Vogster's freeish-to-play MMO, CrimeCraft, has been effectively banned from Australia. The beleaguered publisher's online title won't make it to the country in its current form due to "drug use related to incentives or rewards." The same complaint was aimed at Fallout 3 last year.
Gamespot UK reports the Australian Classification Board's main objection was to the use of "boosts," the drugs used in the game. The board declared there was "insufficient delineation between the 'fictional drugs' available in game and real-world proscribed drugs." On the bright side, Vogster can thank Australia's lack of a mature classification for video games -- and Attorney General Michael Atkinson's opposition to an R18+ rating -- for getting the game some press.

People who think they know what's good for other people are the people who need to be banished.

Yeah they used the same reason for Fallout 3, but we still got it here so i hope they can make the dictatorship of the ratings board happy with some editing. But here's hoping Michael Atkinson has a heart attack and resigns his commission as the South Australian Attorney-General and we finally get out 18+ rating and anything can go into the games without people having a whine about protecting the kids from crap or in this case drugs.

Only problem being that Fallout3 was edited so we didn't get cool drug names.
An MMO is different, because we all have to have the same game, so either the whole world gets the sesame street version or they just leave us out the loop (I'll let you decide which one they will pick...)
While I love this country, I just wish someone would finally stand up and have a decent argument with Michael Atkinson, I couldn't do it without getting mad which would just make his case stronger!

I just wonder why the fuck the OFLC didn't bat an eye at Saints Row 1+2 in which drugs/alchohol heal you. Hell everything about those games is in bad taste.
Oh well, at least CrimeCraft sucks.

Geez, if this is considered too much for Australians, I feel bad about those Aussies looking forward to StarCraft II. Guess the AUS version will have to cut Stim-Packs - or, you know, those Firebats are real foul-mouthed and smoke a lot, so those should probably be cut too! Anything to protect the impressionable youth of a country where you can see tits and F-bombs on cable TV.

That's the stupid part about it, Drugs are fine, it's just when you use real names (Like morphine in Fallout 3 i think it was)
Our kids are apparently smart enough to get their hands on mature games but not smart enough to understand that a "Stim-pack" is just another name for some sort of speed...
