not a fan of the Steam platform, especially the inability to resell games and lend games w/o lending your account.

pc gamers take pride in thier games and all have massive collection walls with AAA games.

since you can't sell PC games back to stores or trade in, we need to pick our games carefully.

It does suck that I can never sell, rent nor gift my PC copy of MW2 ever. One good thing about consoles there. Damn you PC piracy!

@Fausk

Nope, you can't even play the single player until it's activated on steam, so no reselling unless you sell your steam account. You can always make a new steam account for every game you buy on the platform, reserving your ability to sell it whenever you choose, but that's kind of a pain and ruins the convenience of the platform.

Dell always has deals like this, and its a shame that joystiq normally only puts up amazon deals. This deal came out yesterday, and has the pc version for 30 bucks and the 360 for 40, with free shipping.

Really? 40 american dollars for the 360 version? Wow, now that I think of it, I'm using a Dell laptop and never really noticed before. Dell is a great company. Thanks, Dell, for everything.

You've always got to keep an eye on Dell's website. Sometimes there are crazy deals.

Like the time they cut the price on the 360 Pro two weeks before the actual cut and discontinuation happened. That didn't get reported either...

Yeah, I got the red resident evil elite for 100 dollars off. Actually, I got 8 of them and sold 6 on ebay, and 2 to my friends. This deal was not reported either. But amazon cuts by 40 dollars, and it's front page news.

So can we expect steam to go this low or not? I really want to pick it up but I have a limited amount money and time at the moment. Too many games would be bad. Assassin's creed 2 and Dragon Age can wait. Modern warfare 2 can wait a bit because its multiplayer won't die down. I want Borderlands at some point though.

was the link to the bad review needed?

i understand that they are different opinions and stuff, but the game is no way frustrating.

sure it isn't a complete faceroll and it takes some planning in certain modes (like survival), but it feels incredibly rewarding.

the game is really only hard when you go wondering by yourself like an idiot and get killed by a charger or one of the other incapacitating enemies, and really, you should never split up in this game, the fun is playing with people online.

That would be your opinion, which differs from the review, but both are valid. So they can link to their own review if they want.

At $25 I just now feel like I got my money's worth from Left 4 Dead; I'll wait for L4D2 to come down around 10 bones before/if I pick it up. Kind of burnt out on the gameplay at the moment.

Two things that would rock: ability to set fires that spread, and the ability to build simple things like fortifications, stacking furniture, improvised weapons, etc. As it stands, it feels like a grade A HL2 mod and not it's own game; adding to the 'survivor' experience could shift it away from being a shooter with zombies to it's own flavor of game.

All those people complaining about how it should have been DLC can't really complain at that price. Three campaigns alone could have cost $30 paid DLC, so a whole new game is a bargain.

L4D2 is a huge improvement on the original and it's tons of fun.
Hey joystiq, could you lay off quoting your review saying it's impossibly hard? I don't know if you guys read the comments or not but I think it's pretty clear most of the community disagrees with you.

This looks like a "while supplies last" deal. Price is back up to $49.99 and delivery time is back out to two-three weeks. Would have loved to jump on this one!
