Modern Warfare 2, Mario, Assassin's Creed 2 still running the UK charts
Sorry, challengers! Modern Warfare 2, Assassin's Creed 2 and New Super Mario Bros. Wii have again landed the top three slots (respectively) on the UK charts, and it looks like they've settled in for a long winter's nap. MW2 is in its third week at the top, while Italian buddies Ezio and Mario are celebrating their second week, according to GfK.
We're not sure if anything will be able to unseat these three before the holidays but, if history is any indication, NSMBW might as well build a summer cottage in the top 10.

MW2 is running at the top longer than I expected. I was predicting a blowout after that first week of sales.
Yes, I'd bet NSMBW will be there probably until the end of the gen.
Jason Statham (Has a ps3 now) @ Nov 30th 2009 10:18AM
I think you're underestimating the appeal of a good multiplayer FPS.
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Nov 30th 2009 10:20AM
It's not that, I was saying it sold so well initially, that that had to steal some sales that had been planned for later. People couldn't wait.
Nathan-DTS [He is your father] @ Nov 30th 2009 10:30AM
I don't see the appeal of an FPS in which it takes three bullets to kill someone.
MrSpaceCowboy @ Nov 30th 2009 10:31AM
The way I see it, Mario wins. It only came out on one platform...
@Jason Statham:
It's not so 'good' on PC...
Darth Bradwart, The Dark Lord of the Sith [ATDF Co-Founder] @ Nov 30th 2009 10:32AM
Mario always wins.
Mr Khan @ Nov 30th 2009 10:38AM
Yeah, there are two lists they publish, one that has games listed by platforms (so that Modern Warfare 2 would make an appearance 2 or 3 times, depending on how well the PC version is still doing, but NSMBWii would be at the top of that chart, in all likelihood), and one that lists the games as singular entities, which is better reflective of publisher performance
Jason Statham (Has a ps3 now) @ Nov 30th 2009 11:28AM
@Nathan.
....
wut?
Alex @ Nov 30th 2009 12:55PM
I agree with Nathan. I'm not a fan of CoD. Sorry bout that.
I was also expecting to see MW at 3 or 4 because who else is buying it? All of the people who want it must already have it.
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Nov 30th 2009 1:19PM
Nope, I know quite a few people saving up to buy it, want it but haven't found the time to buy it yet, or haven't got a console, planning to get one for X-mas with MW2 at the top of their game wish list, so i wouldn't say its time has come and gone, that would be the same as saying Halo should only last a few days of extreme sales as everyone would have bought it who wanted it by then.
Samuel Vimes @ Nov 30th 2009 10:38AM
"I don't see the appeal of an FPS in which it takes three bullets to kill someone."
I hope that is a joke...
nofriendo @ Nov 30th 2009 10:40AM
Look Samuel, it takes more than tree bullets to kill Nathan-STD.
Kleptomaniac @ Nov 30th 2009 10:44AM
I think what he meant more was in Call of duty even if you shoot someone in the body they go down quit easily. I've seen people be shot in the leg and still die.
Nathan-DTS [He is your father] @ Nov 30th 2009 10:44AM
no-friend-o I see what you did there you crafty person you.
nofriendo @ Nov 30th 2009 10:57AM
Yeah I'm pretty stupid at times.
Samuel Vimes @ Nov 30th 2009 11:04AM
@Kleptomaniac
Well people do die from body and leg wounds.
Kleptomaniac @ Nov 30th 2009 11:11AM
Yeah but they don't go down like they would from a headshot. I guess it doesnt matter as long as you enjoy the gameplay
Nathan-DTS [He is your father] @ Nov 30th 2009 11:32AM
Sure it's realistic in the sense that people would die from those wounds but games aren't meant to be realistic, games are meant to be fun and challenging.
Samuel Vimes @ Nov 30th 2009 11:43AM
I understand what you mean, but realism does take it's effect. A game like Forza I consider to be very realistic and it is still fun and challenging. I mean really if CoD was realistic it would take even less shots than 3 to bring someone down. Just glad it isn't to the effect of halo's damage. I'd prefer 3 shots over unloading 3 clips into someone before they finally go down.
the_pop @ Nov 30th 2009 12:29PM
You would love Far Cry 2. It takes about 10 headshots to kill someone with no armor whatsoever.
yuj @ Nov 30th 2009 12:46PM
There is always hardcore mode where one bullet usually means death unless last stand is used. Also, people are still functional if hit in the arms or legs. Sure they'll die but they can still shoot right?
nofriendo @ Nov 30th 2009 10:38AM
It's like my Grampa always said-
It's hard to go up against a guy who can shoot fire balls from his hat.
Kdiggy @ Nov 30th 2009 10:45AM
I'm really surprised/saddened to see that DS port selling so well.
nofriendo @ Nov 30th 2009 10:54AM
I've noticed the word "Port" seems to roll off the tongue of people who don't know what they're talking about.
bimmy @ Nov 30th 2009 11:03AM
it's weird but I went from being all about MW2 online to being sick of it pretty quickly...either it's because i realized the game has nothing much to offer or i need to take a break
XBL: xGeneral DEATHx PSN: Deeth82 [Planeteer | Power of General Hostility and Angst] @ Nov 30th 2009 11:26AM
If you're ranked higher than level 50 in multiplayer during the first week, try taking a break. I recommend going outside. ;-)
Night Elve @ Nov 30th 2009 11:44AM
MW2 is a pretty good damn game I just beat it in Veteran. I will always remembered the "Loose Ends" chapter as the one that almost made me gave up my hopes to finish this game in this difficulty.
As I am not that into Online gaming I will just complete the Special Ops by myself or with a friend and that's it I will move to another game.
:)
Nathan-DTS [He is your father] @ Nov 30th 2009 11:51AM
If you barely managed to beat MW2 on Veteran then I don't recommend the other CoD games.
Night Elve @ Nov 30th 2009 1:20PM
Well man I already beat CoD 4 on Veteran. I haven't try WaW or CoD3 on Veteran though.
Katana Master @ Nov 30th 2009 1:39PM
@ Nathan
What the hell are you on about? "If you barley could complete it on veteran, i don't suggest any other cod's"
That means nothing.
Night Elve @ Nov 30th 2009 1:42PM
Yeap. Besides I never said I barely completed it. I just said the the Loose Ends chapter is pretty insane in Veteran ;)
Nathan-DTS [He is your father] @ Nov 30th 2009 3:36PM
Wait so you beat CoD 4 veteran but had some issues with MW2? That makes no sense whatsoever. MW2's Veteran is like recruit compared to the other CoD's
Night Elve @ Nov 30th 2009 4:35PM
Whatever you say Nathan-DTS [He is your father] I guess you are the all CoD mighty master.
Nathan-DTS [He is your father] @ Dec 1st 2009 9:53AM
At what point did I say that? I said that CoD 4 is much harder on veteran than MW2.
ryan_gliebe @ Nov 30th 2009 1:09PM
I would've got MW2, if I could have made it in time for the GameStop "trade in 2 get it for $20 deal" since I can't see spending $60 on the game. It looks good, but the most I'd spend on it, if CoD4 is anything to go by, is $30 bucks.
However, I did go with my next of kin, the Italians, since release day with NSMBW and ACII. Truly a pair of awesome titles.
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Nov 30th 2009 1:22PM
Well, I'm happy with my purchase, but I think for my multiplayer desires I'll wait for MAG, that way I'll have two amazing war games fulfilling different needs :D
xtremeholymuffin @ Nov 30th 2009 3:55PM
I dunno, MAG isn't looking all that great...
Did you play the Beta? I was pretty underwhelmed.
Katana Master @ Nov 30th 2009 1:33PM
I swear I am going to stab someone if AC2 doesn't get game of the year.
Night Elve @ Nov 30th 2009 1:39PM
I guess you will stab someone, because if there's justice in the video game world the "Game Of the Year" should be for Uncharted 2 :)
Katana Master @ Nov 30th 2009 2:18PM
Oh yeah and that also, I just finished AC2 and was blinded by it beauty.
My GOTY's: Assassins Creed 2 + Uncharted 2
Silly me.
Maverick Saturn (Igor) @ Nov 30th 2009 2:18PM
I was thinking the same, I loved AC2, but Uncharted 2 was just incredible.
Dreaded Fear @ Nov 30th 2009 2:50PM
Sorry, that title belongs to Uncharted 2.
Nathan-DTS [He is your father] @ Nov 30th 2009 3:44PM
Agreed, Uncharted 2 was amazing. Best game for me this generation.
BananaBoat @ Nov 30th 2009 6:11PM
I just finished ACII, and I completely agree with you. It is the most ambitious project in years, and it fixes just about every flaw that the original had, while bringing great additions to the table. Ubisoft might have over delivered with the game, because I'd have been just as happy with half as much content, and I think that really says something.
I liked Uncharted 2, but I'd still say that game of the year should go to ACII.
Dreaded Fear @ Nov 30th 2009 7:25PM
Funny thing is people were making up their minds on AC2 being the GOTY before it even came out. Especially on Joystiq, where they would constantly talk about how it would be GOTY, before it even came out. No bias there, nope.
fadeoutagain2784 @ Nov 30th 2009 3:10PM
I got both NSMBW and AC2 on Black Friday, both GREAT games... but I have to say - AC2 has completely blown me away... I didn't think it'd be possible to live up to the expectations, but it's even surpassed them (for me). I didn't even play the original AC for more than 3 or 4 hours due to the horrible pacing and monotonous missions, but I've probably put almost 15 hours into it in just 3 days (that's a lot for me). NSMBW is pretty much just what I thought it'd be, but SO much fun with friends and has incredible nostalgic value. It was a great holiday weekend for me.
Nathan-DTS [He is your father] @ Nov 30th 2009 3:45PM
NSMBW is fun and nostalgic but there's no challenge like there was with the original ones.
fadeoutagain2784 @ Nov 30th 2009 3:53PM
I disagree - I mean... if you go back to the original Mario games, they're not really challenging anymore aside from the fact that extra lives are harder to come by. There are some levels in NSMBW that are pretty tough... but you basically have unlimited tries to get thru them because of all the coins and 1-ups everywhere. All that really does is make the game less frustrating, not less difficult. And when I say this, I don't want to start an epic argument about frustration vs difficulty/challenge... it's just my opinion.
Monkey Fetish @ Nov 30th 2009 3:20PM
You start understanding why all the other big-name titles moved their launch dates to next year. MW2 is a unstoppable...
