Section 8 gets new maps on PC only
TimeGate has announced an expansion of its multiplayer-focused shooter, Section 8, with the "Seek and Destroy Map Pack," which adds three new maps and 10 new achievements for 560
($7). Though the game is available on Xbox 360 as well, the company is only making mention of PC availability for the content at the moment.
The industry has become so skewed towards a console focus as of late, it's kind of nice to see PC players getting some exclusive love. Now, let's all be real quiet and see if we can detect the exact moment their heads explode when they hear they have to pay for it.

I thought this game was called Section 8, should the DLC be free?
RKN (Steam ID: nerdydesi) @ Nov 27th 2009 2:57PM
Probably a timed exclusive for PC, but even that is surprising these days in a vastly console-centric gaming world.

I think it's funny that they're trying to sell maps on a platform that never pays for maps (unless there's a lot of them, ie. expansion pack) for a game that very few people will probably buy.
Guys, if you want us to go from your game not registering at all to being slightly less disinterested than before, you'd send the maps out for free. As it is, your action just makes you look clueless or desperate.

I don't really mind myself as a PC gaming having to pay for DLC, but also getting a free map editor or toolset for community made content is nice too, like with Dragon Age.
At least GFWL is nice in the fact that PC games have the chance to get DLC just like the 360 versions, so why no DLC for Resident Evil 5 Capcom?
Tiptup300 @ Nov 27th 2009 3:07PM
I think the PC elitists just need to realize that games cost a whole lot more then they used to. Paying for DLC should be the norm, if a company decides to give it out free, then awesome for that company and all the game players that like that company, but they shouldn't go around complaining when other companies don't follow.

Games cost a whole lot more than they used to?
Is that why aside from Modern Warfare 2, all the other multiplatform games on PC are $10 less than their console counterparts?
Tiptup300 @ Nov 27th 2009 3:25PM
I meant to publishers.

Inflation is a bitch.

New PS1, PS2, Gamecube and Xbox games were $50, 360/PS3 games are now $60. N64 games were $60 due to the higher cost of making cartridges.
PC games have been $50 since the PS1 days. Even if the cost of making games has gone up, why are recent multiplatform games on the PC $50 and consoles $60? Licensing fees for the console makers?
I don't mind DLC, as long as the game isn't incomplete and the DLC is sold to complete the game and nickel and dime us.
GreyFox @ Nov 27th 2009 4:26PM
I don't think anyone is being elitist when they say they want free content for their PC games. It's a great model and Steam enables developers to offer both free and paid DLC bypassing the garbage that is GFWL.
RKN (Steam ID: nerdydesi) @ Nov 27th 2009 4:41PM
Greyfox, does the DLC purchased for a game on Steam only work if the game itself is purchased on Steam or will it also work on retail copies and those downloaded from other digital distribution sites?
EGOvoruhk @ Nov 27th 2009 4:58PM
So because Valve gives me free DLC for just about everyone of their games, and I think other companies should do it as well, I'm an elitist?
That Guy @ Nov 27th 2009 10:09PM
I always find the usage of the term 'elitist' amusing, if not complimentary.
So we have higher standards than you? Why exactly is that a problem?
If everyone was 'elitist', the world wouldn't have nearly as many problems today as it does.
Tiptup300 @ Nov 28th 2009 12:33AM
No, you do not have "higher" standards. They are just different standards and you think that they are "higher." And for the third time, I'm talking saying how much the game costs to the people buying the games. I mean how much it costs to actually create the game and it's content.
Bobs @ Nov 27th 2009 4:02PM
Its probably because the game sold maybe 15 copies on the 360 ...
Trevor @ Nov 27th 2009 5:43PM
Hey! I bought one of those 15 copies! :P
All joking aside, this actually is a good multiplayer game, and I hope they release this as DLC for the Xbox.
Dreaded Fear @ Nov 28th 2009 1:00AM
It came out at the wrong time. Had this game come out in the dog days of the summer, it may have done much better.
boomsilent @ Nov 28th 2009 6:32PM
i for one dotn understand how people feel comfy paying upwards of 10 buck for only three maps, when there has always been a community that created maps for free. just disgusting. thats why i dont play halo anymore, as u need all the map packs to not be excluded from entire playlists.
the days of unreal and quake were great days indeed. they have taken away the only real advangate of pc gaming (not technically speaking, but as a whole). To think pc gamers will start paying for less conent that others could have made for free is an incredible miscalculation.
