Nintendo: 80 percent of female console gamers prefer Wii

I research I did on a marketing project does not match this data...

Although the percentage is not this large, the Wii is the most preferred console for females under 18. However, it is largely NOT the most preferred console by females over 18 years old. Any the number of female gamers in volume does not differ that much from those under 18 to those over 18.

I think you guys are misinterpreting this, and no wonder given the headline (80% of female console players prefer Wii). On the slide (and in the original article) you can see that this is for primary players - these stats are only considering when the female is the primary player in the household.

My husband and I have both a Wii and a PS3, and I play the PS3 quite a bit more than the Wii lately. However, he plays the PS3 slightly more than I do, so I wouldn't be considered the primary user even though I am racking up plenty of hours.

All you can tell from these stats are exactly what they say: of females who are the primary console player in their home, most of them use the Wii the most.

It would be great to see a survey of all gamers, not just the females who are the primary player in their household (though I do think it's an interesting segment of the population - just inaccurate to extrapolate it to female gamers as a whole).

Do they want a metal? There less likely to buy as many games as males, so I dont see why Nintendo see's this as a winrar

I can imagine this would be true. Coming from a female perspective, it can get tiring playing games that have obvious testosterone injected into it. Theres a ton of that on the PS3/360, and the big games generally have some. The main characters are ALWAYS males. It takes away from the immersion of a game a bit, since I'm absolutely not a male, especially if the game is a FSP game.

Looking at this from the other side, my boyfriend felt mirrors edge was a lot less immersive because the character you play as is female.

The Wii on the other hand has lots of games that aren't testosterine injected.

Not to say I prefer the Wii. My PS3 gets all my love.

A little back-checking will do a world of good in a lot of cases. These are 80% of *primary* female console gamers, so it's not like these statistics are especially racking up from the ultra-casuals

I was playing Modern Warfare 2 the other night and there was actually a girl online. I wouldn't say she was screaming for attention but she used a girls name and a headset. She sounded young and vulnerable, not to mention sucked at the game (1 kill, 10-15 deaths) so I dunno why the fvck she was playing...
