An Eidos Montreal community spokesperson has put a dent in rumors of Deus Ex 3 being developed exclusively for PC. "Only the PC version has been announced so far," he wrote on the official Eidos forums, diplomatically addressing a story that originated from a (now corrected) article on Bit-Tech. "I dunno where that website is getting its info from!"
We dunno if these comments preclude an exclusivity announcement in the future but, as John Walker notes on Rock Paper Shotgun, the situation isn't a conspiracy so much as "a matter of crossed wires." The Deus Ex franchise is certainly no stranger to consoles and, considered from a commercial viewpoint, it seems likely that Eidos and Square Enix would want to share their collaborative efforts with as wide an audience as possible.

third that.
Deus Ex are amazing games..they really do need to make more of them.
I hope they really push this one.

I'd like to at least see more of the game first, but I would certainly welcome it on consoles (if it doesn't suck at least).

@Rawker
It sucked because it was on the PS2 ;)
It was a FPS designed to work with a keyboard and mouse with many menus that required clicking with a mouse like augmentations.
I'll play Deus Ex on the PS2, right after I finish playing every mario platformer that ever existed with a racing simulator wheel and an accelerator pad.

I had much more of a problem with the ridiculous way the maps were split in the PS2 version. It may not be as good as the PC version, but I found it surprisingly playable.

I'd buy another Invisible War in a heartbeat, it was a fantastic game. Was it as good as the original? No. Did it live up to the standard set by the original? No. Was it still fun and rewarding? Hell yes.
I'd still buy a Deus Ex 3 moulded after the original in half-a-heartbeat though.

Of course it will come to consoles, there's no reason why it wouldn't. ESPECIALLY with it having a "cover system" instead of simply allowing us to lean, that's a very console specific design decision.

I dunno about that. It was pioneered on consoles but that doesn't make it console-specific design. It's just the way games are going. I just hope that they don't put too much of it into level design, as that would detract from the overall feel of the original I think.

But being able to lean/crouch/prone IS A COVER SYSTEM and personally I think it works just as well and fits better then completely changing the perspective you're playing from and sticking you to a wall.
The reason why it's console specific is because it's necessary to use it on them so you can use the rest of the controllers buttons for different things. A keyboard does not have that issue. The only reason why "It's the way games are going" is because pretty much every game is designed first and foremost for consoles now.

Note this complaint is only for first person games(like Deus Ex), it makes perfect sense for a third person game to have the cover mechanic.
And yes if it's in there, it's going to be taken into account with the level design.

I can't imagine it would be PC exclusive, it will probably at least be launched on the 360 too. I'm not too fussed either way, just as long as it doesn't get *cancelled* for PC. Then again... I actually liked Invisible War (sorry guys, don't rape me.)

Don't worry, you're not alone. I liked it. I didn't love it, but it was OK. Incidentally I didn't even notice that there was only one ammo type in it until I was almost finished it :s (used up all my ammo on the flamethrower and went to switch to another weapon and was like "oh, it's all gone. shit...melee weapons it is then"). The main problem it had IMHO was it's name. If it had been in a different franchise it would probably have been more highly considered. Kinda like C&C Gnerals really. That was a fantastic game that I had hours of fun with, but was totally different to the rest of the franchise in both mechanics and setting.

Oh my god, you liked Generals? Me too! We need to hang out some time.
I liked Invisible War because of it's story more than its mechanics (the same as the original, the mechanics are generally not what grabbed me about that series in the first place, same as System Shock). IW's story was presented as this sort of blank slate, and any emotional depth you got from it depended on your perspective on the ideas of the various organizations. I loved KOTOR II for the same reason.
DX, IW and KOTORII explored morality and ethics to a much greater degree than any other game I've played, even Bioshock pales in comparison, which is why it always irks me that people bitch about IW. So what if it had unified ammo? Sometimes I think people go into games and look for things to complain about instead of trying to enjoy it. At least they didn't break the game by taking out any major features like a certain recent big-name game.

Its a shame about the sequel Invisible War being dumbed down because it was a console game vs. the 1st PC exclusive. The same may happen here with the 3rd game.
I will be extremely surprised if it is a PC exclusive, if CD Projekt, Valve and Crytek are going towards consoles, then what of anyone else?
I just hope these games won't be dumbed down then, like Invisible War, Far Cry 2, FEAR, etc.

Deus Ex was never designed with consoles in mind, even if it was ported, so that's not a very good example.

But the reasoning is that because it is on console, it has to be dumbed down. The PS2 version shows that there are other reasons they "dumbed" down the game since you could port it over to consoles with ease.

I found the sequel to be pretty fun though.

It really doesnt matter where anyone lives, I can care less for this holiday also because I am russian and only live in America with a green card, however it is still a holiday and I live here now, so from me to them its a happy thanks giving. The whole thing behind this holiday is that I (me) have to have something this year that I am thankful for. I am thankful for having Joystiq.com among other things in my life. I wont go write the Journal News or New York Times a letter about how much I love them, but I will tell the Joystiq staff simply because I feel as if they do something more special for me than the newspapers above, Joystiq informs me on my favorite hobby daily which is very entertaining for me, so thats why I am thankful for Joystiq this Thanksgiving day. Quite simple actually if you get the hate-stick out of your anus, some of you...

For this comment, you are now and forever my favorite person on Stiq. Namely for the use of "quite simple actually if you get the hate-stick out of your anus, some of you..." I shall adopt this phrase and use it in daily life. It sounds almost like what would be a Russian idiom translated to English, such as the German "Du hast ein Vogel". Is that the case? Anyway, I like ya, kid. :)

Seems like no one has actually played Invisible War, instead they are just going off the opinions of reviewers who stated it wasn't as good as the original and was a somewhat dumbed down experience for consoles. While that is perfectly true, it was also a fucking amazing game. Just because it wasn't as good as the original, doesn't mean it didn't hold up amazingly on its own (see: Chrono Cross). Arguably one of the best games of last generation, I'm sick of hearing everyone bitch about it because of the tacked on Deus Ex title and plot setup.
Going back and playing it recently, it reminded me a lot of Mass Effect too. A lot of similar settings and situations and a very similar equipment management and upgrade system.

Agreed, my only REAL big complaint about Invisible War was that shared ammo thing and the removal of different ammunition types..
Yes, things were dumbed down a little..but the game was still awesome and good in its own right..

I loved Deus Ex for the PS2, it was a great game, and still is. The depth and storyline were definitely a bit ahead of it's time, and they said it couldn't be done on the PS2 processing-wise. I haven't played the PC version, but I don't think it was dumbed down that much, if at all.
