Oh, yay! A game no one really cares about, based on a dead franchise, debuting at a stupid awards show no one should take seriously.

I'm not badmouthing the film, I'm saying it's a dead franchise.

Leave the past in the past.

I wouldn't call it a dead franchise considering Disney is releasing an extremely high budget blockbuster remake.

Nevermind, it's not a remake. I mean a sequel.

Oh, really?

Fine. The franchise is fine...but the game debuting at the VGA's sucks.

How can the franchise be dead, when they're making a new installment... in the franchise?

I believe what Darth is trying to say is that Tron has been dead since 1982 (when the movie came out, ignoring the 2003 video game) and should stay that way. Don't get me wrong, I love Tron, I just can't see the new movie or game doing any good for it. Some things should stand on their own.

Yeah, and Daft Punk is doing all the music.

Tron video games don't have a very good track record but it's a possibility for it to be good, if done right. Disney has made good games before.

I went out and rented the old tron when they announced the new Tron. I didn't think much of it visually, but I liked the world they tried to create, even if it took back seat to the special effects.

I actually think the new Tron could fix all the problems that the old Tron had, and the visuals really do look something special.

As for the game... well, it's a movie game. I couldn't really care less.

@Quiggy

Exactly. It would be like someone releasing a sequel to a Hitchcock film. No way it would stand up. Look at how crappy the remakes have been...

You have to remember that Tron was made in 1982. Actually the special effects are part of the reason it got so popular at the time.

That probably had something to do with the popularity of The Last Starfighter as well.

Now that movie just makes me laugh.

Well I already said that it's a sequel and not a remake. And Disney for the most part makes absolutely terrific movies, I have no doubt that this will be a fantastic film. And the game has a shot if they get good devs and target the right audience (I.E "Hardcore gamers")

Right. Because I don't like something, that makes me immature...

I guess all the Activision boycotters are children too, huh?

Tron 2.0 is one of the best shooters I've ever played, and if this new one is anywhere close to it, it's well worth getting excited about.

A) The Last Starfighter still rocks.

B) Tron has a pretty good video game history. The original arcade game was awesome, and a real highlight of the arcades at the time (don't judge it by the horrendous XBLA port, without the specialized arcade controls, it's just not the same). The PC version of Tron 2.0 was quite enjoyable, both as a modern era game and as fan service to people who still loved that world.

C) Obviously there are still those of us that still care about Tron :P

sorry double post

@courtney

too true! I was introduced to tron through 2.0, I loved that game to death playing it over and over with different builds and focusing on different weapons, the counter ability was hugely unbalanced but it was a great game and it captured the atmosphere, also was my first FPS/RPG

after that I watched the movie and played all the old games, it is a classic series and I'm looking forward to the sequel since the old special effects couldn't do it justice.

"Right. Because I don't like something, that makes me immature..."

No, because you don't like something does not make you immature...

The fact you claim something is a 'dead franchise' based purely on your own personal opinions and your inability to realise why that viewpoint makes you immature, is what makes you immature. Understand now? Or shall I show my working on a scrap of paper?

Personal Opinion ≠ Facts - The sooner people understand the difference between personal opinion and fact the better everyone's quality of life will be!
