Aside from trotting out a handful of European game writers who all tell the same "This game is SO awesome" story, we're treated to a smattering of gameplay snippets from all three sides of the equation. We're only left wondering one thing after watching them – if you can play as a predator against eight colonial marines, who would ever choose the marines side?

Looks awesome. I have enjoyed the past AVP games and it seems like a pretty reliable and easy formula to develop around, can't wait to stalk some people in heat vision hehe

Wow, that looks great. I like that idea of placing one predator against 7 marines. I hope it ends up as good as it looks and could be! Unlike like those fucking abhorrent movies put out by FOX (of course)... morons.

I usually agree with you, Wayne, but I can't on this one.
When I first saw Alien 3, I wasn't a big fan. But looking back on it and watching it now, I actually really like it. It got stomped on by a lot of people, but go back and check it out - you might actually change your mind about it.
There are 2 awesome things about Predator 2:
1 - The ship at the end with all of the Predators and the Alien skull
2 - Gary Busey
I'm not going to say that it was an awesome movie or anything, but I like it and can still get some good entertainment out of it.
As for the AvP movies - they suck. I don't know when/if/why Cameron said they were better, but they aren't. The chick holding an alien head as a shield and teaming up with a Predator who makes hand gestures to her about a bomb... ugh. I think most people just don't like to even mention the other film.

moslty I enjoyed them because as an action figure collector they provided many wonderful toys, particularly a 14 inch predalien! I enjoyed them honestly, i always got the feeling people thought they sucked because of nostalgia goggles on the originals, but i liked them, particularly the 2nd AVP, because it was predators fighting god damn aliens. Also i always do what you suggest when i dont like a movie, i go back after a week of mulling it over and in this case, i still hated it. Nothing can make up for killing Hicks, newt and bishop in 10 minutes. And finally, yeah you got me with the Busey

Holy crap, Uncle Jessie... remember in AvP2 when the Predator kept trying to dispose of the bodies with that liquid? How pointless was that?! In the end the entire town gets nuked any f-ing way. Oh by the way, I know its a spoiler, the movie sucks so bad it should even matter.

James Cameron never said he liked AvP-R, only AvP. I agree with that as AvP was enjoyable, though had many many problems most of the fans had a hard time overlooking. However, the quote where he said they've ruined the Alien franchise is definitely accurate.

Actually to me Alien cubed was the worst of the batch...it seemed to be phoned in...and Predator 2 had it's moments but was just a money grab for the people who loved the first.
I'm somewhat torn about AvP...I genuinely liked them both...not as much as I did Aliens (by far my favorite across the franchises)...but I definitely liked them. I think a lot of their potential was cut off by shooting for the PG-13 rating...but they were still good movies.

I'm a huge fan of the Alien and Predator series seperately (never seen any of the AVP movies...) and I must say that this game looks pretty decent. I sure hope it is; nothing would be cooler than to stealth around the maps as a Predator taking out people without them ever knowing I was there.

I'm a big fan of the version released on PC back in 2000. The first mission you're a marine on a base where the aliens have breached containment (isn't that how it always starts). They captured the mood of the movies perfectly...the constant click of your motion detector (and it being way too sensitive it would beep when you throw a flare), dark shadows that could perfectly hide a xenomorph, pulsing red lights with sirens.
Hell the aliens don't even show up until you're halfway through the level but it takes forever because you're expecting them to jump out at any moment. Once they show up the game turns from a horror game to action quickly (just like the movies).
The predator missions are different because you start off feeling invincible because you're tasked with infiltrating the marines' base to kill the xenomorphs. So first you're facing off against relaxed patrols that are easy to pick off. By the time you're in the base both the marines and the aliens become formidable threats (especially since you're equipped for stealth and not firepower).
The xenomorph campaign is disorienting. You HAVE to use the ceilings and walls and your speed to your advantage because if you get in the sights of your foes, you're toast (sometimes quite literally).
As the article says, the campaign's primary purpose is to serve as training for multiplayer. When you get the three species into some intense online action...sparks will fly. If you have a chance, try to find the original 2 while waiting for the new entry to come out. You won't be disappointed.

Agreed on everything. AvP 1 and 2 were incredibly atmospheric. As a Marine, you felt well equipped but horribly vulnerable. As a Predator you felt powerful, but had to be calculating. As an Alien, you felt like you were going to throw up, but YOU ATE PEOPLES' BRAINS.

Especially the first AvP. They were way too fast. I remember LAN-ing with friends, and the aliens would just whiz by the humans. Once you were used to the wallwalking, a single alien could take out a dozen marines one at a time just by doing laps from floor to ceiling, picking one off at a time without having to slow down, and all the humans would see is a black and blue blur.

now i know alien vs pred on the pc was f-ing epic; however i played the second one.
which was said to be the better of the two since they kinda perfected the classes in multiplayer.
i was my netgun back and spear gun.
infact just bring back the classes for each race. scouts, hunters, runners ect ect

I like a bit of immersion and role-playing so I'd choose the marines any day - they've got all the personality and awesome dialogue, whereas all the predator ever did was kill people and make weird dolphin-gone-wrong clicking noises.

I hope team deathmatch is something like left 4 dead.
Aliens have a pathetic health meter but they respawn while Marines are stupidly strong but the don't respawn.The objective is to reach a checkpoint on time.

Saw this at Eurogamer..terrible framerate at the time.. it was fine if it was just 1 person & the enviroment, but as soon as another character turned.. dropped to less than 10 frames.. I think it was the PS3 version, looks fine in that video there..
I'll be interested if they get the AI right for the campaign(s), no shooting what you can't see

I am not going to lie that game is definitely on my radar now. Poor Bill paxton he was killed by an Alien and a Predator both in the sequels. I wonder if this game will have co-op because if you are a space marine or a alien you have to have other people.

I will definitely get this game when it comes out, BUT wouldn't you be at a huge disadvantage if you choose marine in pvp?
