Rumor: OPM teases Dead Space reveal in December
Considering the artwork depicted on the "next month" page of November's Official PlayStation Magazine, it requires only the slightest of hops to reach the conclusion that a new Dead Space announcement is lurking just around the corner. Allegedly snapped by GOONL!NE (as in the connectivity instruction, not the lineup of criminals), the artwork features a grotesque, tentacled creature viewed through what appears to be the iconic toaster visor of Dead Space protagonist Isaac Clarke. The site confidently suggests that the creature itself is derived from the original game's concept art. Now's the time to strategically remember several job listings, which mentioned a Dead Space follow-up, along with EA CEO John Riccitiello's recently expressed desire to have EA focus on more profitable, safer games. What could be safer than an isolated spaceship sending out a distress call?
The November issue of Official PlayStation Magazine is on sale

EDIT: Thanks for pointing out that we sourced someone else. You can always check out where information is sourced for each post (if there is a linkable source, at least) in the bottom left hand corner of every piece.

I would love Dead Space 2, and while we're at it go ahead and make Mirror's Edge 2.
Drew -- PS360: uphillbothways @ Nov 24th 2009 6:10PM
I loved the mechanics of Mirror's Edge, and I beat it and many of the time trials. However, the combat sucked. It was so uncompromising sometimes.
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Nov 24th 2009 6:19PM
I loved Mirror's Edge because the possibilities. Sure, it was very linear but there were many ways you could approach things.
(Plus I got into Parkour like 5 years ago and I'm glad to see it in the mainstream media)
Xeones25 @ Nov 24th 2009 6:33PM
Agreed. Both were absolutely fantastic games.
Hyams @ Nov 24th 2009 7:00PM
I really enjoyed Mirror's Edge. Completed the game and got the no-shooting trophy. Only real way to play the game, I think.
In the sequel, I'd like to see them remove combat altogether. Not all games need teh killingz.
Drew -- PS360: uphillbothways @ Nov 24th 2009 6:08PM
I would love to see a new Dead Space game. I thought the previous installment was fantastic. Though, it had better be going to the 360 as well. I sold my PS3 to pay for a surgery. :'(
Seriously, this makes me very sad. I'm gonna cry now.
Traceur_Ryuk [Founder of The Anti-EMCB(tm) and co-leader of ATDF] (PSN: Ryuk_shinigami) @ Nov 24th 2009 6:10PM
Not bringing it to 360 would be downright retarded, don't worry about that.
Donn Darko @ Nov 24th 2009 6:11PM
fo real
Drew -- PS360: uphillbothways @ Nov 24th 2009 6:12PM
I know. This was just a cry for help.

My PS3's blu-ray went out in September, been playing just digital games. Shit sucks. I suckered my family into buying me a new one for Christmas so I don't have to buy one, lol.
The1stMJC @ Nov 24th 2009 6:24PM
It will be on 360 also it is just the news of the game being shown by a Sony magazine so don't worry.
EA has been showing PS3 love to take advantage of Activision not showing love someone said. Or it is just EA realizes hey people that own a PS3 buy things too.
PSN: John-Paul-Jones (click for last.fm profile!) @ Nov 24th 2009 6:10PM
This game was so scary I couldn't even play with the lights out (yes, I'm a pussy). The tentacle babies make me cringe in horror the most and I would pump a million rounds into one even after I killed it with fire
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] ATDFs Financier and Batman @ Nov 24th 2009 6:12PM
I was just the opposite, i was barely scared by it at all. I guess it has something to do with the "if it bleeds we can kill it" mentality, so the only thing i would be frightened of was shit popping out behind me or whatever. Well, except for twinkle twinkle, that was unsettling to say the least
LegendaryRedass @ Nov 24th 2009 6:48PM
The best part for me was taking those scary creatures and kicking their ass.
Durden @ Nov 24th 2009 7:18PM
Something sneaking up behind you while outside when you couldn't hear was the worst for me. Scariest game ever IMO.
fred @ Nov 24th 2009 9:41PM
"I was just the opposite, i was barely scared by it at all."
That's no fair, you're Batman.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] ATDFs Financier and Batman @ Nov 24th 2009 10:59PM
pssht, says Rorschach
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 24th 2009 6:11PM
I will laugh so damn hard if it's either a port or a sequel of the rail shooter for the ps3 motion controller.
Space @ Nov 24th 2009 6:28PM
I'll take what I can get
sonicspike41 @ Nov 24th 2009 7:26PM
A port with better graphics... that will (likely) sell better.
Then we can all laugh as people shout, "The graphics on this game could have been better on the Wii since it was on-rails. EA was just too lazy to make it a better game since it was for the Wii." Seriously, 3 years after the Wii launched and I still hear this argument used (even for a few high profile games).
Ben @ Nov 24th 2009 6:12PM
I still need to beat the first one. Does the tag only say playstation cause it was found in playstation magazine?
jerses @ Nov 24th 2009 6:13PM
Dont be to happy... just yet. Probably this game will come december 2010.
DarkSan00 @ Nov 24th 2009 6:16PM
YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY!
den-69 @ Nov 24th 2009 6:19PM
They already confirmed Dead Space 2?
I remember this? lol
sony boy (6 years til sony man child!) @ Nov 24th 2009 6:28PM
dead space psp?
sinjinn @ Nov 24th 2009 7:51PM
only if its a 2d side scroller.
Johnathan @ Nov 24th 2009 6:42PM
Delicious.
Reuben @ Nov 24th 2009 6:48PM
I'd welcome a proper Dead Space sequel with open arms. It was the second scariest game that I've played this generation, with first place going to the original Condemned.
Wayne @ Nov 24th 2009 9:03PM
Not if Isaac mistakes you for an alien. It's best to approach him with your arms behind your back.
Filthy Assistant @ Nov 24th 2009 7:03PM
It's not really so much a "Rumor" as "really obvious pre-announcement".
CrabBattle @ Nov 24th 2009 7:17PM
Please be a sequel! I hope that the protagonist isnt mute / doesnt go back and forth when told. At one point i was sick of kendra.
den-69 @ Nov 24th 2009 7:30PM
Yeah that's one of my main gripe's with this game.
SPOILERS
Even when she tells him his girlfriend really is dead and it was all a figment of his imagination, he still stands there unaffected and mute.
I was like, 'CMON?? SERIOUSLY?? YOU GOT NOTHING?'
/SPOILERS
Too many games this generation have mute main characters... Bioshock... Fallout 3....
RudyHuxtable @ Nov 24th 2009 7:41PM
@den-69:
I was actually just thinking that while playing Dragon Age. They voiced the Commander in Mass Effect but couldn't for Dragon Age?
sinjinn @ Nov 24th 2009 7:59PM
*spoiler*
he doesnt say anything but he does shake his head in grief.
I dont think they will make him say anything, and i dont think they should either. by not assigning him a personality the player is able to become the character. I was slightly disappointed at the end when he took his helmet off, it was akin to masterchief taking off his helmet.
the silent hero is great for games unlike metal gear solid where you are basically controlling a b-movie charachter from the 80's
den-69 @ Nov 24th 2009 9:06PM
It just seemed to me like they were saving money on voice acting lol.
No one would blindly follow orders like he did, there was no way to like his character because he had no social interactions with any of the others.
For an example of an excellent way of making you feel like the main character but also make you like(love) him, look at Uncharted 2. Whenever Drake had a conversation with anyone, I felt I was learning more about a character I really enjoyed playing as.
You get none of this from Dead Space, the closest you do get is the above mentioned part but still, no words? lol
sinjinn @ Nov 25th 2009 12:25AM
you have a point .. maybe a few words would have been good. but i dont think he had any choice but to follow orders. basically... they needed all this stuff to get off the ship and he just had to get on with it because it was the only way.
deadspace 2 should be a hit from the start just because of he ground work deadspace has laid.
Crusty Magic @ Nov 24th 2009 9:34PM
Dead Space was a huge surprise for me last year, ended up being one of the best games released for 08.
kentuckyfried @ Nov 25th 2009 2:00PM
MP co-op!!
Seriously, I hope they don't ruin the game. I think one thing that would help is if the game were a bit less linear, with multiple paths to get to objectives, and secondary objectives. And more incorporation of stealth. And multiple endings, Less trigger events. Random, but logical, enemy spawns. blah blah blah
/s the armchair designer
Absolutely loved the first game. It's one of the few games I had the patience to sit through and play for my only platinum.
