Rock Band Weekly: Nirvana, Night Ranger
Ummm ... "Smells Like Teen Spirit." That is all one needs to know about next week's Rock Band DLC. How many of us out there will finally learn the lyrics to the song we mumbled for years every time it popped up on the radio?

Some classic Nevermind right there laddies, even if it's mostly made up of their 2 biggest singles from that album.
I'd love to see Stay Away and Senseless Apprentice sometime in the future.
Hooch @ Nov 25th 2009 3:26PM
Brain Fart, Scentless Apprentice.*
Zack11190 @ Nov 25th 2009 3:27PM
I believe they already have Stay Away. It was part of the Nevermind track pack the released a year ago.
Hooch @ Nov 25th 2009 3:30PM
Ta for the heads up, that's basically the whole of Nevermind then? Downloading right now :)
Tiptup300 @ Nov 25th 2009 4:41PM
All of Nevermind is available after this.
VaultBoy @ Nov 26th 2009 1:58AM
There we go HMX was that so hard? Nah lets milk people for all of the other nirvana songs they either dont know or dont give a sh*t about first. That works right? A very Acti-esque move BW. Thanks! About f***ing time!
VaultBoy @ Nov 26th 2009 2:20AM
The Live Unplugged version of Come as you are? The one Nirvana song I want and they pull this crap? Not cool HMX, NOT COOL!
President Taco @ Nov 25th 2009 3:26PM
It still feels wrong to see Nirvana in Rock Band.
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Nov 25th 2009 4:18PM
It's better than seeing Zombie Cobain himself in GH5.
rahmenxnoodles69 @ Nov 26th 2009 1:37AM
Wow idk why this guy got so downvoted, his point is certainly valid.
Although..
Harmonix treats Nirvana's music and Kurt's memory way better than Activision.
Come on.. Kurt Cobain resurrected so he can join the stage with your sub-human avatar and sing You Belong With Me? Fucked up stuff..
But I don't mind it in RB so much I guess.
Though I'm sure if Kurt were still around he'd just probably say that kids should just take the time to learn Polly and About A Girl and Smells Like Teen Spirit on a real guitar rather than play pretend and earn nothing at the end of the day.
But hey, Krist and Dave have some say in the matter and they don't seem to have too much of an issue with it until it turns into the kind of shit Activision does..
So I'd say, as long as it's in RB, I think its okay..
VaultBoy @ Dec 1st 2009 1:19AM
Hopefully this is the last Nirvana pack we ever see for RB. Not that they are a bad band, but definitely overrated. There is enough Pearl Jam as well, I could stand a few more Foo Fighters, but only a select few. How about putting out some KISS songs we know!?! How about some more Smashing Pumpkins since the music genre seems to have a hard-on for Billy Corgan anyway? I propose nearly every song covered on Iced Earth's Tribute to the Gods (only the original artists and masters...clearly). Some Iced Earth would be cool too, but they're too awesome for RB. I honestly don't think they are well enough known to be in the game (but i could be wrong), but it would be cool. I pray for the ears of all listeners as someone tries to mimick the vocals of Matt Barlow or Ripper Owens. Ah...there I go digressing again. Oh yeah, get the studio versions for the Nirvana pack, HMX or NO DEAL!
uranutan3 @ Dec 1st 2009 3:46PM
I just love how many people get bent out of shape about a game trivializing a dead celebrity when no one makes a peep about games trivializing things like the horrors of war.
He wasn't even a great musician. Mediocre singer and shit guitarist.
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Nov 25th 2009 3:26PM
How does one release a Night Ranger pack and not include Sister Christian?!?
./` Motorin'!
What's your price for flight? ./`
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 25th 2009 3:30PM
That's what I was about to ask.
What the hell, Harmonix?
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Nov 25th 2009 3:36PM
I love that scene in Boogie Nights with the drug dealer. "Motoriiiiing!"
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Nov 25th 2009 3:37PM
Ah yes, here we go:

Bri @ Nov 25th 2009 6:04PM
Because sister christian isn't as rockin' as pop culture would have you think :P (i def wouldn't complain if it was released, tho)
however, Night Ranger FTW! maybe someday I'll get 7 Wishes, too.
Averna @ Nov 28th 2009 6:47AM
Was thinking the EXACT same thing. Makes me scared its already in the RB3 track list
mietha CAG @ Nov 25th 2009 3:27PM
That doesn't feel me with warm fuzzies. Everyone has assumed they've been sitting on those for RB3... That, combined with EA's cutback, and the fact that they claim, somehow, that the Rock Band brand is still not profitable, makes me VERY afraid for the future of the franchise...
oolz @ Nov 25th 2009 4:06PM
few people that follow the franchise closely assumed they were holding those for RB3. THe big assumption has been that the masters for those three songs simply weren't available (lost, damaged, etc). This only furthers that assumption.
As for profitiability, those comments were most likely taken out of context and were most likely directed at the Beatles game itself and not the entire franchise. The numbers don't add up, it's simply not possible for them to have not made a profit on the franchise at this point.
ugotamesij @ Nov 25th 2009 3:27PM
How to know if you are under the influence of illegal substances:
1. Cotton mouth
2. Life seems pretty good
3. You genuinely enjoy Night Ranger
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith @ Nov 25th 2009 3:33PM
Take that last one back, or else.
NitroMikeo @ Nov 25th 2009 3:41PM
Or else he'll shout at you in caps lock!
Seriously man, take it back!
GunForHire @ Nov 25th 2009 4:11PM
Oh my God, we're high! Of course... when the barn burned, we became pawns in marijuana's mellow chess game!
Mallarme @ Nov 25th 2009 3:47PM
Is Rock Band how we learn lyrics to songs now? "Remember radio?" It should be remember lyric sheets?
PN04 @ Nov 25th 2009 4:50PM
Ummm...

Vintsukka @ Nov 25th 2009 3:55PM
So after this, we have the whole of Nevermind, but two of the tracks are live? That's just... weird.
Oh yeah, we're still missing Endless Nameless. That would be a nice addition.
Eurypytes @ Nov 25th 2009 3:56PM
"The Lyric sheets, so hard to find, what are the words, oh Nevermind...."
Yes, I do know the Weird Al version of the song better....that's probably what I'll sing on this version, personally....
lego91994 @ Nov 25th 2009 3:58PM
Turn the lights out... at the steakhouse!
Here we are now... eating tables!
todd @ Nov 25th 2009 4:02PM
Teen spirit should be free if you got the nevermind pack already.
mywhitenoise @ Nov 25th 2009 4:03PM
I am so SICK of "Smells Like Teen Spirit", the other 2 songs are better than that overrated single.
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Nov 25th 2009 4:20PM
Are you stuck in the early 90s, a time when such a thing just might be overplayed? I don't give a shit about your taste, just give me your time machine.
mywhitenoise @ Nov 25th 2009 4:23PM
I said "overrated" you dumbass. And yes, that song is still "overplayed" by mainstream media.
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Nov 25th 2009 5:32PM
You said you were sick of it, most likely implying that it's overplayed and not necessarily overrated. I think that's a fair assumption to make. I was just being silly, really.
And I disagree that it's overplayed still - then again, I don't pay any attention to radio, because these days it's for "dumbasses"... like you maybe?
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Nov 25th 2009 5:37PM
"and not necessarily" - replace with "in addition to"
WiredKnight: Keeper of Threads @ Nov 25th 2009 5:38PM
So don't watch/listen to mainstream media. I personally haven't heard that song for like 15 years, expect when played from my own library.
WiredKnight: Keeper of Threads @ Nov 25th 2009 5:38PM
*except.
mywhitenoise @ Nov 25th 2009 5:47PM
"And I disagree that it's overplayed still - then again, I don't pay any attention to radio, because these days it's for "dumbasses"... like you maybe?"
haha, I'm willing to bet I know A LOT more about music than you do. It's not smart to assume your taste or knowledge in music, but there's a pretty good chance I know more than you do. I was looking for upcoming indie artists before Oink got big, before Soulseek. I don't listen to mainstream pop, or any of that crap that's on the radio...but it's still unavoidable (you never hear the radio from some annoying co-worker, some TV ad, some crappy youtube video with a horrible song played over it?).
I'll use this as another example, I couldn't give two shits about Tom Cruise or Katie Holmes, yet I can tell you the name of their kid just because the media shoved it down my throat. I don't give a shit about Kanye West or Taylor Swift, yet I know about that shitty meme courtesy of annoying people on the internet.
apple6989 @ Nov 26th 2009 4:12AM
mywhitenoise reeks of smug.
MrSpaceCowboy @ Nov 25th 2009 8:16PM
Is this going to turn into another "ur favrite band sucks lol" argument?
Because I think we had one of those the first week Rock Band DLC came out too.
Claiming to know more about music than anyone else is just douchey. It doesn't make you 'cool' or 'alternative', no no no. Just a douche.
Comet @ Nov 25th 2009 4:25PM
Guitar hero 5 has nothing appealing to me now.
Comet @ Nov 25th 2009 4:25PM
Besides Bowie. Forgot about that.
Eh @ Nov 25th 2009 4:28PM
Hopefully they dont screw the button track up like Guitar Hero did with teen spirit. The song translates really well to buttons because its so simple, theres no reason to screw it up as bad as the GH5 version and add bullshit just to make it harder on expert.
Young_Nastyman @ Nov 25th 2009 4:33PM
WHY?!?!?!
I've been waiting for Lithium since the Nevermind 6 pack, and we get the LIVE VERSION!!!!!!
FFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
*sigh* hopefully this was actually a GOOD live performance by Nirvana for once
Tiptup300 @ Nov 25th 2009 4:42PM
You evidently don't understand the point of grunge...

JXCgunrunna @ Nov 26th 2009 2:53AM
To enjoy Nirvana live, you really have to be in the same state they were in at the time...High out of their fucking minds

Actually this version is PURE WIN. The whole Reading crowd singing along with Kurt just makes it so much more epic. David Grohl himself said it was one of the highlights of Nirvana's career. So worry not, you'll get a version even better than on Nevermind.
