GameStop 'Buy 2, Get 1 Free' used game sale starts tomorrow
You've probably got a ton of brand new games you want to purchase, but with Christmas just around the corner, the available funds to buy things for yourself are likely dwindling. Tomorrow through Sunday, GameStop's got a helpful solution: A Buy 2, Get 1 Free sale on all used games. The sale is both in-store and online, though you'll need to use code B2G1FREE, along with SAVER to get free shipping on $25-plus orders.
Just so there's no confusion, we're not suggesting that you buy used games for yourself to save money, far from it. We just can't help but think how much extra cash you'd have left for Assassin's Creed 2 if you got everyone on your list a second-hand copy of Wheelman.

DOH! I noticed what I did, thanks for the fix, I owe you one, you mofo you.
Solace @ Nov 24th 2009 8:04PM
GameStop deals are so horrible I can't believe people still buy anything from them.
Why would anyone pay $5 less for used stickered up game then buying it new?
Cody @ Nov 24th 2009 8:06PM
Amen!
sonicspike41 @ Nov 24th 2009 8:09PM
It's still a decent deal though. It's at least a reason for me to find a few older games I might like.
I could get 3 used games for $60 instead of $90, if they were $30 each.
I probably want find much that really interests me though since I already bought most of the good games new when they came out.
Darkfocus @ Nov 24th 2009 8:10PM

Nothing at Gamestop is ever actually a deal is it?
AoE @ Nov 24th 2009 8:11PM
Because they hate owning cases and manuals and would prefer a super cheap replacement dvd case with an awful, generic cover with truly wretched art made all the uglier by being printed using a cheapo printer. If that's not worth -$5, I don't know what is!
Solace @ Nov 24th 2009 8:13PM
not really considering BestBuy, and Toys R' Us both had 'Buy 2, Get 1 Free' sales on new games. This is just a way to make money off newer games that were traded back in, why do you think it's toward the end of all the major fall releases? People come in buying a used game for $55 which is highway robbery and walk out thinking they got a good deal.
Justin @ Nov 24th 2009 8:18PM
Because most used new games that are $55 instead of $60 have the manual and case.
Also: $5 is enough for a Chicken burrito, chicken soft taco, three layer nachos, and a drink from Taco Bell's Value Menu.
brian @ Nov 24th 2009 8:23PM
too bad that taco bell wont last long with you.
Malachi @ Nov 24th 2009 8:26PM
@Solace
"This is just a way to make money off newer games that were traded back in, why do you think it's toward the end of all the major fall releases?"
Because all the major fall releases came out just in time for Black Friday sales? You think if these games came out three months ago GameStop would be having these sales then? No, this is the best sale GameStop has for Black Friday. The rest of them are pretty pathetic.
Martin @ Nov 24th 2009 8:39PM
Here's why: I can return a used game within 7 days if it sucks ass. I can even tell them that's the reason. If I buy it new, and it sucks ass, I can't return it to Gamestop and have to find an alternate way to get something for it. Probably Goozex.
That's a much more compelling reason to me than saving $5.
ben.barbera @ Nov 24th 2009 8:45PM
Becuase it's $5 less than a new game. And usually the "new" used games are not in bad shape.
P.S.- I don't buy used versions of new games, only used versions of games over a year usually.
AoE @ Nov 24th 2009 9:04PM
@Justin,
I wish your local gamestop was my local gamestop, because that is not the case AT ALL at the one near me. Never once have I seen a used copy of a new game that actually had a case and manual.
jon.athan @ Nov 24th 2009 9:12PM
It's not always $5 less. If you can be patient enough, the next thing you know the game you want is used for $34, WITH the ability to return it for a full refund if you hate it.
It's pretty awesome, actually.
DBuck_Eye @ Nov 24th 2009 9:30PM
That $5 is a big deal for me. Whenever I was 13 years old and I had to rake leaves for my parents to get money for my games.
Cody @ Nov 24th 2009 8:06PM
wtf am I reading Gamestop supportage right now?? MY EYES!!!!!!
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 24th 2009 8:09PM
No thanks. I prefer my local shop or Goozex.
Local shop already has copies of Assassins Creed II for 48...
Martin @ Nov 24th 2009 8:42PM
Does your 'local shop' have a name? The only other specialty video game retailer around me is Play 'n' Trade, and they're not necessarily small. Is it a mom and pop shop?
ben.barbera @ Nov 24th 2009 8:47PM
Damn let me give you my address!
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 24th 2009 8:55PM
Yes, it's a mom and pop shop.
They've still got copies of Demon's Souls CE, and they were selling used Fallout 3 GOTY at that 48 dollar price point as well.
Liquid man @ Nov 24th 2009 11:00PM
Where might this 'local shop' be located?
HeXeN {?????} @ Nov 24th 2009 8:09PM
I was for the first time about to praise Gamestop for something until I got to the word used.
mruniq01 @ Nov 24th 2009 8:18PM
The secret to these two for ones are getting the latest used games. And possibly reselling the one you want the least back. I hope to find used copies of Uncharted 2, Assassins Creed, and maybe just maybe MOW2...far fetches so early but they might be there.
harry @ Nov 24th 2009 8:55PM
Lots of people jump on the bandwagon for major releases like Assassin's Creed and MW2 and realize within a week or two they made a mistake and don't like it. So it's not THAT far fetched to find them so soon. Also, if you have more than one local GameStop, you can buy each game at a separate store and return them to another and re-buy them to still get one free.

Boy I can't wait to buy some used games for 5 dollars less than I could get them new! Then I'm gonna ram a big dildo up my butt!
Really though buying used from Gamestop is retarded. A cool used game/movie/whatnot store opened near here and I've found some good stuff there recently, though. Apparently someone dumped some PS2 stock there since I found Klonoa 2 and Okage: Shadow King good as new for 4 bucks. Even still had the stickers on the top.
Mr Mobius - the wandering artist @ Nov 24th 2009 8:34PM
If I were American then I'd rather go to WalMart (I go to Asda - a part of Walmart's owner company - the games new are cheaper than Game - the UK version of Gamestop) to buy the games.
Ben @ Nov 24th 2009 8:55PM
ahahahahahaha
deaftly (PSN,LIVE,STEAM) @ Nov 24th 2009 8:59PM
Gonna take advantage of their used ps2 games definitely, about time I try Shadow of the Colossus.

I know it's never too late to play Shadow of the Colossus, but...
man are you late to play Shadow of the Colossus.

I tried the demo, that counts for something, right?

I remembered seeing those coupons printing out on receipts i gave out at Payless... using some to get some 360 games!!
commen-cents @ Nov 25th 2009 12:46AM
with none of the profits going to the developers
duke_87 @ Nov 25th 2009 2:11AM
That's really the worst part about their shady business models. Yeah, you're getting ripped off... but if you're dumb enough to buy there then you deserve it.
The real problem is how their used games sales totally screws the people who actually make the games out of any compensation at all. Of course, that's the same reason why they Gamestop likes selling used games so much- pure profit.
On rare occasions, I'll pick up an old game used at Gamestop, but I'll never get ripped off an a recent release and I have never sold games to them either.
Y2M @ Nov 25th 2009 2:21AM
You know...call me crazy, but could used video game sales actually be helping new video game sales in the long run? Think on it for a second:
Used games tend to be most popular with kids and parents of kids because they're... well.. cheaper. The kid then gets hooked on video games, and then 10 years down the road has a job and buys the hot new games on day one - that'd be your key late teen/twenty something demographic.
GameStop has exploded in the past 10 years - they've quadrupled in size. Video game sales over have exploded too.
I'm not saying it's a causation... but there could be a correlation. If there is...then what hurts the developers today helps them tomorrow.
GewurztraminerX @ Nov 25th 2009 10:50AM
Makes sense. 10 years ago I was that kid scraping together a few bucks for some used SNES games and now I'm all college edumacated, married, working full time, and probably spent the most amount of money on day-one new games in my life this year.
Still, Gamestops can be nice for finding some titles that are a few years old.
LM2007 @ Nov 25th 2009 7:23AM
This deal is really bad in so me way because is a deal that they do during all year, i remember 2 or 3 months ago they did it. I prefer if they add a good discount to games or something like that (not only old).
ScottG13 @ Nov 25th 2009 8:43AM
Super secret: Wheelman is not bad. I beat it and sort of enjoyed it. A solid 6. :)
ProgDrummer @ Nov 25th 2009 10:43AM
Question (even if I wanted to jump in on this deal which I can't because I have no money - although I am eyeballing 3 games for $17.99 each - but still have no money):
the Gamestop website says - "Cannot be combined with any other offers."
The original post says - "The sale is both in-store and online, though you'll need to use code B2G1FREE, along with SAVER to get free shipping on $25-plus orders."
Is SAVER not another "offer"? Just wondering in case I happen to find $35 somewhere in my house.
Katana Master @ Nov 25th 2009 12:46PM
I love my local shop. There is always good deals going and the people there are friendly. Not to mention games are always in stock, never out of stock. Which is really good since XMas is around the corner.
Fuck Gamestop.
