Kevin Shortt, master wordsmith at Ubisoft Montreal, has allegedly confirmed to Official PlayStation Magazine UK (via CVG) that Far Cry 3 is in development at the Canadian super-studio. Most of you know that we had no problem heaping copious amounts of praise upon Far Cry 2, one of our Top 10 games of 2008, so a third installment is most certainly welcome in these parts. Sadly, Shortt didn't say whether Ubisoft has decided to go with Africa again for the setting, but offered that what he's seen of the game looks "pretty exciting."
So ... that's pretty exciting, right?

For me, it has been the single biggest let down of the generation and I don't think I'll buy number three for fear of being burnt again. Like everyone else is saying, great on paper but so buggy. I really tried hard to like it too.

Will FarCry3 allow me to actually finish the game? Will it freeze on loading all gave saves just like FarCry2 does??? AWESOME!!!!

How is it a top 10 game of 2008?
I usually respect Joystiq's ratings but you guys are way far off on this one.
Far Cry was Shit, especially for a game i waited over a year for.

FC2 was the best game for me in last 2 or 3 years (before that I had sweet times with STALKER SoC and Medal Of Honor Airborne). Man, I just don't know why but I want to play it again and again - that weapon sounds, beautiful picture, excellent realisation of headbobbing -- that's total immersion I guess.
I'm very happy reading this news as I'm currently waiting for no games to come, everything seems uninteresting..
Go Ubi go!

I'm with the pro-FC2 camp on this one. I found it to be immensely enjoyable - the most immersive experience this gen. To all the haters who complain about guns that broke, vehicles that broke, not having enough pills, not being able to escape chasing enemies, being seen from miles away: I suspect that you just weren't very good at the game.
FC2 wasn't a traditional FPS. You couldn't play it that way. It was more like a survival challenge. Yes, the game hates you and punishes you, but it forces you to dig in and find ways to overcome the challenges. You have to earn the right to good guns that don't break. You have to learn how, where and when to use a vehicle. You have to learn to look after yourself, helping out the church to get your pills, gaining and upgrading your safehouses so you always have a place to hide. You have to learn the maps, and the lay of the land: where you can hide, where to go in and where to get out. Above all, you have to be patient and tough. Approach the game in the right mindset, and it rewards you in spades.

it's so cool when other people realize this. FarCry 2 was an open world FPS. except, i don't think the "S" stood for shooter. i think it stood for "Stealth". because, like you said, if enemy vehicles are popping up out of "nowhere" a LOT, then you're doing it wrong. yeah, sometimes they get the drop on you, but that's why i liked to drive around with an IED "contingency plan". and people complaining about enemies seeing them and shooting at them from miles away, just straight up suck at the game. the game wasn't perfect. but it was awesome enough for me to not mind its little imperfections.

Why were you guys down voted? It was broken shit. Great ideas that got fucked in the programming stage I guess.
Where to begin? First weapon damage on enemies are a joke, everyone hates you period and check cross points are spawned with assholes in an unrealistic fashion.
I could go on and on but who would listen? Apparently not Ubisoft who dumped this turd on our laps and laughed all the way to the hype train paying off pretty much all game reviewers or something for it to have been so heavily praised. Reminds me of the over hyped Halo 3, errr Halo 2.5, and ODST, errr ODST: the Expansion pack .

It took me a while to get into FC2. And more than a few attempts to really get going. Then one day something clicked. I don't know what it was, maybe I figured out the game saves, or the safe-house upgrading, or the weapons buyin or the busses.. I can't remember. But suddenly I was "in it". I took my time and really approached the game one checkpoint at a time. I wasn't playing any other games at that point either. I was so immersed that after about 50 hours of game play, I was jarred when it ended. It took me a month to get through it, and I can't remember when I was so engrossed in a title..
Besides your in-game buddies, strategy, stealth and surprise are you real friends in this game. If jeeps suddenly charge out of nowhere, or enemies attack you from miles away, you're not playing it right. Yet ;)
Needless to say, I bought the weapons and vehicles DLC, and will be re-playing the game over xmas. Grenade crossbow ftw!

I hate it whenever someone feels the need to tell me that the reason I didn't like a game must have been that I "probably wasn't very good at it then". IOW, it's not the game's fault, but mine, that things suck...
I played FC2 about half-way through, I managed to kill tons of identikit mercs, swallow my Malaria pills on time, and complete most missions up until that point – So, by all accounts: I was 'good enough' at it, but guess what: I still didn't like it.
So please, stick your patronizing BS where the sun don't shine.
