Next Tron game teased, debuting at VGAs
Joining games the likes of Halo: Reach and 2K's new Spec Ops debuting at this year's Spike Video Game Awards is a new installment in the Tron franchise. It's not the first time we've heard of the game -- it was rumored to be in development back in January of this year. Still, its existence is confirmed by an all-too-brief teaser at GameTrailers, which promises a proper unveiling at Spike's awards show on Saturday, December 12.
Based on the teaser, the game may simply be titled Tron -- although the logo and art style found in the footage are very similar to that of the upcoming movie sequel, Tron: Legacy. We'll find out exactly what to expect on the Game Grid in just a little over two weeks' time. For now, check out the teaser after the break.

Oh, yay! A game no one really cares about, based on a dead franchise, debuting at a stupid awards show no one should take seriously.

Hey now, don't badmouth Tron.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 24th 2009 7:09PM
I'm not badmouthing the film, I'm saying it's a dead franchise.
Leave the past in the past.
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Nov 24th 2009 7:10PM
I wouldn't call it a dead franchise considering Disney is releasing an extremely high budget blockbuster remake.
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Nov 24th 2009 7:14PM
Nevermind, it's not a remake. I mean a sequel.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 24th 2009 7:16PM
Oh, really?
Fine. The franchise is fine...but the game debuting at the VGA's sucks.
That Guy @ Nov 24th 2009 7:16PM
How can the franchise be dead, when they're making a new installment... in the franchise?
Quiggy @ Nov 24th 2009 7:19PM
I believe what Darth is trying to say is that Tron has been dead since 1982 (when the movie came out, ignoring the 2003 video game) and should stay that way. Don't get me wrong, I love Tron, I just can't see the new movie or game doing any good for it. Some things should stand on their own.
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Nov 24th 2009 7:20PM
Yeah, and Daft Punk is doing all the music.
Tron video games don't have a very good track record but it's a possibility for it to be good, if done right. Disney has made good games before.
That Guy @ Nov 24th 2009 7:24PM
I went out and rented the old tron when they announced the new Tron. I didn't think much of it visually, but I liked the world they tried to create, even if it took back seat to the special effects.
I actually think the new Tron could fix all the problems that the old Tron had, and the visuals really do look something special.
As for the game... well, it's a movie game. I couldn't really care less.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 24th 2009 7:24PM
@Quiggy
Exactly. It would be like someone releasing a sequel to a Hitchcock film. No way it would stand up. Look at how crappy the remakes have been...
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Nov 24th 2009 7:25PM
You have to remember that Tron was made in 1982. Actually the special effects are part of the reason it got so popular at the time.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 24th 2009 7:26PM
That probably had something to do with the popularity of The Last Starfighter as well.
Now that movie just makes me laugh.
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Nov 24th 2009 7:30PM
Well I already said that it's a sequel and not a remake. And Disney for the most part makes absolutely terrific movies, I have no doubt that this will be a fantastic film. And the game has a shot if they get good devs and target the right audience (I.E "Hardcore gamers")

Seriously Bradwart, if any comment shows your maturity and/or age, or lack there of, this is it.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith-ATDF Co-Founder @ Nov 24th 2009 8:10PM
Right. Because I don't like something, that makes me immature...
I guess all the Activision boycotters are children too, huh?
Filthy Assistant @ Nov 24th 2009 8:39PM
Tron 2.0 is one of the best shooters I've ever played, and if this new one is anywhere close to it, it's well worth getting excited about.
Ben @ Nov 24th 2009 8:39PM
Damn fellas, cool down. We all have our opinions that not everyone will see eye to eye with. Just try and respect those opinions and find harmany. And if you can't do that then just agree to disagree.
ChuckBartowski (ATDF Technical Consultant) @ Nov 25th 2009 12:46AM
Sounds like someone woke up on the wrong side of the force....
Courtney @ Nov 25th 2009 1:47AM
A) The Last Starfighter still rocks.
B) Tron has a pretty good video game history. The original arcade game was awesome, and a real highlight of the arcades at the time (don't judge it by the horrendous XBLA port, without the specialized arcade controls, it's just not the same). The PC version of Tron 2.0 was quite enjoyable, both as a modern era game and as fan service to people who still loved that world.
C) Obviously there are still those of us that still care about Tron :P
Anti-Villian @ Nov 25th 2009 7:25AM
"I guess all the Activision boycotters are children too, huh?"
correct!
Anti-Villian @ Nov 25th 2009 7:30AM
sorry double post
@courtney
too true! I was introduced to tron through 2.0, I loved that game to death playing it over and over with different builds and focusing on different weapons, the counter ability was hugely unbalanced but it was a great game and it captured the atmosphere, also was my first FPS/RPG
after that I watched the movie and played all the old games, it is a classic series and I'm looking forward to the sequel since the old special effects couldn't do it justice.
Marco le Polo @ Nov 24th 2009 7:14PM
I might get tickets for the VGAs.
Ben @ Nov 24th 2009 7:20PM
Hell yeah! Bring on the light cycles baby!!!
MrWeatherby @ Nov 24th 2009 9:16PM
This game looks like a pile of butts, and I have no doubt it is geared towards butt-enthusiasts. Pass
oogieboogie004 @ Nov 24th 2009 10:21PM
Go back under ur bridge, troll (that means you, Darth Bratwurst)
F1: Basu Gasu Bakuhatsu @ Nov 25th 2009 12:23AM
If this is anything like 2.0 consider it a first day purchase from me.
ab @ Nov 25th 2009 4:36PM
This!
Tron 2.0 was freakin awesome!
ChuckBartowski (ATDF Technical Consultant) @ Nov 25th 2009 12:47AM
YES
Truckle @ Nov 25th 2009 6:48AM
"Right. Because I don't like something, that makes me immature..."
No, because you don't like something does not make you immature...
The fact you claim something is a 'dead franchise' based purely on your own personal opinions and your inability to realise why that viewpoint makes you immature, is what makes you immature. Understand now? Or shall I show my working on a scrap of paper?
Personal Opinion ≠ Facts - The sooner people understand the difference between personal opinion and fact the better everyone's quality of life will be!
