Rock Band platform now has over 1,000 songs
A recent press release has informed us that with the release of today's Rock Band 2 DLC pack, Harmonix has met its goal of having over 1,000 songs on the platform before the holidays. According to the presser, these tracks represent the work of 390 musical artists. The rhythm gaming community has downloaded over 60 million songs from the Rock Band Music Store, which Harmonix has kept alive and kicking with new musical additions for 105 consecutive weeks.
To put this achievement in chronological terms, we'd estimate that the average length of these songs is, oh, about four minutes. By our calculations, a full playthrough of the Rock Band catalog would take you two days, 18 hours and 40 minutes. Not accounting for the number of times you'll inevitably fail out on "Painkiller," of course.
Congratulations, Harmonix, on this rocking accomplishment! Now, get back to work. That Paul Simon track pack isn't going to program itself.

This is why I quit buying guitar hero games when I got Guitar Hero World Tour. That game sucked!
VaultBoy @ Nov 26th 2009 2:03AM
Track list aside, theres only a dime's worth of difference between the two. Just saying...
__smooth__ @ Nov 30th 2009 7:09AM
I beg to differ.
Although the setlists these days may come close imitating each other's DLC, Rock Band's DLC is much more valuable than GH's. That's why I've only bought three on GH and over 60 on RB.

This is what makes Rock Band the best rhythm game available.

Wow, that's a lot of songs.

I wish I had an awesome series, but I made my stupid, stupid mistake of not taking Rock Band and Skate, and now I only have Guitar Hero and Tony Hawk.
I do have Call of Duty, though...
MetalGearSunny @ Nov 25th 2009 2:10PM
Congrats on hitting one thousand and cheers to a thousand more!
baby sea tuna @ Nov 25th 2009 2:10PM
Wow, that's impressive. Keep it up HMX!
And while you're at it, how's about some Superchunk? Or maybe a little Descendents?
juangrande386 @ Nov 25th 2009 2:18PM

IT PRINTS MS POINTS!
rohan @ Nov 25th 2009 2:24PM
since when does MS point work on the PSN?
The Pirate @ Nov 25th 2009 2:34PM
Oh i thought you knew? the 360 is the only way to play Rock Band. At least, thats what Microsoft is brainwa...errm..."telling" you
ClarkyCat @ Nov 25th 2009 3:14PM
Given that the picture is of the 360 version I thought it would be apt. "IT PRINTS CURRENCY TRANSACTED THROUGH THE PSN'S WALLET INTERFACE AND/OR CARDS PURCHASED IN-STORE!" didn't have the same ring to it, I apologise.
The Pirate @ Nov 25th 2009 3:22PM
You could have just said " IT PRINTS MONEY". No need to be a douche
Jerses @ Nov 25th 2009 2:35PM
1,000....last time i check they added like 4 spongebob songs...to "ROCK" band.
HazyCloud @ Nov 25th 2009 2:47PM
I think the total is closer to 6 but whatever. There's still roughly 994 other songs to play.

Your point being?
The Pirate @ Nov 25th 2009 2:38PM
I must be the only guy who finds Painkiller very easy on Expert Guitar. My hardest song on Rock band 2 (Including DLC) is probably Caprichi Di Diablo or Master Exploder I know Master Exploder isnt that hard but i just cant get that fucking riff down! The solo is easy but the riff is fucking nails for me..
Spike (GT: SitriStahl) @ Nov 25th 2009 4:27PM
yes, painkiller, up until the solo was easy, and i still got at least 70% on both solos
now master exploder on the other hands, lets just say those chord changes are the reason i haven't beaten that slipknot song in GH3 yet
mykel @ Nov 25th 2009 2:43PM
2 days, 18 hours and 40 minutes, eh?
My music library says it would take me 84 days, 31 hours and 32 minutes to completely listen to it. Looks like we're not quite finished, Harmonix ;]

"you missed The Pirate, he's one post up"
Nope. You are a pirate.
Nice try though
Stevetrop @ Nov 25th 2009 2:45PM
Ever since I got rock band 2 I couldn't go back to guitar hero for this one thing. I much rather have a selection of songs that I get to pick out to add to the longevity of the game itself instead of having sequel after sequel being produced.
While I'm sure each guitar hero does come with some various improvement to the franchise structure after each one I am still more attuned to how rock band 2 and its music selection now.
Snowman @ Nov 25th 2009 2:50PM
so you know how long it'll take you, but how much will it cost you if you have none now, and want them all tomorrow?
mykel @ Nov 25th 2009 2:56PM
Have you really been as far as decided to use even want to go look more like?
Snowman @ Nov 25th 2009 2:59PM
mykel, you must have at&t, it looks like you're missing a bunch of words in that sentence.

Over 1,000 songs!*
*additional overpriced songs must be paid for.

No
BPMOmega [XBL, PSN, Steam] @ Nov 25th 2009 5:29PM
So... what's the total song library for Guitar Hero now?
(granted, that most of the songs can't be played without swapping discs... or going to PS2 for the songs only in GH1).
Rodrigo @ Nov 25th 2009 8:22PM
GH1 songs are avaible as a download for GH2 on xbox
Jerses @ Nov 25th 2009 5:32PM
Those songs arent ROCK...if your going to call rock band a game and start adding country music and kids tunes...oh, never mind... theres no point in my post.
VaultBoy @ Nov 26th 2009 2:07AM
Hey, Spongebob and other Nickelodeon shows have a made a valuable contribution to..... ah fuck it, i cant finish that sentence. *shutters*
MrSpaceCowboy @ Nov 25th 2009 8:20PM
1,000 songs and still none by Coldplay.
HA!
VaultBoy @ Nov 26th 2009 2:05AM
Descendents better be only a buck though, they are so fast it'd be a ripoff any other way. And while were at it how about some Black Flag or Minor Threat?
