I love any game where the kill counts reach the hundreds...PER LEVEL.

Such a fun, over-the-top shooter. Already beat it multiple times on PC and Xbox, planning to DL it for XBLA in the future.

As much as I love it, it's not really a game that benefits from better graphics. I'll stick with my old school copy.

I guess for those who never played it back in the day, this is the way to go now though.

This game falls into a category I dub "Pac-Man Games"

That is, games in which you (Pac-Man) are relentlessly chased by an enemy (ghosts). Sometimes, the enemies are literally on top of you and you, the player, make audible sounds of anxiousness while you tear around the map hoping to God you don't die.

Serious Sam creates this feeling OFTEN.

I specifically recall a time in the game during an Egypt-esque stage where I ran around a corner in a long trench-like area and was beset by THOUSANDS (I am not exaggerating) of enemies. I ended up killing the last one with a melee weapon because I was out of ammo and had like 8 HP.

So epic.

Exactly.

This game will make you grateful you're alive. Few games manage to raise your pulse to a fever pitch, cackle like a lunatic and scream out of anger; Serious Sam does it every couple seconds.

sounds kinda like the philosophy behind Demon'Souls, it doesn't matter how much i upgrade, enemies are constantly putting me on the edge and every victory is incredibly satisfying.

Painkiller also had the same twitch-shooter vibe of Serious Sam, where you fought hordes of increasingly ridiculous enemies, it looked a bit nicer visually too.

And on the fourth hand, $20 in 2001 is a little over $24 in 2009 dollars. So it's actually gotten $4 cheaper.

Nice game, but IIRC the gameplay involved a little too much sprinting backwards for my taste.

I have way too many shooters I need to play through right now, I'm gonna pass on this one unless a good steam sale comes up.

By the way, they're having an early holiday sale. Batman is half off, GRID is $7, Dragons Age is $37. Couple others too.

They're also selling a THQ complete pack, which includes Company of Heroes (plus all x-packs), Dawn of War II, Titan Question (+Immortal Throne), Champions Online, and many, many more games all for the low, low price of $50 USD. It's actually $400 games they're selling.

They're also selling a LucasArts complete pack but that's not nearly as good.

All the videos I've seen show the player just running backwards and shooting baddies until no baddies are left. My tastes have evolved to something more interesting, more 'immersive'. Same goes for the new Painkiller game; it's just old.

Yeah, I can see that. But running backwards and shooting a lot of bad guys is just really fun in this game ^_^

the baddies come from all sides but there are a bunch of times when running in a big circle backwards is the best way to survive. it's total chaos. i don't think the videos do a good job of how the baddies will swarm on you. it took doom to an exponential level. they're like locusts that descend on you.

nowadays, you're lucky if you face 15 baddies at once in a game.

I want to get this game but at the same time with all of the deals going on right now on Steam like the THQ pack, LucasArts pack and Batman:AA ($25) it's a bit hard for me to settle for a $20 price tag. Definitely going to keep an eye on this though I intend on picking it up later.

CroTeam didn't do the 360 version??? what the heck are they doing? it's not like they're releasing a ton of titles. i guess it's understandable. it's a very small team (less than 10?) in this day and age when 100+ people can be working on a title.

I cant wait. I use to be totally addicted to this game. I'm starting to find out the most addicting games are the ones where hordes of enemies come after you, Left 4 Dead, Painkiller 1-2, Serious Sam Series, they are just too much damn fun. I remember spending like an entire day and a half stuck on serious sam playing co-op, beat that game like 2 times in 1 day.
