Master Arica Harbor with these Bad Company 2 beta tips
If you find yourself coming up short in your quest for victory in the PS3-exclusive multiplayer beta for Bad Company 2, the development team at DICE has a few pointers to help reduce the gap between your win and loss statistics. Bad Company 2 level designer Inge Jøran "Pirelli" Holberg posted a laundry list of tips for attackers and defenders for the beta's Arica Harbor map.
With the map's design in mind, Holberg's tips feature a slew of ideas on how you can destroy specific areas of the map to redirect adversary foot traffic -- right into the sights of your favorite firearm. Our tips? Keep shooting people on the other team and you're bound to win eventually. We're professionals here, folks.

Here's a tip...
LEARN TO FREAKING PLAY.
I'm tired playing with a team that doesn't understand the concept of arming and disarming the bomb...
Discotheque @ Nov 29th 2009 9:38PM
LOL I'm tired of playing with a team that thinks the game is Team Deathmatch and just proceeds to camping/sniping.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 29th 2009 9:52PM
That happens in every shooter, specially MW2.
Yeah ok xxxsnip3rxxxdouchebagxxx, you went 42-10 in a Domination round...but we fucking lost cause you wouldn't defend/capture any bases.
Really Long Witty Name [Stuff Nobody Really Cares About] @ Nov 29th 2009 10:04PM
As a sniper, call in a mortar strike or 2 on any buildings that house the crates. This should bring down the whole building. Also, a sniper with the extra C-4 perks can easily blow up a crate with 5 C4's.
Sort of flawed IMO, I've done this many times for an easy win. Throw motion sensors, sneak around and plant a bunch of charges - win. There's way too many people sniping in this game though, pisses me off when I spawn behind one of my squadmates only to find they're a mile away from the next enemy base.
Classes need rebalancing, Engineers are gods, Assault is okay, and the medic class is weak as hell. If it wasn't for the fun revive paddles i wouldn't even play the class.
oh and FIX THE DAMN GAMMA!
ALBGunner04 @ Nov 29th 2009 11:49PM
I was once in a team where we were defending. Literally everyone on my team was a Sniper, and i was an Engineer. You can't understand how badly we were losing, and how frustrated I was with my teammates. I eventually ended up quitting the game since I couldn't take wasting my precious time with idiots.
kentuckyfried @ Nov 30th 2009 2:50AM
^ lots of people don't like being the flag runners b/c of the high probability of taking a k/d hit. Or they just want the easy kills.
But yeah...when played right...domination is a blast.
Evildude @ Nov 30th 2009 7:57AM
That's what happens when kiddos get a hold of beta codes.
They don't care about the development of the game, they just wanna brag about being in the beta with they're low life friends.
Discotheque @ Nov 29th 2009 9:37PM
Those are actually some good tips. I'm liking the one with the "train tunnel".
Pantsparty @ Nov 29th 2009 9:41PM
Anyone know if they made the hit detection better?
The first BC had pretty shoddy hit detection.
xLordOblivionx @ Nov 29th 2009 10:01PM
I don't see anything wrong with it. It's fine for me.
gonintendo @ Nov 29th 2009 10:22PM
the damage it takes to kill someone is lower if thats what you mean.
phinnvr6 @ Nov 30th 2009 12:27AM
Hit detection is great so far in the PS3 beta, and guns seem a lot better too, people die a lot faster as well.
Shadowfax (PSN: u2fan4894) @ Nov 29th 2009 9:43PM
So far the beta's OK, it was really fun at first but its a little dry compared to the awesomeness of the first game...
CzAr @ Nov 29th 2009 9:48PM
That's what happens when you play 1 map too many times in a row.
Sly @ Nov 29th 2009 11:29PM
it was dry the first time i played the beta. there was too much running and camping. i would spawn, run for five minutes to the enemy base cause some douchebags took the tank and other vehicles out for a spin and then i get killed by a sniper once i get there. then i spawn 5 minutes away behind a camping teammate, and it starts all over again. after about 20 minutes of that, i quit the beta for good.
Eggy @ Nov 30th 2009 5:17AM
Try organising a decent squad dude. You should not play BF games on your own.
Shadowfax (PSN: u2fan4894) @ Nov 29th 2009 9:45PM
LOL, at first I thought these were tips on how to get a girl (1st base, 2nd base, etc.)
target_render @ Nov 29th 2009 9:51PM
I agree with them about "keep shooting the other team". Works for me. But disarming and activating the bombs is pretty straightforward, so I can understand Czar's frustration.
James @ Nov 29th 2009 9:59PM
Here's another tip...buy a microphone, ha ha. Whats the use of VOIP if you don't use it. Oh and don't run off with tanks 1/2 loaded, its suicide.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Nov 29th 2009 10:01PM
Not including a headset in the system hurts the percentage of people who talk on PSN.
Though if that means fewer screaming 12 year olds, it's worth it.
mahouneko @ Nov 30th 2009 12:27AM
@Bradwart:
It [the PS3] connects with any Bluetooth headsets though. But you already know this and yes, the silence of being able to concentrate on the friggin' game is pretty golden.
Space @ Nov 30th 2009 11:22AM
but the only people who already owned a bluetooth headset are those d-bag "business" people who talk real loud in restaurants.
everybody should go out and buy a usb headset...they're less noisy
Victor @ Nov 29th 2009 10:00PM
Is that a screenshot or a real picture? I really can't tell :T
gonintendo @ Nov 29th 2009 10:49PM
it's a shame that there is no anti aliasing in the game though. Just imagine that pi with jaggies on all of the edges. They obviously apply AA to these shots (probably pc version)
superklye @ Nov 29th 2009 10:56PM
A glorious screen shot of in-game play. The graphics are so good it brings a tear to my eyes.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Nov 29th 2009 11:00PM
The RSX still has issues with full AA, I believe. The 360 does do a good job of it, though.
Filthy Assistant @ Nov 29th 2009 11:03PM
I know Arkham Asylum was much jaggier on PS3 than Xbox.
Really I had no idea that was a screenshot though, it looks really nice, much better than I expected. Despite the beta being out, I still haven't heard much about the game, though, and I think that's kinda strange.
Sly @ Nov 29th 2009 11:30PM
@go
the pic is a lot smaller than what would be shown on your average HDTV so you don't really notice jaggies. it's not that they doctored them.
Jesus (PSN: Luttdawg) @ Nov 29th 2009 10:04PM
Hey everyone, Look! It's that game that is going to be better than MW2 in every conceivable way!
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Nov 29th 2009 10:10PM
No, it won't be able to beat MW2 in 'suckage' factor.
Or 'Developer's Arrogance' factor.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 29th 2009 10:11PM
haha you're a funny guy!
Ashkental @ Nov 29th 2009 10:17PM
I don't wanna play modern warfare... it's multiplayer is dull, short, and mindless...
I like more team oriented games that are not MAGish (so... massive! so... confusing!) and have more meaningfull objectives..
Dreaded Fear @ Nov 29th 2009 10:39PM
So I guess you guys don't play Search and Destroy? Darth the Halo fanboy comes out again. How much has changed from Bad Company 1? Not much. Played the beta, not exactly better in any way. If you like vehicles it is the only thing I can see people enjoying more.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Nov 29th 2009 10:41PM
How much has changed from MW to MW2?
Very little.
Dreaded Fear @ Nov 29th 2009 10:44PM
Spec ops, New campaign, Kill streak rewards, new gametypes, new weapons, new perks, secondary weapons being redone, new maps, etc...
I didn't say MW2 was any different. But it sure is a much bigger change than Bad Company 2, and Halo.
tmacairjordan87 @ Nov 29th 2009 10:57PM
"Spec ops, New campaign, Kill streak rewards"
That right there was enough for me to buy the game. I can't describe how excited I get when I get a care package kill streak, and it turns out to be an AC130 or a chopper gunner.
Filthy Assistant @ Nov 29th 2009 10:59PM
I liked Bad Company 1 and I'll like BC2 but you're wrong, sorry. : (
Dreaded Fear @ Nov 29th 2009 11:02PM
Wrong? I'm buying it as well. I didn't say anything about it being a bad game. I don't have an unhealthy, obsessive hatred over a game like certain people on this site.
Filthy Assistant @ Nov 29th 2009 11:04PM
Wasn't talking to you, Dreaded, I'm with you. I was saying hamburger-avatar is wrong.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Nov 29th 2009 11:05PM
Go play your point and click adventures.
BC2 will blow MW2 out of the water.
Jesus (PSN: Luttdawg) @ Nov 29th 2009 11:28PM
Some of you obviously didn't detect my sarcasm. Personally I don't think BC2 will actually be able to compete with COD4, let alone MW2. I've said it before, I'll say it again, some gamers just want to be alternative and not like the biggest franchises in the industry. The people trying to tell themselves that BC2 will be better than MW2 are some of the worst offenders.
Filthy Assistant @ Nov 29th 2009 11:31PM
Go play Dragon Age while being rammed in the asshole and posting on Joystiq about it, Bradwart.
But yeah Hamburger-Avatar, I'm with you on that. I think BC2 will be really good but I'm not sure it'll stand the test of time like MW2. I was playing MW1 for a long time but BC1, while good, didn't really hold my interest very long.
Sly @ Nov 29th 2009 11:32PM
the beta has me thinking it's not going to be any better. it's really like a watered down killzone 2 with vehicles and building blowing up added, and motion blur and fun taken out.
MrWeatherby @ Nov 29th 2009 11:43PM
So far I'm enjoying MW2 quite a bit. It not having changed a whole lot from the pervious title isn't really a bad thing to me, and frankly I'll never tire of "Joint Ops" appearing on my screen after I die.
Bad Company looks really great, but topping MW2 is going to be hard in my eyes.
Sly @ Nov 29th 2009 11:56PM
there are so many hilarious titles in the game. it's amazing how many memes or movie references or just plain funny titles there are. even some guns are references, like how the model 1887 akimbo is a reference to terminator 2...
AvA (ice~) @ Nov 30th 2009 2:03AM
can we STOP with the BC2 and MW2 wars? they're both excellent games with different strategies and takes on multiplayer. Saying one is better than the other is just opinion relevant to everyone's preferences, if you like runnin and gunnin, then go play MW2, if you like vehicles and strategic game modes, go play BC2 and stop complaining about the other sucking.
I can't stand this because I like both games yet when people bring this up I get so torn.
rohan @ Nov 29th 2009 10:15PM
man having this and mag beta really eats up a lot of my time, both games are really fun to play, quick question does any1 know when the BC2 beta will end?
Ashkental @ Nov 29th 2009 10:19PM
I hated mag...
It's so overloaded with stuff happening that you can't even tell apart things! It was so confusing to me that i stopped playing it because i couldn't stand dying from a shot from nowhere....
superklye @ Nov 29th 2009 10:58PM
I'm pretty sure the BC2 beta goes until 1/4. I thought I saw that date in the game somewhere or maybe on the site where I got my beta code.
Sly @ Nov 29th 2009 11:33PM
i think it goes into february. press triangle when you have the game selected in the XMB and go to information. it should have the expiration date there.
