A recent Ubisoft press release has revealed that the company is just so darn proud of its latest bundle of joy, Assassin's Creed II. According to the publisher's own internal estimates, the game has sold 1.6 million units worldwide in its first week of availability -- a 32 percent increase over the launch week sales of Assassin's Creed the First. The company also touted the game's impressive critical reception, highlighting the game's 94 percent user rating on Gamespot and an average critic's rating of 91 percent on GameRankings.com.
We're glad to hear Assassin's Creed II is doing so well despite being the follow-up to a fairly polarizing blockbuster. Also, here's a cool Digital Foundry time-lapse video showing off the game's day and night cycles. Yeah, we know that has nothing to do with what we were just talking about. Deal with it. We drop non sequiturs like Ezio Auditore drops corrupt, 15th century Italian noblemen.

Assassin's Creed 2, Ima let you finish selling, but Modern Warfare 2 had the greatest first week sales of all time!
OF ALL TIME!
Okay, really, I figured I'd throw it out there before someone else did....but still, AC2 is a lot of fun. ;]

Oh, I totally agree...
But it actually fits! Which is more than I can say for 90% of the other times I've seen it used...
Either way, I've still been enjoying AC2. So..much...side...stuff..to do...Whenever a new Assassination Contract opens up, and I finish 2 or 3, I'm always surprised to see even more pop up. It's nuts!

The game really is super awesome and is my second or third favorite game this year with Killzone 2 & Uncharted 2. At this point I'd have to say Uncharted 2 is the better game but they are hard to compare and both are basically equally awesome. For an open world game AC2 is sure beautiful and really has a close attention to detail. Bottom line: This is an awesome game that deserves all the sales it gets and then some. This game should be the best seller of November because it's been the best game released but we all know because it's not a military shooter with multiplayer that it'll never happen.

No it can't. Are you crazy, Jack? It'll never happen.
Did I mention just how much better Killzone 2 is than MW2 and ODST combined?

It's hard to compare AC2 & UC2 because they're so different but as I said in my post (the one you were trolling) I think that UC2 is the better game. I like all three of them (KZ2, AC2 & UC2) pretty much equally and I think those three were my 3 favorites of 2009.

AC2 definitely deserves all the praise it's getting. What an awesome game! For me this is definitely a competitor for Game of The Year. Although I have to say that Uncharted 2 is pretty freakin awesome and I think that game should definitely win that title. I'd be happy if either of them won.
I can only imagine what AC3 is going to be like. They've totally topped themselves here as far as scope and quality over the first. It'll be a hard act to follow.
So Ubisoft.............how about that other game we've all been waiting for? You know.........Beyond Good & Evil 2?

Thats what happens when developers start off with a great base in the form of a very good but not perfect first game in a series, and spend a lot of time making it better and addressing all the weaknesses - something the best games this year, KZ2, AC2 and UC2 have in common. Note to Valve: those 3 games are good examples of what sequels are meant to be.

You sound like you are repeating McElroys review. KZ2? Was that really any good? I have heard poor things about it. Getting a PS3 soon and need some suggestions.

Good because THIS GAME IS AWESOME. Seriously. Play AC2. Easily one of the best titles of the year. Hands down.

God Dammit! Because of Dragon Age, this is still sitting on my shelf. I almost just want to blow through the rest of DA just so I can play this one before the end of the year.
Wait, that's a terrible idea. Just gotta be patient, I guess.

Yes - this game is amazing; they have improved on every facet of the original one. I love the ability to build up your hometown, among other things. Great game - keeps me away from MW2.

In addition to all the other listed improvements, the game has a lot more soul. It's much easier to like Ezio than it was to warm up to Altair, and there are even some really good humor moments (like when Ezio first encounters his uncle). Ubisoft has done an outstanding job, and AC2 deserves every sale.

Oh yeah - definitely - Ezio is a great character. I really enjoy listening to the dialogue.

I wasn't overly worried, but I'm happy to see this game receiving great sales in the wake of Modern Warfare 2. It would have been extremely disappointing if a development team had gone to great lengths to address the comments and criticisms of the fans, only to have it suffer in sales due to another game's success. Dedication to increasing the quality of a game series with a sequel is definitely worth rewarding.

Too bad there are so many reports of the PS3 having major glitches, like trophies not working (again), tearing, frame rate droppping, etc. I've already bought the game, but I'm waiting until they work out the problems before I start in on it.
Posted: Nov 24th 2009 1:30PM baby sea tuna said
That's what happens when you don't make things like trophy integration manditory from Day 1. At least they're trying, I assume. They'll patch it eventually. Hopefully you'll still be interested in the game by the time it happens.

There is a little bit of screen tearing but honestly thats the only thing I've noticed. I haven't had any trophy population issues or framerate issues. I'd say pop the game in and enjoy it because it's really good. It's nothing compared to the graphical issues that plague Dragon Age Origins. It's not anything thats taken away from my experience anyway ... http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/89/coolstorybro.jpg

December 26th can't come fast enough. Seriously, the day after Christmas I'm using my saved up money and what I get in gifts to get myself a Zune 80/120 off eBay, a studio quality microphone, and Uncharted 2 & Assassin's Creed II. Most of this is coming out of pocket, but that smidge of Christimas money will actually let me get all of that.
Until then, I gotta wait to play this damn game....... FUCK! lol

Best non-exclusives of the year: AC2 and Batman.

Man, I'll never understand game sales. AC1 sold what, 8 million copies across three platforms? How is that possible? There are 30 million xboxes in the world, and only a small fraction have it? What do people do with their consoles or pcs even?

I hope people are thinking I'm going to pass on the game - I'm not. I am really looking forward to playing this. I am trying to finish off the spec ops missions in MW2 before I move on to the next game though, so it will probably be another week or two before I get to ACII.
It is good to hear though that the problems I've seen on the Ubisoft board aren't happening to everyone. Keep my fingers crossed and I guess look forward to a great game!

It should be "aren't thinking".
And the only thing that fails more often than a red-ringed 360 is the Joystiq comment and reply system. I was trying to respond to my own comment above.

how can a red ringed 360 fail more than the reply system? If it has the red ring than it has already failed, a single time.

Was it only me who had problems (again) with the text that was so damn small you couldn't read it unless you were right next to the screen?!?!
Why the hell is it so small, it's not on screen that long, so would it have hurt ANYTHING to make it readable?
