Rather than choosing something selfish like the opportunity to ride Donald Trump like a pony or a trip around the Moon with the original Apollo 11 astronauts, 12-year-old Make-A-Wish Foundation wish recipient Emily Adkins instead chose to give back to the foundation. In designing the Holiday 2009 GameStop gift card, Adkins secured $1 per card purchased (up to $100k) for the Make-A-Wish coffers.
Though the design will be featured amongst other gift cards this year, GameStop is offering the donation deal across all card designs. Any gift cards purchased from now until December 26 will go towards the donations, though none of the proceeds will bring Emily any closer to riding Donald Trump like a pony. Isn't that just a crime?

I applaud you, i've never seen a faster downvote, well done. 3 minutes takes some serious stupidity, but you're 'special' aren't you *pats head patronisingly*

It's the holidays, they'll go evil after christmas. My guess is they'll do a depreciation of value on unopened games

It's things like this that really make me happy to be part of the gaming community. Stuff like this, Child's Play, and many others just really shows that us gamers are a caring bunch in general.
Sure, generally we sit at home playing video games, but ask us to spare a dollar when pre-ordering a new game and we'll be happy to provide!

I meant when they ask, "Would you like to give a dollar to ______ society?"
And it was more metaphorical anyways.

Really? She's twelve. It's supposed to
A) Be clear it's drawn by a child who was involved with the charity.
And
B) It's a good drawing for a twelve year old, not amazing, but it has a clear design and will probably make a lot of hearts feel a bit warmer this Christmas time.

If you think I'm begging for an upvote from a bunch of nerds on a video game website I'll likely never meet, and if I did probably not like, you're out of your mind. It was sarcasm. I got that it was some sick kid that drew it, looked fine to me, blah, blah, blah. Now go stick your head up a Turkey's ass and relax a little bit. Whah, whah!
Oh no...I'm going to be downvoted again! Quick, someone take the gun out of my mouth :|

Imagine trying to use them at the counter though. "Do you accept multiple payment methods for one purchase? Like, can I use more than one gift card or cash together? I can? Okay, here's 150 gift cards, each with $1 worth of credit. Come on, I ain't got all day lady!"

That's generous of Gamestop, but 100K as a limit sounds too small, when considering that their profits are in teh billions. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say it's stingy.

As an employee of Gamestop, I had the chance to witness the personal testimonials of several Make A Wish children that we sponsored at our Vegas convention in August. It was one of the most affirming moments of my professional life, seeing the joy these kids had associated with what my company was able to do for them and their families.
One young boy, probably nearing 12 who was given notice he had maybe a final 12 months to live, has his friends and family treated to a Gamestop shopping spree and gaming party at his house. He was so happy to be able to have the experience of gaming and an event facilitated to his request for his loved ones. He told us how happy it made him and we were 6,000 people humbled in an auditorium... giving him a standing ovation for his courage alone living with a painful and debilitating bone disease for the last 6 years.
My boss and his peers rebuilt homes in New Orleans this past summer. The pictures were incredible and compelled me to go work the cancer unit at Texas Children's Hospital a month later, donating time and swag to some truly inspirational little kids. Say what you will about my company, we are a brand that families can go to for specialty retail in one of the coolest hobbies ever, and that when the opportunity presents itself, can sometimes rise to the occasion. I know most core gamers find it cool to hate on us, but I still love my business and the people I get to work with and help.
I have to admit, I am proud of you for deciding to feature something like this. Good karma instead of venom--and no, we didn't ask the kid if he wanted to preorder anything. ;)
Happy Thanksgiving, Joystiqers!

To all the assclowns who seem to think that this girl should have drawn a better picture, please bear in mind that her art classes were likely canceled in favor of extensive chemo treatments and recovery sessions.

My best friend has cancer. He just switched to a new medicine/chemo treatment about two months ago (this after already having surgery to remove it, and being on chemo for almost a year before that).
I see him online maybe once every 2-3 weeks. He is weak and can't do much. He will be spending Christmas away from his parents because of it.
I can't even imagine how much worse it could be for this girl. Besides that, not everyone is a master artist.
