'Half-Contra' explores NES Contra as done by Half-Life 2
31
Machinima user M0rtanius has created another video that mashes up a classic Konami title with Half-Life 2. His original piece placed Half-Life's protagonist into the world of Castlevania, whereas this latest one features Contra. The attention to the level design is pretty neat in both, and the music is lifted straight from the NES games, but it's just not the same without the Contra arsenal and Simon's whip. Also, we're not seeing any Konami code being entered, which means a quick end could not be far behind. Check out both clips after the break.

I need to buy a new psu and tower, then I'll have my new, slightly used PC to play it on and I think I'll just borrower the orange box from the friend who's gifting me the rest of the hardware.
Can't wait!

Consider picking up The Orange Box - you get HL2, the first 2 episodes, Portal, and Team Fortress. Something tells me they might do a new version of The Orange Box when Ep.3 comes out.

Actually, the Valve Complete pack is a better deal than anything right now. L4D 1 and 2, the entire Half-Life series, Team Fortress 1 and 2, everything counter strike, portal, and a few others for $100,

they are virtually the same thing with a few different sprites... although i've never played Probotector, i'm inclined to disagree because the European version of everything that didn't originate there tends to be crap (in terms of videogames- not culture at large).

It pretty much was the same game, and honestly, it didn't make too much of a difference. Just a bit of nostalgia attached to it, I suppose. That's all really.

After watching both these videos I'd like to see them make a Half Life Man 2, The Greatness of Mega Man 2 but with Half Life 2.

Damn it! I started brainstorming an idea for this a few weeks ago. Figures someone would beat me to it.
However my idea for it is a total conversion mod using the UE3 & UDK.

They seem downright stupid to me and I'm still being kind. If you can't do it right, which you can't in first person... don't do it at all or be creative and reinvent it to better suit the first person perspective.
But hey, it's their time not mine so power to them.

It's really just for nostalgia, not to be necessarily amazing or even fun.

I could see this working much better w/ the UE3 & UDK. Sure it would be a ton of work, but using Unreal Script, you can do a lot of stuff.

Orange Box and the HL1 anthology is the best purchase if you're only interested in the Single Player experience. Though with the deals steam runs, it may be cheaper to get Half-Life, Blue Shift and Opposing Force as separate games when they go on sale.
Either way, you can't beat the Half Life series and Portal when it comes to the support of the modding community. The mods here are cute little nostalgia pieces, but I've played mods that are just as good as the games Valve put out themselves.

This is pretty astounding. And it's simple and easy to do. Of course there could be more vivid ways to do this, but it looks pretty darn awesome they way 2D games are realized in 3D. It's just a neat different perspective. To me, it's as if I'm looking at games if our PC systems were more powerful in the 80s.
